An enigmatic source of fascination, dragons are the stuff of fantasy - or are they? Dragon legends can be found around the world - similar, compelling, and difficult to simply dismiss as baseless tales or mere lore.

This was a wonderful book and I loved the illustrations and the presentation of each country and their folk lore of dragons.

I also like how they tie together the obvious, yet willfully ignored by many, observation that dragons resemble dinosaurs and originally the two words were used interchangeably.

Anyone who is curious about dragons and dinosaurs and their authentic place in history, based on historical and legendary accounts from every continent will enjoy this book.

Dragons! From a Biblical and historical view!
What more could I ask for?
I have been facinated by dragons and dinosaurs, (same thing) since I was little.
I am thrilled to have found this amazing book. (Even better? It's got pockets and fold out pages with more information and stories! Almost like a pop-up book!)
It's lots of fun, and filled with accounts of the many myths, eye-witness accounts, and lore about these amazing creatures that God created.
Do you like dragons and the many legends surrounding them? Go read this book. It's really cool.

A rather fun read from a cryptozoology point of view about potential monsters/dinosaurs living in our times...the famous Loch Ness is here of course...Ogopogo from Canada....St. George and the Dragon....Beowulf......Biblical allusions....nicely illustrated but far to short....

Dragons: Legends and Lore of Dinosaurs by Master Books

This book explores the connection between historical accounts and legends surrounding dragons. The premise of the book is to argue that because of the pervasiveness of draconic legends throughout the world’s cultures that there had to be some sort of physical creature or creatures, which were seen by real people who had contact with them. The best solution once we strip away the supernatural elements around dragons is dinosaurs. The book presents the evidence for a creationist worldview and logically makes the connection of how the evidence can fit together to make a case that dinosaurs and humans could have coexisted together.
The book is intended to be read by an elementary audience and up. I would say the because of the advanced vocabulary used throughout the book that it would be hard for the target range of elementary school students (6+ years), unless read with an adult. Independently this book would be best read and understood at a junior high level.
The pictures are engaging and beautifully done enhancing the intrigue and mystery of the legends and lore explored within. The book is fast paced and exciting to read. The only draw back for me in this book was the countless website URLs that are quoted at the end of various legends and other sources. I felt that this was a drawback to the overall readability of the book.
Overall I would recommend this book to be added to any public or school library. It provides an easy readability, minus the vocabulary, that is presented in attractive and inspiring format. On a scale of 1 – 5 stars, I would rate it a solid 4 stars.

The presentation of this book will enthrall you, and the content is excellent. The basic premise is that cultures all over the world report dragons in their midst, right alongside other animals, so why wouldn't we believe the dragons are real too? Sure, some of the stories are of legend proportions, but why wouldn't accept those items common to many/ most of the stories?

The facts presented are interesting and varied, with the core hypothesis contained on full page unfold of a dinosaur. In our home, this a is 'with adults only' book, and parents should be aware there are removable papers and fold outs that can be easily damaged. The artwork has a medieval flare that corresponds to our concept of dragons.

I am thrilled with the quality of presentation, both in content and design. A homeschool treasure. Highly recommended work from MasterBooks.

Quite liked the book. the art is great! lots of fun maps, puzzles and pop ups. lots of things to explore. linking the idea of dragons to the discovery of dinosaurs. the only thing I couldn't quite get my head around was the Christian prospective of it. Now I am a Christian so that in itself didn't phase me. (I bought the thing at a Christian book shop) What I'm not is a creationist, the explination for Noah's ark didn't work for me. But on the whole it explains St George and the Dragon. Laviathans and Behemoths. (who doesn't love those right!) and of course 'Nessie' Its a fun book

Picked this up on a visit to the Creation Museum of the Ozarks in Branson, MO. (A great place to visit, by the way, if you're ever in the area!) I've always been interested in the dragon/dinosaur link, and this is a nice, easy-to-read introduction to the subject. It's primarily written for kids, of course, but I wouldn't recommend it for young children, who would probably find the illustrations a bit disturbing.

I really, really wanted to love this book. I have a child who has fallen in love with dragons (has been exposed to books about them which I don’t like at all… was hopeful at stumbling on something wholesome about these creatures she loves!)

