Lindy, the Dog with Nine Lives, is the true story of a little brown dog from Rhodes whose 'rags to riches' tale will warm the hearts of dog lovers everywhere.
Della Galton (aka Della Parker) writes novels set in Dorset, featuring quirky characters and very often a dog or two. She's had more than 2000 short stories published and she's run out of fingers to count her books on.
She is a popular speaker at writing conventions and the agony aunt for Writers' Forum Magazine.
When she is not writing she enjoys walking her dogs around the beautiful Dorset countryside and beaches.
As a lover of animals and a humum to 3 dogs [my husband won't let me have 4!] I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I felt every emotion as I read about the frantic rescuing of the little canine mum from Rhodes and bringing her back to England. Then visiting her at every possible occasion whilst she was in quarantine for 6 months. She was a feisty little bitch who loved animals and humans alike, but her owners could never quite break her of the habit of foraging for food, reminiscent of the time she had to do as a stray, to be able to feed her 13 pups, and would often eat the prey that she had caught. She lived alongside the 2 then 3 other dogs that shared their lives with their humans. Little Lindy reminded me of my own choccy lab, who is 12 now, but has been through several operations, so I could quite easily relate to Lindy's owners and their fears. I would recommend this book to all animal especially dog lovers, but have a large 'man size' box of tissues with you.
This is a heart warming story of the rescue of Lindy, a stray wandering on a beach in Greece. A book that will make you smile and cry, sometimes at the same time! Beautifully written with just the right balance of sentimentality and humour, I thoroughly recommend this as an ideal gift for any animal lover.
Galton tells the story of dog in this non-fiction book. It details her relationships with all her dogs, but specifically with the dog Lindy and is somewhat interesting, although ultimately not that memorable.
This book is very touching. It shows the love of a dog rescuer for her new found friends. It made me want to go out and rescue a dog( and I'm a cat person).
In this very short book which can easily be read in one sitting, Della Galton recounts the story of how she rescued stray dog Lindy and her thirteen puppies from a beach on the Greek island of Rhodes. After getting them all to a nearby animal sanctuary, Della and her husband flew home. It was only a couple of weeks later that Della decided to bring Lindy to England - she was unlikely to be re-homed in Greece and was facing a death sentence.
Della Galton exudes warmth and compassion in her writing, and a little humour here and there. Her passion for animals and especially dogs shines through and I soon fell in love with Lindy and Della's other rescue dogs.
Lindy lived with Della and her family for eight years in all and this book is indeed a celebration of their time together. Lindy faced many hurdles over the years - hence the title of 'The Dog with Nine Lives'. After encounters with herds of cows, cancer and almost drowning amongst others she really did use up nine lives, and who knows how many more she'd used before she met Della?
A wonderful story, beautifully presented with some lovely colour photographs, this will appeal to any animal lover, not just dog lovers. It would make an ideal stocking-filler present.
More a short story than a book as I read it in about an hour. However it was a lovely short read, peopled with the authors lovable dogs, especially the eponymous Lindy.
Spotted running wild on a beach on Rhodes, cadging food from sunbathers Lindy barely registers on Dellas animal radar and the author is determined not to get involved. Yet when Lindy is found to be raising a litter of 13 pups in a rough cave by the beach, its Della who contacts a local animal charity and takes on the task of rescuing Della and her brood and taking them to the safety of an animal welfare kennels.
Job done she returns home with the satisfaction of having helped a lovely animal and a niggle in the back of her mind wondering how the dog is getting along. So she emails a quick message to check all's well .... of course she has far too much sense to try and bring Lindy home to the UK, knowing how expensive and fraught with frustration such an adoption would be ...
Easily read in a couple of hours, this heart-warming little story with photos, of Lindy's rescue and eventual transportation to the UK can't fail to amuse the reader. Although the chronicling of her '9 lives' is there, it does not read as a list. Be prepared and have some tissues handy as it brought tears to my eyes once or twice.
A heartfelt short story about a dog and all the trials and tribulations that follow her. I love the fact that this author went to great lengths to rescue Lindy and continues to assist animals in need by fostering. A great story with a sad but inevitable ending.
This is a short book about Lindy, a rescue dog, and the family who took her in with three other rescue dogs. She had lots of adventures and had fun with all animals and people. A fun read.
Loved the story of this rescue dog, Lindy. I believe rescue dogs are very special as are those who tirelessly work to rescue them. Angels saving angels! Adopters are special too and this story is of one lucky dog, Lindy, and the family who moved mountains to rescue her from Greece to England. Although very short, it is filled with love.
