After surviving the events at the Costco, Ben and his newly found companions are about to better their living situation. Or are they? With Dustin and Tina on a mission and an unexpected guest from the river, things are once again getting in the way of Ben’s afternoon poolside margaritas.
While the team makes plans behind the walls of their secluded upscale riverside neighborhood to secure the power station on Flemming Island, something on the water is again lurking in the shadows.
With things going so well, what could possibly go wrong....

The Sinking man series follows Ben’s journey in North East Florida with his wife Sarah and his newly found companions. All with one focus. Survive in a world full of ZOMBIES.
This is no longer a limited run series and is now set for several installments. The Sinking Man Series is written to have several short novellas released throughout the year and is geared toward TV adaptation.
Swarmed by Justin Leslie The Sinking Man series #5. Urban fantasy, zombies. Written to this point in episode type length. Should be read in series order. After Ben and his neighbors/companions survive the zombies at Costco, they want to make sure their gated community is secure and sustainable. They keep watch and get a visitor via the water side. The visitor is looking for a companion that went missing. And then a zombie comes stumbling through the woods. That shouldn’t happen. They need to do a perimeter check and make sure all the gates and fences are intact. What they find is disturbing and chilling. Why do connections for the dead psychopath from the neighborhood keep coming back up? Who is lurking behind the fences and why?
Lots of questions. Lots of potential. Is everyone they’ve collected into their little family to be trusted? Will Ben run out of liquor? Since they have figured out that zombies seem to live about a year, where and how are there new ones? Per an author conversation, there is a significant amount of world building still to be revealed. And future releases will be full novel length, instead of these shorts that have been published so far. Stay tuned to see where this goes.
"Swarmed" by Justin S. Leslie is book five in "The Sinking Man" series. I seriously can't get enough of this series. I love following the characters and seeing the different things they are going through during this wild and crazy time. Ben is my favorite, and I enjoy seeing all the different ways he uses to overcome things that are thrown his way. He is always making sure everyone else is safe and doesn't worry about his own safety. The ending definitely leaves me wanting to move right on to the next book.
I’ve really enjoyed this series so far with 5 stars to this point. This story was much more inward focused on the community and for me it didn’t hit the same levels as previous stories. Domesticity in the post apocalyptic world, while having some action doesn’t feel like it had the punch of previous books.
I’m hoping that this is something of a bridging story to get pieces into place for the next step. The epilogue definitely leads into that. Of course with a cliffhanger I’ve now got to wait for book 6!!!
So much stuff going on… I would say that the main group of survivors was left in a good place. The epilogue is a teaser and kind of a cliffhanger but not one that’s left me crazy.
This episode was filled with lots of zombie gore, suspense and dangerous situations. It’s hard to remember but I think this was the most suspenseful episode of all so far. I hope there is more coming soon and that’s not something I thought I’d ever say about a zombie story!
The crew is on edge -the sheer number of zombies is becoming alarming. Some from the group are going to head over the river to finally gather the solar equipment so they can outfit the other houses. Things are off in Florida, the weather continues to be colder than unusual and is starts to snow, making visibility difficult. They also find a portion of the property where it is clear that someone has been watching them. Love this series!
OMG! This a had these little stories in one big story there were at times sweetly funny, sad and downright creepy. There are references to creepy neighbor Ken. Things are coming out of the water, zombies are swarming the front gate and it's snowing in FL! Watch out for the cliffhanger. I need to know what happens to Tina and Dustin!!
