Kieran needs money for his estate and tenants. He's forced to marry this crude American's daughter. The girl is plain, with hideous clothes. She hardly ever speaks and stares at the floor. He has no feelings for her but knows he must do his duty.

Diantha has a hard life. Her family treats her horribly. She's not allowed to even talk. She's terrified that Kieran will mistreat her as well. Luckily, Kieran decides to take things slow between them. They slowly get better acquainted on the boat home, and eventually, they finally consummate their marriage. Yay!

Everything is wonderful until Diantha catches him colluding with another passenger. This leads to a big fight between the pairs. When they reach Paris, they practically go their own separate ways.

Kieran will not be dictated to by anyone, especially his wife! While he might lust after Diantha, he feels no emotional attachment nor will he ever. When his lust wains for her, she won't be hurt when he turns to another woman. Kieran is shocked when he sees Diantha's new makeover. She's beautiful, and other men are noticing 😡.

Eventually, these two call a truce and make it home to Scotland. Now, Diantha has in-laws to deal with. His aunt is a b***h, who looks down on Diantha's merchant family. Along the way, Diantha's family shows up uninvited. How can this couple deal with their horrible, abusive family? Will Kieran ever let Diantha into his heart?

Conclusion: I enjoyed this slow burn romance. They go from being strangers to becoming friends and lovers. I thought their relationship developed into a believable romance. The story was different and had few good twists at the end. All in all, it's a pretty good hr!

sidrnote: I don't know if Kieran cheats on Diantha in Paris, but he's surrounded by beautiful women all the time. It's kind of implied

ceritanya ttg diantha quinn..seorang gadis amerika kaya yang hidup nya menderita....
selalu diperlakukan buruk oleh oran tua, punya kakak2 yang gak kalah jahat nya....membuat diantha beberapa kali berusaha kabur dari rumah...toh selalu tertangkap..
terakhir dia kabur karena ortu nya ngejodohin dia menikah dengan bangsawan inggris yang punya gelar tapi gak ber-uang...
diantha kabur tapi berhasil di tangkap dan di kurung di dalam kamarnya....
diantha juga gak boleh mengeluarkan pendapatnya..semua baju yang dia pake dipilihin oleh ibu nya yang sama sekali gak sesuai dengan diantha...
bukannya membuat diantha tambah cantik malah membuat dia keliatan gak menarik dan pucat ....
ibu nya cantik sekali, jadi kalo pilih baju selalu yang mahal dan yang sesuai dengan selera dia....
ayahnya seorang bisnisman kaya raya yg bergerak dalam bidang perkapalan....

krn ayah nya menghambur2kan harta keluarga....keluarga rossburn terancam miskin sedangkan dia membutuhkan uang banyak untuk memelihara estate nya dan mengurus tenant nya...
prposalkerjasama yang kierann sampaikan ke ayah diantha di tolak mentah2...sebaliknya...mr.quinn (ayah diantha) memaksa kierann buat menikah dengan diantha sebagai balasan dari dowry besar yang diantha bawa....
keluarga quinn selalu bercita2 buat dapat diterima di kelas para bangsawan, so mereka mau menikahkan anaknya dengan bangsawan yg cocok dengan kriteria mereka...
awalnya kierann sangat menolak, dia gak mau di paksa menikah...tapi mr.quinn mengancam bahwa dia akan cerita yg jelek2 ttg keluarga rossburn sehingga gak ada bisnisman yang mau kerja sama dengan mereka...

demi keluarga dan estate nya akhirya kierann setuju menikahi diantha....
dengan maksud, after menikah, kieran gak perlu harus bersikap setia....
kieran bisa tetap punya mistress dan apapun yang dia suka....
dia kira dia akan menikahi anak manja pewaris keluarga kaya...

tapiiiii....ternyata diantha gak seperti yang dia kira....
diantha walaupun lugu tapi kuat dan punya pendirian.....diantha minta malam pertama di tunda....akhirnya kieran menyanggupi walau dia bilang beberapa hari aja....
awalnya kieran gak mau terpaksa mendatangi kamar 'siri' nya buat melakukan kewajibannya...
tapi setelah melihat diantha benar2...dia malah mau cepat2 malam pertama :p
stilll itu m,asih pure lust....
selama bulan madu diatas kapal, kieran yang sangat ganteng dan di goda para wanita juga selalu membalas flirting wanita2 tsb....
ini bikin diantha marah....
kieran pikir flirting doang kan harmless.....tapi diantha gak mau diperlakukan seperti itu...gak mau jadi wanita yang mesti tutup mata ngeliat kelakuan suami nya tebar pesona...

