"To Tempt a Gentleman" by Kate Huntington 2014
Cousin Sophia asked Catriona (Grant) to help Sir Michael Stewart come about. His Wife (Cousin Sophia's niece) had died, and Sir Michael had really not got over her death.
Cousin Sophia even went as far as bequeathing Catriona to his care.
Can Catriona bring a little light and happiness to his home? Does he want her to? The only way to get rid of her, is to marry her off, but can he live without the sunshine she has brought into his life?

Drivel. There was some humor, hence the two stars but this was just fluff. Catherine and Michael were not developed characters and every time I felt like Huntington was going to do something with their characters or the plat it was rushed ahead and I was left with nothing.

This felt like two different books - in the beginning, Catriona is a poor relation and companion to a dying old woman, who wills her to look after Sir Michael Stewart, a widower and relation of the dying old lady. Catriona moves into his house as his housekeeper and starts turning his sedate world upside down. His daughters, hearing that a young woman has moved into the house, rush home to protect their father from her supposed scheming, and plot to marry him off to another local lady.

I was enjoying that story, when all of a sudden it was revealed that Catriona's shocking secret is not really shocking at all and she is in fact the daughter of an earl. Suddenly, Sir Michael's daughters are trying to turn her up sweet and her old beau appears on the scene to court her, and she reveals that she has been in love with Sir Michael all along, and that she knows he returns her feelings.

And then the book continues on for another hundred-odd pages, with a lot of shenanigans that felt completely unnecessary and unrelated to the first part of the book except in the most tenuous ways.

My feelings about this can mostly be summed up as "meh."
