From diamonds hidden in a grandmother's pantry to a nun teaching a sex education lesson, "Birdhouse" is full of life - and its flip-side. It includes an award-winning sequence of elegies for the poet's family who were victims of the holocaust. Already widely published, this is Anna Woodford's first full-length collection.
I enjoyed this quite a lot. There are several poems about sex and quite a few poems about grandparents and great-grandparents; and, thankfully, there is really no crossover between those topics.
The cover design is simply exquisite. The book is well produced and edited with plenty of room on the pages for the poems to breathe. I will be considering more books from Salt Publishing.