The book is beautiful and well-designed. Lots of clever pull outs etc. So much thought and love went into this book. And I really want to love it myself! But… I just can’t. It makes no sense that dragons are real because they are really dinosaurs because the Bible is true in the literal sense. Dragons we are told are real because so many accounts throughout history around the world means, logically, it must be true that they existed. But if so where did they go? When did they go (die off)? Except for the water creatures like Nessie which it is purported are still out there for us to re-discover. There is even an account from Tomstone of two men who claimed to find a live flying pterosaur like creature. But the article ends with them saying they were returning with witnesses to its corpse the next day (they claimed to kill it, but of course there are no further accounts by any other such witnesses)

I couldn’t help but think about how so much is taken as fact due to the fact that people said so, but that faith traditions are rejected (despite our being taught in the Bible: “stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter” (2 Thess. 2:15).).

I do wish St. Martha of Bethany was among the saints discussed on the saints page (I do like that authors are open-minded in regards to talking about saints and it is interesting to me that they reference the books of the Bible that are rejected by Protestants (the Apocrypha)). That is the Martha of the Martha and Mary sisters in the Gospel… my child chose her as her patron saint upon learning that she fought and killed a dragon… who knew Martha went abroad preaching and converting multitudes after the death of Jesus and killed a giant beast?!)

I just can’t see how logically every creature could be fit on a 3 stories 500 foot boat, as we told at the book’s conclusion. Not all animals live in one part of the world where Noah was, for another example. The examples of dinosaur eggs are given, etc, but even so are all dinosaurs species/kinds to have lived within walking or flying distance of Noah’s Ark? Could Noah really have collected the millions (or is it billions?) of species of insects all over the earth, etc. The authors appeal to logic to believe in dragons, but what about logic that suggests that some parts of the Bible may not have been meant or requires to be believed as literal in every sense? Ie that the flood covered the entire surface of the earth, or that every day in Creation was 24 hours? (It is fascinating and telling to me that the observational evidence of evolution closely mirrors the creation story. Also interesting to note that in a similar vein the authors point to different stories of a great flood in various cultures as supporting the truth of the Bible’s flood account in spite of their differences!).

Fascinating book with interesting illustrations. I liked most of the information and would like to research this topic more. The only thing was maybe the few references to Wikipedia, which to me isn't the most trusted source, so I need to look into the truth of some of what was mentioned. Between the stories, articles, and different things, you can believe that dragons/dinosaurs were around when humans were alive. I would recommend it as a resource, just to explore the topic further. It has interactive things for kids, like envelopes with various legends, and things to open and pull from.

Very beautiful and creatively laid out, with all kinds of nooks and crannies that will make children feel like explorers making these discoveries for the first time themselves. I wish it was a somewhat deeper dive in some areas, and I wish they wouldn't use the KJV outside of specific KJV examples (they use modern translations of other texts--why not the Bible?). But overall, a very fun book for any kid with an interest in dragons and a desire to know the truth behind the myths. And there's interesting discoveries for adults to make, too!

This book was interesting, to say the least. I was expecting more of the myths, legends and lore aspect of dragons and dinosaurs. I didnt realize this book was actually the take of these creatures from the Christian perspective. I judged this book by the cover instead of reading the synopsis and looking at the publisher. But I did learn that there are dragons in the Bible. #Weird

Good information, with logical reasoning for equating stories about dragons with actual interactions between humans and dinosaurs. Fantastic illustrations; folded up stories inside small envelopes; miniature books within the book and more make this a terrific book for middle grade students through adults.

Recommended to Margaret by: Veritas Press

Read from January 25 to November 15, 2012 — I own a copy

My first glimpse of Dragons: Legends & Lore of Dinosaurs was from the Master Books catalog/website. Second was on a recommendation of finding it in the Veritas Press catalog. Third was in conversation with my sister when she said that this would be an excellent book for her oldest son. I just knew even before I got my hands on it that this was going to be something full of fascination. I am not disappointed and not surprised to find something so great from Master Books and New Leaf Publishing Group.

