Measures of Grace continues the captivating story begin in book #1, Like a River Glorious, as Corrine accepts Christ and struggles to make up for her life of crime. Unbeknownst to her, however, is a mysterious man who is harboring bitter resentment and is plotting her destruction.
I have thoroughly enjoyed working my way through all of Lawana Blackwell’s book series. In her quiet gentle way she builds characters you care about who each develop maturity and strength in relatable ways. I appreciate the wide range of ages in her characters and the biblical worldview given to the reasons for and the solutions to their conflicts and growth.
Completely predictable, of course. Better than the first book though. Jenny's experiences were creepy. Even at ten years old, I would not have put up with a single bit of it. I would not have slept in a dead kid's shrine or worn her clothes or cuddled her dolls or answered to her name. Yikes. I was amazed that she seemed so untouched by it. Just kind of tired and weary. I think that would mess with any kid, or person for that matter.
I thought Corrine's story was not too far outside the realm of believeability and I enjoyed the Christian aspects.

I liked this one more than the first. I really enjoyed the characters in this one. Although I would've enjoyed a bit more romance at the end (this is a SUPER clean book). :)
I usually give most of her books a 5 - she is one of my favourite authors. Not one of Lawana Blackwell's better books - the language style ( and spelling "check for cheque" !!, etc) is far too Americanised for a story set in England. I can't say I have noticed this problem in her other books so far & I have read most of them. Perhaps this was an edition written for the USA?
