Annie Mae and her family set out for Oklahoma where in 1889 there will be a race to claim land, yet Annie Mae feels they will not make it in time and fears her dreams of living on a beautiful piece of land of her own will be gone.
This book is good for grades 3-4. It was a good book about the process to get into Oklahoma but I feel you did not get to know the characters that well with it being so short. This book genre is historical fiction.
This was a sweet book appropriated for all ages, but recommended for reading levels ages 7-11! I thought this was such a great story about the land run of Oklahoma and makes you realize how much the pioneers had to sacrifice to claim that property! I loved the history at the back sharing more details. Being an Oklahoman, this made me want to drive into Guthrie Oklahoma and find some of the original buildings from the land run
A family traveling to Oklahoma, but then not having enough land for all the new landowners? This I'm sure could be what happened back in the 1880's. With so many people moving at that time there had to be trouble. I really liked this book because it was told through the eyes of Annie Mae. A child not a grownup.
1889, Oklahoma Land Rush. Annie Mae can hardly wait. Finally Oklahoma Territory is to be opened to settlers. Annie Mae and her family, after two years of waiting, must now make the dangerous journey to Oklahoma Territory and then stake their claim.
