Many of Sempe's intricate and evocative illustrations are accompanied by laconic, perfectly judged captions, which were translated by Anthea Bell, who also helped to bring Asterix the Gaul to the English-speaking world.

À 17 ans, Sempé roule à bicyclette pour un courtier en vins. En 1960, il démarre avec René Goscinny l'aventure du petit Nicolas, dressant une inoubliable galerie de portraits d' "affreux jojos qui tapissent depuis notre imaginaire" (dixit Goscinny). Son humour fin, subtil et allusif allié à un formidable sens du dérisoire caractérisent toute son ouvre. Sa plume traduit sa vision tendrement ironique de nos travers et des travers du monde. Aujourd'hui, Sempé est l'auteur d'une trentaine d'albums. En 1988, il a illustré Catherine Certitude, de Patrick Modiano. Il dessine régulièrement pour L'Express, Télérama, le New Yorker et expose ses dessins et ses aquarelles à Munich, New York, Londres ou Salzburg, où il rencontre toujours un très vif succès.

He is known for the series of children's books he created with René Goscinny, Le petit Nicolas, and also for his poster-like illustrations, usually drawn from a distant or high viewpoint depicting detailed countrysides or cities.

تو دو مرحله اتفاق افتاد. اولش به خودم گفتم:« من خاطراتم رو دارم.اونا مال منه و هیچکس نمی‌تونه ازم بگیردشون.» و بعد کنجکاو شدم بدون که،«با این وجود، کی ممکنه اونا رو بخواد؟»


واقعا ایده‌ش معرکه بود. این که بین یه‌عالم آدم تو یه جا، بری ببینی که یکی داره به بغل‌دستی‌ش چی می‌گه :]

راستش دیشب مصمّم بودم بهش پنج بدهم. به خاطر نقّاشی‌هاش و همین‌طور به خاطر بعضی ایده‌هاش!
امّا الان دارم فکر می‌کنم که چهارتا خوب است! تا بدین ترتیب به سامپه این فرصت را داده باشم که در بعدی‌ها حتّی از این بهتر و درخشان‌تر ظاهر شود... :)

دو تا صفحه‌ی فوق‌العاده داشت.
اوّلی؛ یه کلیسای عظیم تیره با درخت‌های انبوهِ بلند تیره اطراف‌ش، با یه درِ خیلی بلندِ سیاه که ل‍اش باز شده و یه پیرزن [بچّه؟] با نیشِ باز از توش به داخلِ کلیسا نگاه می‌کنه. ابعادِ پیرزن/بچّه‌هه یک‌هزارمِ درِ سیاهِ بلند ه. گوشه‌ی تصویر هم یه دوچرخه‌س، در همون ابعادِ پیرزن/بچّه‌هه. و کپشن‌ش این ه: «دوچرخه‌مو پیدا کردم!» [ص 17]
دوّمی؛ یه تظاهراتِ خیلی بزرگ و پل‍اکاردهای عظیمِ «مالیات‌ها را کم کنید» و «اصل‍احات» و «آزادی» و امثاله؛ و گوشه‌ی تصویر، آقای کل‍اه‌به‌سرِ «:|»طوری که تابلویی که دست‌ش گرفته، روش نوشته «من کل‍اً احساس خوبی ندارم». [ص 37]

عاشقِ عاشقِ عاشقِ این دو تا شدم من.

+ یه کپشن عالی: «تو هم این حس رو داشتی؟ هروقت عبارت «علیه امنیت ملّی» رو می‌خونم یه لرزش مطبوعی روی ستون‌فقرات‌م احساس می‌کنم.» 8->

خیلی "عالی" نبود آنطور که انتظار داشتم ازش...!
ولی نقاشی هایش....8->>>>>> عالی اند. فوق العاده بودند...

This hardly counts as book if you are just measuring by time spent reading the book (maybe 5-10 minutes?). However, it's still worth a peek because the guy can make you laugh and or smile with a whimsical drawing and an idle thought.

I just simply love the drawings of Sempe. It always brings a smile to my face. All the little details that may appear sooooo simple but yet so significant. His observation is amazing!
