Tsukuji, Akihito (つくし あきひと) is a Japanese mangaka. He has works in Fairy Musketeers (TV) as a character designer, and is the original creator of Made in Abyss, a fantasy and adventure manga.
Final thoughts:this is a pretty interesting story with beautiful art and scenery. I would not reccomened it in any wya tho because it's utterly ruined by the creator being a massive nonce.
someone please get tepaste a new stylist, her fit is awful. the author's incelness seeps into the book once again and overshadows any impressive plot to be had...
There's a lot to unpack here but one thing is for sure, the author has since fetishes being expressed in some questionable ways. The butt sniffing scene left me speechless and the adult children stopping to show off their bits for a costume commentary... I dunno how I've lasted this long! Maybe it's the irresistible curiosity of finding it the meaning of it all say the final chicken?
All right! The city is behind our heroes, and it's time to head for the absolute point of no return as they descend to the 7th layer...right? Sadly, wrong. Half of this volume is spent on the backstory of a corpse they stumble across. I...really don't care about that at this point in the journey. Sure, it does establish another character they run into, but I'm not terribly thrilled about that either, because their crossing of paths seems like it's leading into another time sink of a stop. I really just wanted to see what else the Abyss had in store for them, but instead we've got another slew of characters who are going to take up their time for who knows how long?
And yes, there's the chance that this group might end up being as endearing as the last group we got to know, but we just got done with that arc. And that really does illustrate some pacing issues with Made in Abyss: It seems like it took almost no time at all to get down to the 5th layer, but since then progress has really slowed down. Which is a shame that's compounded by the fact that the 6th layer...really doesn't have much to distinguish itself. The effects of ascending are a lot worse, and I guess the creatures tend to be bigger, but aside from that? Compared to an upside-down forest, or giant bowl-shaped plants filled with pools of acidic water, the 6th layer kinda looks a lot like the 1st: some unusual plants and the occasional weird rock, but fairly indistinct. The 7th layer is heavily implied to be a reality-bending maelstrom of chaos; I would very much prefer to be seeing some of that, rather than palling around with another group of hollows who've set up shop in the 6th layer.
I still like the series overall, but this volume was a bit of a disappointment.
We’re getting back into the adventure, only to stop and be curious over what’s happening with another camp. Yes, there are ridiculous kinks being shoved in here that could and should be trashed(like smelling Faupta’s butthole?! Really?!). I did enjoy how we were starting our journey again, though it did seem a tad slow, and was thoroughly interested to see side characters back up in Orth unveil something seriously mysterious! Made in Abyss still has my attention, but it seems almost every layer we get sidetracked to a new camp and stop our journey deeper. It takes us out of the story, and I’m hoping it isn’t like this with the new arc we’re introduced to.
A great story and manga, or would be if not for the fact that the author is a full p*d*ph*le. The manga features some disturbing and/or gross depictions of children right in your face from time to time (which, in case anyone wonders, do not add anything to the deeper meaning of the story and come literally out of nowhere). Do not read if not ready to scroll past such imagery, and please do not buy. A censored version is available on reddit.
With the last arc done, the group finally progresses on their journey, now with Faputa. Once again, this is a creepy (in good and bad ways) story that has some very creative worldbuilding. I wish the bad, weird creepy parts like butt sniffing weren't there, but in general, the plot is going into a very interesting, mysterious and somewhat brutal direction.