This is a special book and not one to leave out with the little ones. There are fragile bits with envelopes that open and present the letters they are hiding as well as lift-the-flap type doors and booklets. Your eyes will be treated to a feast with all the different shapes and textures on each page in addition to the fabulous illustrations of dragons, dinosaurs and similar lore. While this book is a juvenile non-fiction, I would aim at around six or older with a child that can know how important it is to be very careful with all the bits within to make it last for years to come. (My three-year-old can enjoy it, but I wouldn't leave her alone with it. She might get carried away and misplace a letter or internal document that is half the fun.)

Content ranges throughout the book with many different topics. The size of the book makes looking maps or large pictures very attractive. From geography to archaeology the details are awesome. This book could be used to spark an interest or as a whole resource if you're not delving terribly deep into the history of dragons and dinosaurs. From full page double opening spreads to illustrations and artifact photography there is plenty to please your vision.

A dragon timeline provides very neat information that would make designing a spring-board for jumping into fictional accounts easy. Learning about translations of accounts and even a page with dragon names in various languages is fun for the mind. I love now at my age, but I know my young-self would have loved this! Ending the book with a questions and answers page on dragons in the Bible is great and a wonderful way to leave it off.

I have yet to see anything that quite compares to this book. It is really incredible and you have to see it in person to really get the full effect.

Do you have children who enjoy dinosaurs and may have even asked if dragons were real? What if dragons were dinosaurs or vice versa? Well look no further than this brilliantly and beautifully illustrated book called Dragons: Legends and Lore of Dinosaurs published by New Leaf Publishing. My children couldn’t wait to get their hands on this book as soon as it arrived – with their fascination of all things dinosaurs and knowing that there are Biblical accounts of dragons this book was a great fit for our family.

The book seeks to sort out the history that we know as dragons and from a Christian and Biblical viewpoint. Every continent has their own form of dragon legend and lore whether they are epic dragons in Europe or water dragons in Australia, we all have them. With fold outs and secret hiding places in the book it takes a hands-on approach to learning about these mythical creatures.

There are documented sightings of dragon-like animals, and not just in the Bible either. A mini-book inside gives eyewitness accounts and encounters in which you’ll read about John of Damascus, Marco Polo, Athanasius Kircher and more. An included ”dragon timeline” shows the datings of dragons and their sightings like Job’s writings of Behemoth, Leviathan between 2000 and 1800 B.C.

The books is laid out in the following manner:

A Tangles and Twisted History/Legends and Lore
Myth or Legend (continental dragons)
Legends from around the globe (envelopes filled with illustrations and text about dragons from Babylon, Greece and other places)
Flying Serpents
Two page fold out spread on Dragons and Dinosaurs
Sin and Satan/Translating the Words/Biblical Commentaries with Dragons
Saints and Slayers
Dragons of the seas and sky
Dragons in the Bible, Q&A
There is a lot of information in this book but it provides so much fun for both the young child and the older one as well as adults, even my husband was intrigued by this book. A wonderful source for information both non-fictional and fantastical! A must add to your book collection and if you’re a homeschooler like me, this could lead to one awesome unit study!

**I was provided a copy of this book from New Leaf Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion, no other compensation was given.

DRAGONS Legends and Lore of Dinosaurs is an interactive book with beautiful, colorful multi-page layouts, neat lift-up-flaps, and informational envelopes that inform the reader of the history of dragon lore and legends. This includes proof of dragon existence from real-life witness accounts and scriptural references.
Many recognized men of ancient times from Roman Philosopher and Statesman, Marcus Cicero (45 BC) to 17th Century Jesuit, Athansius Kircher, have give written accounts of these creatures as well. Ancient artists have recorded similar creatures in picture form on ancient artifacts and petroglyphs.
This is a wonderful.from.a.christians.presective book of the accounting of dragons, dinosaurs and like creatures. This is not for the evolution minded reader for these accounts are taken from a creationists point-of-view and from the biblical standard.
WOW! What a book! We discovered that the original biblical Hebrew text included the word "tannin" (land or seas monsters or serpents); in Greek, "drakon" was used.
The comparisons made from legend to lore and myth or legend give the reader an accurate account of God's creation.
My ten year old son loved the page entitled "Legends from around the Globe." Miniature envelopes with note sized paper detail the country and then informs the reader of what happened with dragons in said country. My ten year old was fascinated with Babylon which then told of 'Daniel and the Dragon.' This is a legend but gave new meaning to Daniel In the Lion's Den.
I wish there were words to describe how absolutely terrific this book is made! Our whole family is enthralled with the pictures, as well as, the writings.
This is one of those rare books that any christian school or homeschool teacher should own because children (and maybe adults) are highly interested in this subject. So, why not read it from the biblical point of view!

