Smut for smut's sake. The heroine has 3 different sexual encounters between her job and home. When she finally makes it into the house, she catches her live-in bf trying to dispose of a used condom. She kicks his ass out and breaks up with him for "disrespecting" her. WTF? At least he used protection you skanky ho!

Aikens brings a lovely, vibrant voice to Romantica (although I think this particular story would be best classified as erotic chick-lit with romantic elements), and if you love Sasha White, you will definitely want to check her out as she has a lot of the same elements going for her--Vancouver setting, first-person narrator, fast moving plot, and lots and lots of hot no-holds barred love scenes. I struggled with what to rate this because I loved all those elements, and I plan to look for Aikens' future releases as I do absolutely love her voice. However, I would have liked to have seen more plot tying together the love scenes, and more time spent on the slow development of Mandy's relationship with James. Love scenes work best for me when they are in the context of a greater plot and necessary for character growth and development. Super-hot is awesome, but even within erotica, plot makes all the difference. Also, I had major issues with a few of the love scenes as Mandy's consent seemed murky at best. And yes, I think that was part of the fantasy for Mandy, but it just doesn't work for me. If you have an independent, spunky, contemporary heroine, I, personally, want her to be fully on-board for what happens to her, and if she's voluntarily giving up control, that needs to be clearly consensual too. There were a few scenes here where the action kept coming despite Mandy saying no, and I wasn't cool with that. My other similar quibble is that even in erotic romance, I still like to see safe sex--I know there are plenty who disagree, but it really takes me out of a story to have to worry about the riskiness of characters' actions. As this is Aikens's debut, I'm really excited to watch her grow her considerable talent--if she adds more complex plots and characterization like Sasha White, Maya Banks, and Megan Hart, she will be a major force in erotic romance.

I don't even know how to review this one. I am all for whatever floats your boat sexually, but had a hard time with borderline-rape sex scenes written as erotic and steamy. And then for the new boyfriend to break it up one minute, and join in the next? Didn't work for me. Mandy just pissed me off.

This one gets 3/5 stars for the sex and 1/5 stars for content...so that rounds it out at 2/5 stars.

There is no doubt about it, the sex is hot and definitely adventurous, but the actual plot was severely lacking.

We meet Mandy who is a librarian with a boring live-in boyfriend. They have sex on three specified days of the week and frankly, she is bored with the routine of it all. Mandy longs for the passion and spontaneity that couples should share...she wants more than the "Friday night missionary positions special".

She awakes one morning after a particularly stirring erotic dream -- feeling a little frisky--only to be left high and dry. Once she leave the house, it borders on absurdity at how many men are sniffing around her. I mean seriously...it was ridiculous.

If you are looking for a dirty hot read with lots of sex and not much else, this is the book for you. If you are looking for an erotic read with a riveting plot, keep on moving!

3 Stars ~ Ms. Aiken's debut is a story of a young woman's sexual awakening. Though this story is very nicely written, it really didn't hit the mark for me. I'm not great with female first person, and this story is written from the heroine Mandy's point of view. While the sex scenes are hot, there seems to be a lack of depth to the characters. I just didn't feel this one.

This was HOT AS HELL. Sure, Mandy may take a wide left turn in her ease with intimacy but it was super steamy and erotic. Read with your mind open to unexpected twists and surprise (happy) endings.

I kept going back and forth on the gender of the person writing this. Some of it sounds like it's written for the male gaze but there are sections that are vivid about the experience from a female perspective. Maybe it's because I found Sean a complete jerk and didn't like his sections of the book, maybe it's the comments about the big black cock, or maybe it's because some of Mandy's self-talk didn't sound realistic to me. (I'm willing to acknowledge that just because it made me cringe doesn't mean it isn't the experience of someone else.) But I loved Mr Sparkly Eyes and wanted more of him and I loved most of the final chapter. (Not a fan of James claiming exclusivity of Mandy's pussy but then again, I am poly.) Certainly one of the better ménage stories I've read but taking a star off for the murky consent on some of the scenes.