so....diantah say berani say 'no' to kierann waktu kieran mertayu nya ...

awalnya kieran gak abis pikir....menurut dia bukan hak diantha buat marah2 dan itu gak seperti lady2 kelas atas yang selalu diam dan membawa diri dengan santun...gak meledak2 seperti diantha....

after honeymoon, diantha dibawa ke estate nya...
disana pun diantha diperlakukan enggak baik oleh bibi kierann yang mengusus estate sejak ibu kierann sakit....
si bibi gak suka kierann menikah dengan orang amerika yang 'tidak sederajat'
kalo ada kesempatan si bibi selalu meninggung2 diantha...dan sebel nya kieran gak ngomong apa2.....

after ML pertama kali....kieran ternyata gak bisa melupakan...sesuatu yang dianggap 'keharusan' ternyata bikin dia ketagihan....:p
apalagi diantha yang lugu ternyata punya gairah yang membara dan selalu mau buat belajar 'hal' baru....*ehemmm* ;p

sooooo.....kieran dengan senang hati mengajarkan diantaha buat uhuk2.....
ada adegan yang lucu....diantha kan ngikutin apa yang kieran lakukan ke dia....like bitting nipple.....
nah pas lagi uhuk2 dianta gigit nya kekerasan....hehehehe.....
trus kieran jelasin kalo hal itu beda antara laki2 dan perempuan (duh jadi malu eke :p)

walo kieran selalu bersikap baik ke diantha tapi itu bukan cinta...diantha tau itu.....
kieran gak bisa mencintai wanita karena dia pikir dia seperti bapaknya yang rake....menyakiti ibunya dengan mencari wanita lain di luaran....

tapi walau begitu kieran tetep cemburuan....apalagi pas barclay, anak bibi nya dan sepupu kieran yang tampan datang...
pembawaan barclay yang ramah dan langsung dekat dengan diantha membuat kieran cemburu (walo dia gak mau ngaku)...
diantha pun berteman dengan barclay.....

cinta memang gak datang dengan cepat....semua butuh waktu.....
diantha makin lama merasa bahwa dia mencintai suami nya...tapi dia gak mau menunjukan....dia tau kalo kierann tau dia cinta kierann...kierann bakal menjauh dan kabur....
diantha pun akrab dengan ibu kieran yang sakit2 an....

sampe suatu saat..desa tempat kierann tinggal di serang badai...28 org penduduk, anak2 dan dewasa mati pada saat melaut....
kierann langsung pergi ke desa nya.....dan melarang diantha ikut.....

diantha yang heran jadi bertanya2..ada apa di desa tsb sampe kieran sangat perhatian dan langsung pergi kesana dan gak boleh dia ikut....
sampai barclay bilang kalo kierann punya hubungan dengan wanita2 di desa itu dan mungkin kieran mau mencari kabar ttg anak2 haramnya....
hal ini bikin diantha galau.....
sampai diantha keliatan upset pas menemani ibu kierann...
ibu mertua nya bertanya ada apa dan diantha ngejelasin mengenai omongan barclay...

ibu mertua nya kasih tau diantha kalo yg ada di desa itu sebenernya wanita simpenan almarhum suami nya...
sejak dia sakit dan gak bisa melayani suami nya, dia memberi kebebasan suaminya buat mencari wanita lain...so akhirnya suami nya berhubungan dengan seorang janda di desa itu dan punya anak.....
kierann baru tau after ayah nya meninggal...
kierann yang selalu pingin seorang saudara ke tempat saudara tirinya tapi di tolak oleh saudara tirinya itu....
dan rupanya si saudara tiri termasuk di antara org yang kapal nya terserang badai dan meninggal...

so...diantha menyusul kierann ke desa itu dengan bantuan groom kepercayaan kieran....
diantha membantu disana tanpa sepengetahuan kierann...
awalnya kieran marah melihat diantha disana..tapi akhir nya kierann menerima....
apalagi diantha menemani dia pas dia menangis dan walaupun diantha disuruh pergi tapi diantha gak mau pergi dan memeluk kierann..
kierann bilang kalo diantha tetap disana dia gak bakal bisa menahan diri dan gak bisa gentle pas uhuk2....tapi diantha nya tetep mau nemani dia...so uhuk2 lah mereka disana :p

after kejadian itu mereka semakin dekat...dan kieran pun semakin peduli dengan diantha...dia gak pernah mikir lagi buat mencari mistress...padahal awalnya after dia uhuk2 sama diantha dia selalu meninggalkan diantha dan kembali ke kamar nya..dia gak mau terlalu dekat dengan diantha so kalo nanti gairah sudah memudar dan dia mencari mistress dia gak perlu menghadapi wajah diantha yang sedih...
makin lama bersama diantha kierann merasakan perasaan sayang....walo dia belom mau ngaku kalo itu cinta...