This book combines all sorts of facts from history with many legends about dragons with verses from the Bible that indicate the existence of dragons at one time (many of those verses are the same ones I used in my post, which you can read here).

However, all that is not why I love this book. I love this book because it is so cleverly constructed. With text at an elementary or jr. high reading level it clearly explains that dragons and dinosaurs may have been one and the same type of creature, making dinosaurs seem even more intriguing than before. It boasts amazing illustrations that even a very young child will be fascinated by. Beyond that, this book has something fun and "hands-on" to do on almost every page.

Page two boasts a page covered in six little envelopes, each with the name of a different country or realm on it (Babylon, Greece, China, America, United Kingdom, and South America). Inside each envelope is a folded piece of nice, glossy paper. Unfold this paper and you can read about a dragon legend that exists (or existed) in that part of the world.

Turn the page and you get to unfold the page and look behind the flap at some pictures of dragons depicted in ancient art. On the other page you can open a small book-within-a-book and read "Eyewitness Accounts and Encounters" - humorously labelled "Open with Caution."

This trend of opening things, lifting flaps, and unfolding pages continues throughout this short, 22-page book.

The true test? My 2.5 year old daughter loves this book. And although I don't let her play with it unsupervised, it is interesting enough that I love reading it to her. (Even if I just read her a paraphrased version, or narrate the pictures for her).

Many thanks to New Leaf Publishing Group for providing this book for review. They did not ask for a positive review, just an honest one. Many thanks to them for their patience as well, as this review should have been up months ago.

Legends of dragons have always fascinated me. As a kid, I read dozens of books about dragons, some fictional, others reportedly true. And I loved every word.

My passion for early earth history, as recorded in Genesis, has lead me to many stories and reports of man encountering these incredible creatures. This makes sense from a young earth point of view, because God created most of the dinosaurs on Day Six, along with the rest of the land animals. Of course, aquatic dinosaurs would have been created on Day Five...

But the word “dinosaur” wasn’t coined until 1841 by Sir Richard Owen. What were these creatures called before the word dinosaur was invented?

Dragons.

Master Books has put together an incredible summary of dragons in many different cultures around the world, called Dragons: Legends and Lore of Dinosaurs. Piecing together eyewitness accounts and multi-cultural stories, along with many other evidences, they’ve created an extremely interesting account.

Dragons are found in dozens of cultures around the world. They are mentioned in many ancient texts, including more than two dozen references in the Bible alone.

Along with this evidence, there are many archaeological finds that have dragons depicted on them.

How did so many diverse societies develop such similar creatures. Mythology isn’t enough of an answer. There had to be something more. That these people saw such creatures is the only possible explanation.

I’ve read much of the information and stories presented in Dragons: Legends and Lore of Dinosaurs before. However, there were a few places where I read something new.

Dragons: Legends and Lore of Dinosaurs kept me fascinated the entire time I perused it. It will make an excellent resource to keep on my shelf with the rest of my creation materials.

This book is incredibly interesting. I suggest you read it today!

"Dragons: Legends & Lore of Dinosaurs" by Bill Looney is a hard to put down book with a little bit of everything for both the older kids and the younger kids. Looking into the many stories in mythology and world cultures about dragons, both younger and older children will be fascinated in learning about the common theme of "dragons" that have permeated in all cultures stories.

Filled with beautiful illustrations, interactive, hand's on facts that for little kids, encourages them to be hands on in the book, and for the older kids, a look into both historical facts and fables,"Dragons: Legends & Lore of Dinosaurs" by Bill Looney, was a book that was most requested and on demand for everyone to gather together and go through.

