Sew! is a treasure trove of simple projects all made using Cath Kidston's popular printed fabrics. Reflecting her love of vintage-style patterns, the fabrics feature fresh colors in delightful and unexpected combinations. There are 43 fun and useful projects, all shown in stunning, close-up photographs complete with full-size pattern and on an enclosed sheet for each project, step-by-step instructions and templates.
Some of the projects included are: -a patchwork knitting bag -a child's apron complete with handy pocket -a useful inside-out tote that expands for extra bulk -a mix-and-match bird mobile for a child -a practical zippered knitting needle case -a charming quilted purse -an amusing airplane blanket and much more!
All the techniques are clearly explained in an introductory wealth of fantastic ideas and tips for variations, allowing you to customize the basic designs are you wish!
I have to say that I am amazed at the repetition of sewing projects being published in sewing books like this one. Basic bags, zippered pouches, cushions, totes, placemats and napkins make up most of the projects in this book, and I've seen it all before in many other sewing books (not to mention all the free projects just like these available online).
This might be a good book for an absolute beginner who really loves Cath Kidston's style, but a seasoned sewer won't find enough new or fresh in the pages of this book to make it a worthy purchase.
I love Cath Kidston stuff. Or I thought I did. Seeing it in a book like this it looks all twee and weird housewifey, if you know what I mean. Very Stepford Wives meets Eerie Indiana meets corporate big scam into happy homespun. Toast you old cynic, its just a book on sewing 'nice' things the CK way. Exactly. Toast
I am surprised that more people didn't rate this higher... perhaps they thought the projects to simplistic? I loved the variety and that so many could be used as nice little gifts. I really liked the sew! basics section at the front of the book. Templates for all projects are included.
This book was ok but once again this was not what I was expecting. I thought that this was going to be more like this is a bag, this is how you construct it, blah blah blah. There did not seem to be any order to the set up to this book.
This book has plenty of patterns and tutorials. If you don't know a lot about sewing and want to make cutesy projects this book is for you. A lot of the projects are similar. There is Applique, Quilting, basic sewing and more. If you want to learn how to quilt but have never done it before this book tells you how. I like the Knitting Bag pattern and may end up making it later because it involves 2 things I adore. The bag will likely end up as a crochet bag instead of a knitting bag but it works for me. I have so much yarn and fabric that I need something to do with both. I like this book and it has a classic feel, it has projects that look like something your Grandmother would make but they're adorable.
I received this book from Goodreads First Reads and St. Martin's Griffin Publisher. This is the cutest book! The pictures are so great! There are so many projects and I love them all. When I won this book I was a little intimidated by it and thought the projects would be too hard and there might be a few things that I want to make but once I actually got it the book it wasn't intimidating at all and it made me want to make everything! The instructions seem really clear and there are good illustrations to go along with the instructions and there are full sized pattern sheets for every project in the book. I can't wait to get some free time!
Sure, they give you free fabric. But just the tad of fabric they give you and no cotton and needles is pathetic. And it cost so much to buy this book. Save your money and buy a cheaper book and spend money on our own fabric. This brand is so popular, people don't realise that they are over-spending on a brand which totally isn't worth THAT MUCH. To me, it's a scam.
This is a really good book for someone new to sewing or someone with a little experience who wants some simple projects to work on for practice. Some people have given this a poor review as the projects are basic, but the clue is in the title..."40 Simple Sewing Projects". I think it is a lovely book and it comes with full size patterns and templates and a cute needle case with needles too - bonus!
A nice little book given to me as a gift, I shall have a go at making some of the items inside they seem pretty easy. There are templates for the motifs used on the different projects. I do like the book and it was a good gift but would maybe I'd not have paid the price myself it seems a little expensive..
The instructions on how to make certain patterns and the basic sewing skills needed to work on the various projects were easy and straight-forward. I enjoyed starting off with making the square pillow and then making my way through the other projects that I wanted to create. Overall this is a great craft-book for those just beginning to learn how to sew.
I received this advanced copy from Goodreads. I am a graphic designer and I have to say that this book is very well designed. Fun to look through, easy to read guides and instructions. Good variety of projects with a few random ones thrown in...hot water bottle cover? It is 2014 :)
It's lovely stuff but there was nothing extraordinary in here. It didn't help that because I got it from the library it didn't come with the pattern sheet
