And so the series finishes with a whimper. I know a series hasn't grabbed me when I don't wait with excitement for a new one to come out. The short story of hers I read in the Doms of Dark Haven was short enough to keep my attention. Truthfully, after reading these, I would say that short stories are her forte and she should go with them.
Inamorata is strong, confident and knows what she wants out of life. She's fallen into a sexual relationship with Wes, one based on mutual respect for their jobs and scratching an itch. Wes wants more, Inamorata seems content with the status quo.
But wait, there's more! After six months of this, all of a sudden Wes is a DOM! I didn't look for his big shiny buckle, but I'm sure he had it somewhere. We know he's a Dom because the author told us so. Strangely, it's not come up in the six months they've been together even though Inamorata is a submissive. See, the thing is, most Doms and subs recognize their opposites. I like to say that my submissive ear hears his Dominant voice. But, sure, yeah, he's a Dom. Scene set.
If the author went offkey there, she lost me next when she had Wes, someone who had been strong and even-tempered, suddenly fly into a temper over Inamorata leaving and keep him in that temper as he attempted to dominate her. Anyone worth their ilk knows that the first thing a Dominant controls is himself. Inamorata herself struck a nail when she thought of him as domineering. There is a big difference between domineering and dominant.
The action in the story wasn't as bad in this book so kudos on that. I also like Wes' gadgets and the geeks' humor. There, I said something nice. Recommend these though? No, I'm sorry, I couldn't do that. I'm putting all her books on a back burner, way, way in the back, because I'm so disappointed with the Hawkeye series from start to finish.
