Honestly, if it weren't for the helpful exercises and tests in the back this probably would only be a two from me.
Was very excited to read this book about highly sensitive traits and people and then.... It became much more of a textbook to get through. I'm really glad she wrote the book, there isn't much information out there from qualified sources, and it's a thorough look at it's history, traits, and co-occurring issues etc. But it's dry and it's a struggle to get through. Reads a bit like a thesis that get worked over a bit to be palatable for the public.
I feel bad writing that, bc I'm sure there is so much experience and time and research that went into it. So, if the subject interests you and you read German, check it out. Maybe it's just my German that caused the struggle.
On the topic of HSP (highly sensitive people) I did find the history and some of the differential diagnosis info helpful. As well as the discussions about what it actually is and the indicators and tests. It confirmed for me that I am indeed an HSP who is tuned in to more stimuli in and around me than the average person. Of course that has advantages and disadvantages. But it also needs it's proper recognition, especially from me. This book is helpful for seeing that. It needs to be balanced correctly in my life, not seen as a super power per se or something to shove under the rug.
All in all, if I were studying this as an undergrad, this would be an important and helpful overview I think. As a lay person- skim it. (To be fair, I now recall, the other does say that.... 🫣)