suatu hari...kierann after pergi dengan barclay selama 3 hari gak pulang2...diantha khawatir.....
ternyata kierann di culik...barclay yang awalnya keliatan baik ternyata punya maksud jahat....
dia mamu membunuh kierann dan menikahi diantha supaya menjadi pewaris dan memiliki harta diantha....
diantha yang mendengar pembicaraan barclay dan org suruhannya langsung memutuskan untuk kabur dan mencari kierann..
sayangnya barclay berhasil menangkap diantha dan di bawa ke reruntuhan tempat dia menahan kierann...

di depan kieran barclay meminta diantha menikahi nya atau diantha akan di bunuh bersama2 kierann,,,,kierann pun demi nyawa diantha minta supa diantha setuju....tapi diantha gak mau dan memilih mati bersama kierann...
disitu kierann baru sadar kalo dia mencintai diantha..dan dia berjanji kalo sampai mereka selamat, dia akan membahagiakan diantha dan jadi suami setia :p

sayangnya barclay berhasil menembak kieran.....diantha yang marah menyerang barclay....menyebabkan barclay jatuh ke jurang dan mati....

untungnya gak berapa lama groom kierann datang menolong...kieran yang terkena luka tembak parah di bawa ke estate nya...
diantha selalu menemani dan menjaga kierann.....

bibi nya kieran yang jahat pun bunuh diri setelah tau anaknya, barclay meninggal....

gimana ending nya ???
kierann yang udah sembuh mengajak diantha pergi ke suatu tempat....
ternyata diantha di ajak ke tempat yg sakral bagi kierann dan disana kierann melamar diantha untuk ke 2 kali....kali ini dengan perasaan sungguh2 dan mengakui kalo dia mencintai diantha....very sweet... ^^


nb : adegan uhuk2 nya lumayan deh...soalnya abis nikah kan pasti uhuk2 mulu hehehehe.....

Ann Stephens' Her Scottish Groom is an historical novel with a twist. Diantha is a woman far ahead of her time. She wants freedom to choose whom she marries, to choose what she wants to be. She is not content with letting others make choices for her. She wants to be in charge of her own life. I really appreciated her spirit and rebellious nature. Kieran had me at hello because I am such a fan of Alpha Scottish men. He has a fiercely independent streak and a strong leadership air about him, yet he has a good heart. He was very surprised at his bride’s independent streak but pleased as well. Despite their rough beginning, they are a perfect match, their love seeing them through. I really loved reading such a purely romantic book.

I love the marriage of convenience trope and this book fully embodied what I like most: husband and wife fall in love after they’re married and some time after they consummate with no insta-love after sex. I did read the authors profile stating this was her second book published and it shows in the writing. Threads and themes are introduced but not fully played out. A bit clumsy.
However, I do like that Ms. Stephens at least *attempts* to “show” instead of “tell”, for instance, Diantha has compassion as shown by her relationship with her mother-in-law as well as by her disaster relief efforts.

Very formulaic, nothing new or interesting in this story. A young woman is married off to a Scott who is none too impressed with her. He marries her for money. He fully intends to return to his mistresses, and doesn't change his mind until way past half the book. This is a love story? He plans to do this because he thinks he is like his father. I was glad when this uninspiring book was over.

Book Review Of “Her Scottish Groom” By Ann Stephens

Diantha Quinn has suffered immense abuse from her mother and father. Diantha has also been told by her parents that she is to marry a Scottish Lord named Kieran Rossburn. Diantha’s father made a business deal with Lord Rossburn, that he would receive a huge amount of money and new ships for his village if he agreed to marry his daughter. Poor Diantha, shes does not want to marry this stranger, she only wanted to marry for love. What choice does Diantha have though? Does she stay with her parents and live a life of hell, or take her Granny’s advice and make the best of her new marriage to Lord Rossburn.

Diantha’s new husband is full of surprises and that doesn’t including the “surprises” in the bedroom that Diantha will soon learn about. Lord Rossburn is a patient man, and he will show Diantha the respect that she deserves and did not receive from her parents. Diantha will also know what it is like to be loved and wanted, even if she has trouble admitting that she has fallen in love with her new husband when she is trying to keep the marriage in name only.

