Nearly everyone wants to fall in love. For Hannah, that means finding a nice, single lesbian--not so easy, even in a city as big as New York. When she meets Kate in Central Park, Hannah is sure she's found her dream girl. A sassy painter with a wicked sense of humor, Kate is everything Hannah wants... except that she's not a lesbian, and she's most definitely not single. Hannah hides her crush on Kate, and they build a friendship, but it's not long before another wrinkle presents itself: his name is Michael, and he just happens to be Kate's husband. When Hannah finds herself attracted to both Kate and Michael, her world is turned upside down. She's forced to question everything she knows about herself, in order to get what she's wanted for so long. How far outside the box can she think, if it means finding the place where she belongs?

I picked up this book at the recommendation of the publisher, due to its focus on non-traditional relationships, which is something I've been wanting to read about in fiction. Other than that (and reading the blurb from the back of the book), I didn't really have any idea what to expect. However, after reading just the first couple of chapters, I found myself wondering why I'd put off buying the book for so long. At least I started reading it almost immediately when it did arrive!

I fell in love with the humour in the book, losing count how many times it made me laugh out loud. If I hadn't chosen to start reading it whilst I had guests staying at my place, I probably would've attempted to read the whole thing in one sitting (as it was, I still managed to read it in two days, which is almost unheard of for me speeding through fiction that quick).

The characters are fun and relatable, and I particularly connected with the main character, Hannah. Though she identifies as lesbian, I found her feelings universal, and I do think that heterosexual readers would be able to connect with that. I think most people have probably experienced falling for someone they know they shouldn't, and trying to fighting. Michael was also a great character, and I loved how he interacted with Hannah in particular. I think he's a shining example of how a man should act if he should ever find himself in the same position.

The picnic scene in chapter 8 was fantastic in showing how everyone was feeling without spelling it out for the reader, which is something that I would note for the whole book, but was certainly a highlight for me due to the tension in the scene. Other highlights include well-written sex scenes, and the fact that relationship difficulties were not glossed over - I loved the fact that the non-traditional relationship(s) therein were not just romanticised.

Overall, I found it to be a pretty realistic portrayal of the kinds of emotions people deal with in relationships, and I find myself wondering which of my friends to recommend it to first, since I can think of several, as well as being tempted to just send them my book (if only I didn't want to keep it so I could read it again ;))