Read like someone's self-insert fanfiction, except without any characters I already knew, or even any characters I could enjoy. I couldn't even finish it because I got sick of the main character halfway through.

This was my first foray into reading erotica, and it was HOT with a capital "H"! I really enjoyed the sex scenes. They were well-written and definitely sexy. There wasn't much of a plot, though, so if you're looking for something other than a ton of sex, you may be disappointed.

I had a few minor quibbles with this one. Mandy seems to go from one man to the next with barely a pause (and with no protection). I understand that she was experiencing a sexual awakening, but it seemed a bit much to happen in such a short period of time. Also, it seemed like the author took a whole bunch of sexual fantasies and threw them all into the same book. It kept things interesting, but at the same time seemed unrealistic.

That being said, I DID enjoy this a lot and will look for more of this author's work in the future.

Oopss, naughty, naughty, Overdue for Pleasure by Shelly Aikens is not for the innocent ones. This book have loads of spectacular, orgasmic scene. If you're looking for hot stuff, then this is the book to read. This book is strictly for pleasure and nothing else, so please be forewarned. If you're looking for emotional, complicated plot kinda books, then this books is definitely is NOT for you. If you're looking for some wanton escapism, however, by all means, pick up this book and make your day.

Not quite sure how to rate this book, but I'd give it a 2 star on the plot, and 4 stars on the sexy, mind-blowing scenes.

I knew this would be an interesting book as the opening scene involved a sex scene, of course we find out it was an erotic dream, but what a way to start out.

With her dream and what happens directly after with her boyfriend, Manda is slowly realizing that her and her boyfriend's idea about sex are vastly different. Manda starts to take some risks that while fun, aren't really safe. It is also ironic that later on she makes a choice that seems very safe, but actually is risky in a way that she needs. Through this story Manda discovers quite a bit about herself and just what she needs in a sexual relationship.

Overdue for Pleasure certainly lives up to its title. I appreciated the openness Mandy experiences within her sexuality. The fact that her lovers are willing to share her only heightens the reader’s involvement in the story. I did have a slight problem with the almost non-consensual sex scene later on in the book. It was not rape, but it treaded a very fine line. That scene broke my stride as I read on, but I was quickly able to rebound. Ms. Aikens turns an extremely sensual tale with Mandy and her beautiful men.

The writing is good. The plot... about what you'd expect for an erotic story or XXX movie, which is not much. The hunks are hot. I like wild sex as much as the next person, and I was even willing to ignore the "eww" reaction I had (several times) when she was having unprotected sex with strangers--it's pure fiction, ok, I get it. But this just went too far into "rape fantasy" for my tastes. There's nothing sexy (to me) about thinking/saying "no" and being coerced into "yes." Or being gagged and forced into sex, yet thinking "mmm... what a nice penis." Just too creepy for me.

I had so many issues with this book. On one hand, there were parts of it that I liked, but as the story went on, it just became weirder and weirder. The heroine kept having sex with these guys, but it was almost like she didn't know why she was doing it...? Also, toward the end, there are some serious dubious consent issues going on, to the point where I was rather bothered and even disturbed.

I'm reluctant to say that I enjoyed this book. I would re-read the parts I liked, but skip over the creepy stuff.

An extremely sexy book filled with lots of graphic sexual adventures. I liked that the main character was a librarian exploring her wild side. I found some of her situations a little bizarre but it was a pretty good book.

Mandy is a librarian who goes home early one day and finds out her boyfriend was cheating and kicks him out. She then explores her sexuality and ends up in some risky situations. In the end she takes a risk on the right person and finds what she needs in her sexual relationships.

Really enjoying Carina books, lately. They keep the heat level up but still romantic and well-written. This one was sweeter than some but still steamy!

Read like erotica for the vast majority of it - like 98% - not really believable and inconsistent characters, but pretty hot.

Lots of sex, of course. It's that type of book.

I wasn't surprised to find that the author is a librarian. It was obvious she knew the field, whether by good research or personal experience.
