4.25stars-KISS OF ENCHANTMENT is the first instalment in Deborah Cooke’s adult DARKFIRE CHRONICLES paranormal/fantasy series, a spin-off from the author’s DRAGON LEGION novellas (The Dragon Legion Collection / Dragonfire 9), set in the DRAGONFIRE world. This is dragon Pyr Orion, and grad student Francesca Marino’s story line. KISS OF ENCHANTMENT can be read as a stand alone but for back story, cohesion and enjoyment, I recommend reading THE DRAGON LEGION COLLECTION.
Told from numerous omniscient third person perspectives including Francesca and Orion, using several timelines, and Greek and Roman mythology, KISS OF ENCHANTMENT follows Orion, a member of the Dragon Legion Pyr, who along with his fellow warriors go where the Darkfire crystal needs them to be. Each member of their group ventures off toward their Firestorm and a new adventure, each is taken to another time and place. 1972 brings together Orion with the woman he believes to be his intended mate but nothing is as it appears to be, and Orion must face down two slayers, who are determined to take what doesn’t belong. Orion’s attraction to Francesca is tempered by secrets from the past, a past that is determined to reclaim a place in the present. What ensues is the building relationship between Orion and Francesca, and the potential fall-out as Orion’s time in the past threatens to destroy the beginnings of a lifelong affair.
The world building continues to focus on the Pyr, their struggle with the group known as the slayers, and the search for their fated mates. As each Firestorm announces the nearness of their mates, the Pry must face off against the slayers, who are determined to destroy the woman chosen by the gods to bring forth the next generation.
The relationship between Orion and Francesca is one of immediate attraction. Orion believes Francesca is his chosen mate but all is not as it is supposed to be as Orion discovers Francesca is hiding a secret, a secret that refuses to remain in the past. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
Several of the original Pyr return as each recognizes the arrival of another Firestorm but each Pyr struggle with the possibility of who or why, fate will threaten the Firestorm in both the past and the present. We are introduced to slayers Magnus Montmorency and Sigmund.
KISS OF ENCHANTMENT is awash in the reimagining of Greek and Roman mythology intertwined with the history of the shapeshifting Pyr. The premise is detailed, complex and entertaining; the characters are magical and charismatic; the romance is subtle and fated.

Orion is one of the Dragon Legion warriors, dragon shifters from the ancient world sent bouncing around through time by the unpredictable force of the Darkfire. They hope they are being sent to the point in time where each can meet his destined mate and complete their firestorm. This is a prequel of sorts to the Dragonfire Chronicles. Orion and Francesca's story takes place in the early 1970's in Italy as Francesca is a grad student working on an archaeological dig.
When Orion is left in this time period by the Darkfire and he feels the spark of a firestorm, he assumes Francesca must be his mate. However, the firestorm isn't quite as expected, and he's not sure if it is completely false or if it is the Darkfire that has made everything so different. The attraction and chemistry between the two are real, but Orion doesn't know if he should commit to Francesca if he isn't certain she is his destined mate. Of course, even in this time period, there are slayers to deal with, so the story is full of action as dragons battle it out.
I like that we are getting more information about the origin of the Dragon Legion warriors and what happened to some of them in the time before the Dragonfire novels. There are also connections to many of the other Pyr dragon shifters so we get to see what they were up to in this time period too.

WOW, WOW, WOW be still my heart! This book is packed with my favorite romance tropes and my love of Greek mythology! I savored this book, reading it slowly and enjoying every minute of it. I was glad I had read quite a few of her previous two series, Dragonfire and Dragons of Incendium as this pulls from both of them and melds the stories into the start of a new spin off series. I am in awe of the amount of research Deb must have done to write this book. It answers so many questions from the previous series' and opens the doors to much more. I adore dragon stories and in my youth I was fascinated by Greek and Roman mythology, so I was in reader heaven.

Separated from his fellow Pyr warriors, Orion is cast through time to meet his destined mate. But destiny has played a cruel trick on Orion…Francesca, the woman who apparently sparked his firestorm, and who he is immediately and intensely attracted to, doesn’t appear to be his mate after all. But the slayers in this time are determined to destroy Francesca. Orion is just as committed to protecting Francesca, no matter the cost. Meanwhile he has to discover why the darkfire has brought him to this time and place.
Ms. Cooke has a lovely writing style and a way of weaving ancient Greek history through this exciting and fascinating story. The world building is wonderful as the reader falls into the story, taking the existence of shape shifting dragons among human civilizations as entirely plausible. This is a worthy start to a new Pyr series and I highly recommend it. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

This was an excellent, well-written book. The way the details all connected together and how everything played out was amazing. This author has a lyrical quality to their writing that makes it lovely to read. I could not put this book down. I loved this book and can't wait for more books by this author.

What a journey Orion and Francesca have been given. Magic, distrust of those around them, a firestorm that is different than any other and a love, hope and prayer that they will be together again. What surprises await them in this journey…grab and enjoy it with them as I did!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I love how this author tells a story. I so enjoyed the uniqueness of the journey throughout this book, how the previous storylines intermixed and brought us to such a beautiful ending and a beginning. Highly recommend anything by this author.