Diantha and Kieran both come from different worlds. Diantha is American born and has been raised by privilege and has been brought up to never have to work for her stuff. Kiern Rossburn inherited his title from his father and has learned to run a small village, ride horses and learn to appreciate the things around him. Both Diantha and Kieran will learn new things from one another and have to accept their marriage in name and possibly in love one day. Ann Stephens lights the pages up with passion and romance in this one. I love the romantic side, and total patience that Kieran showed towards Diantha. Kieran never once looked down on his new wife like her parents did. He even stood up for his wife in front of her parents and his family. Historical Romance lovers will fall in love with Ann Stephen’s novel “Her Scottish Groom”. I look forward to reading more of Ann Stephen’s books.

This arranged marriage of convenience focused on the developing relationship between Diantha, daughter of a wealthy American merchant and Kieran, an impoverished Scottish lord. She was a sorely abused family commodity who only wanted some independence from her brutal parents, and he was a proud aristocrat who expected to follow his late father's faithless ways. Kieran really didn't believe he had it in him to remain faithful to one woman. Yet these two made a lovely couple as they learned about one another and tested each others' limits along the way. Their romance was sensual and romantic, and I loved the way Kieran patiently taught Diantha to enjoy the lusty side of marriage.

There was nothing subtle about Diantha's controlling parents, and they were a very real threat to her well being. Likewise, Kieran's family--with the exception of his mother--was also an obstacle to their happiness; his aunt was very hostile while the cousin had ulterior motives.

At a certain point, the plot suddenly and somewhat awkwardly turned towards the village which became a convenient lead-in for the more dastardly events engineered by the cousin. As it came out of the blue, the scenario felt rather forced. Ultimately, though, the couple's love persevered. Despite the clumsy but thankfully short plot hiccup, Her Scottish Groom is still a lovely gem at four stars.

Diantha Quinn, daughter of a wealthy American merchant, is forced to marry Lord Keiran Rossburn, who needs a large dowry to save his estate. Diantha, a plain Jane, was treated more like a commodity by her social-climbing parents. She has never really experienced love and affection and she does not expect such from her husband.

Keiran knows women and their attraction him. He resents his marriage but charms and seduces his wife at first to make their marriage pleasant. He avoids emotional attachment knowing he won't be able to or want to stay faithful to his wife.

This was no insta-love. I love how both Diantha and Keiran resist each other but slowly fall in love. Both were stubborn and had jealous tantrums. The "conjugal relations" were surprisingly steamy.

The only thing that I didn't love was the twist near the end. I think it would have worked better as a sweet romance, without the added "suspense" part of the story.

Fans of Downton Abbey will enjoy this romance between an American heiress and a Scottish peer. While I was reading this I sometimes imagined this is how Lord Grantham fell in love with his American wife.

Stephens writes a wonderful historical romance filled with a great story and characters. Diantha Quinn hates her parents for marrying her off when she has so many plans of her own to fulfill. Moreover, she wants her own life and to find her own love, but boy is she surprised to find out that her parents having her marry someone she doesn’t know and who lives across the ocean. Kieran Rossburn does not like the idea of a marriage of connivence, but will do anything to preserve his home the way it is even if it means going all the way to American to collect his bride. I really enjoyed this story because it talks about two different types of people, who want their own lives, but yet come together beautifully as a couple. Both Kieran and Diantha will get to know each other in a way that they learn they fit together and face the odds together. You feel like you are with the characters, feeling their emotion. From start to finish, this book was such a pleasure to read and those who love romance and historical romance will enjoy it. Stephens’ is one of my new favorite authors to watch for!

After reading an excerpt of Ann Stephens' website, I am rushing out to buy this book. Historical romance is my weakness in life. I cannot have too many of them, and my book collection proves my addiction. This is one of those books that I cannot rest until I've read it. I'm going to put down the book I'm currently read -- yes, it's true -- and I'm going to make it my mission for the weekend to read Her Scottish Groom. The local bookstore better have it or I'll be rush ordering from Amazon!

This story was wonderful in that the heroine never allowed him to walk all over her once they were married but didn't act out in a way that made me want to hit her.

I enjoyed that the hero was also true to his time period and slowly began to fall for his wife though his reasons for keeping his distance were a bit tired.

The village subplot was weak. I think the story could have stood on its own without it as that just pulled me from the story and seemed like an awkward way to deal with some strange obligations.

mid story i really started disliking kieran, but in the end he turned it all around and won me over.