The family will enjoy dispelling the myths from fact and filled with scriptural references to large beasts that could only be that of dinosaurs, this will guarantee to create insightful discussions with the kids.

The book is a hardy hardcover (helpful with young hands) and yet, not belittling for older kids, who would enjoy going through and learning about rather dragons and dinosaurs are one and the same and why.

Surprisingly for the younger kids, although the information is rather detailed, just from the illustrations, familiar scriptures, parents will be surprised how their attention are not only held but drawn to the book, but then again, who doesn't like dinosaurs and with,"Dragons: Legends & Lore of Dinosaurs", parents can help kids learn more about how dragons may not be so mythical after all.

A great addition for creationist studies of dinosaurs,"Dragons: Legends & Lore of Dinosaurs", is a great addition for the household.

There really isn't any drawbacks to the book and the author does an excellent job of sharing from a biblical basis, with interactive mini-flaps and side stories, a look into,"Dragons: Legends & Lore of Dinosaurs".

I got the book Dragons Legends & Lore of Dinosaurs because it said it showed biblical connections and how they are related to dinosaurs. First I want to start by saying this book is wonderfully interactive. It's not just a read through book which is so good! It really engages the reader by having these lift up flaps and envelopes with additional information. In the center of the book it has a large, double fold out picture. The pages are very sturdy. You should check out the publishers promotional video on youtube.

This book looks cool, but is the content really bilical? Well, let me tell you about it! First it talks about eyewitness encounters that people in the past have had with dragons. Then it gets into biblical connections. It talks first about Satan having influence over the serpent in Genesis. I'm not sure what to make of this. My pastor said that Satan actually was the serpent but I think this is meant to say that Satan took over the serpent which in essence is the same thing?! (I think!)

Next, it goes into the actual Hebrew and Greek texts of the words used in the Bible that translate into dragon. It then lists some verses that perhaps, were talking about dragons. One is Jeremiah 51:34. It actually has a little mini book in the book (this book is hard to describe) that lists all the verses that dragons and dinosaurs were mentioned!

It also goes through dragon slayers and the leviathan described in Job. At the end, it closes with a Dragons in the Bible Q&A. Overall, I think it has some validity and is a really cool and interesting book. I was actually surprised myself to see that it is possible for fire breathing dragons to have existed! I was given this book for free from New Leaf Publishing to review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Being a Christian homeschool Mom I realize the vast amount of resources available for my children to learn about Dragons and Dinosaurs. Most I open and read .. millions of years ago, and immediately put aside. I was excited to review this book for New Leaf Press to see what they would do from a Christian Perspective.
This book is a beautiful hardback book with lift the flaps, mini books inside, fold out pages, and facts based on the Word of God.
From page one the authors encourage the reader to look for the truth about Dinosaurs and Dragons as one of the many creatures made by God. With that, I was able to pull my young ones close by and read the book to them.
The book has legends from a variety of countries, eye witness accounts, scripture where dragon like creatures are mentioned, and even dragon slaying saints.
The visual drawings and photos are excellent quality and my youngest loved those even if the text was geared at more of a pre teen level.
Perfect gift giving book for the young Dragon lover to read through again and again.

"Dragons: Legends & Lore of Dinosaurs" is a juvenile nonfiction book about the ancient eyewitness accounts of dragons and how their descriptions match those of dinosaurs. The book is illustrated with full-color pictures--mainly of dragons and dinosaurs--and contains information in pull-out cards, fold-out pages, attached booklets, and more. Kids will enjoy the interactive nature of this book, but the removable parts could potentially be lost if the reader forgot to return them to their envelope on the page.

The book covered topics like the various dragon legends from cultures around the world, preserved eyewitness accounts about dragons, the connection between dragons and dinosaurs, dragons in the Bible, sea-serpent legends, and answers to several Christian questions about dragons (like when were dragons created, what did they originally eat, etc.).

I'd highly recommend this Christian book to children (and adults) who are interested in dragons and/or dinosaurs.

I received this book as a review copy from the publisher.
