Falling in love is the easy part…

MIA

I’m not quite sure I’d be standing outside a Krav Maga gym right now if it weren’t for toxic masculinity. From my sleazy boss down, the men in my life don’t have an ounce of chivalry between them — so I figured if you can’t join ‘em, beat ‘em.

Problem is, the last thing I want to do with my sparring partner is punch him in his sexy, brooding face.

Instead, I’m finding myself obsessed with what’s behind that gorgeous but cryptic exterior. I want to find out what makes him tick. I want to watch him come undone…

But it’s been a long time since I’ve trusted anyone. And with good reason.

I came here to learn self-defense — so why are my walls crumbling around me?

SHAWN

These newbie chicks are all the same. Ready to stick it to the patriarchy…for at least fifteen minutes.

But when this wide-eyed and clearly terrified rookie squares off in front of me, I can’t help but be struck by her. Like, literally. In the shin.

And okay, there’s some chemistry there too. Something about Mia’s body makes mine want to misbehave — and that’s the last thing I should be doing with a woman as stunning as her.

Because Mia deserves better than me. Everybody does.

So why is she so hard to push away?

"Love is worth the fight, after all."

I absolutely adored this book. It has all the things you want in a sweet romance: funny banter, broody cinnamon roll MMC, feisty FMC, steamy scenes; and fun side characters.
What I wasn't expecting was the in-depth look into PTSD and anxiety. Both characters deal with past traumas, and Lauren does a great job writing about how these things can affect day to day life for the victims.
Mia & Shawn have incredible chemistry together, and I loved the ways they showed up for each other throughout the story. I can't wait to see what else Lauren will write!

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book was incredible! The spice was hot, the love story honest and realistic, and the characters were ones you could get invested in beyond just a few chapters. I would love a sequel and to see what happens next to Mia and Shawn! I can’t wait to see what this author puts out next! I’m hooked on the Palm Cove series!!

This book was amazing! I’m a sucker for a good love story, but it has to be one with more than just two people who find a happy ending with no conflict or growth. This story features two lovable characters that will make you laugh, cry, and sweat! (Seriously, the spice is 5 stars, and matches the heat of the Florida setting perfectly!) 🥵 I loved getting to know Mia and Shawn together but also their individual paths that lead them to each other. I can’t wait to see what else this author puts out, she’s an automatic buy for me from here on out! 😍

Title: Fight for It
Author: Lauren Greene
Hero/Heroine: Shawn & Mia
Tropes: Grumpy x Sunshine, Touch Her and Die vibes, Sports Romance (Krav Maga),

TW/CW: Mention of sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, descriptions of PTSD, mental health, toxic masculinity, mention of domestic violence, anxiety,

THE GOOD 😀

Roll up roll up folks, I’ve found myself a new indie author and I want to shout about it! I was fully consumed by this story, so much so that I was up until after 1am this morning and I’m not even regretting it.

When her friend fails to show up to a Krav Maga class they agreed to go to together, Mia decides to attend by herself. Stepping so far out of her comfort zone, she doesn’t expect to love the class as much as she does. But that may have something to do with Shawn. Mr Tie Me Up Tie Me Down. I would not have objected to him trying some Krav Maga moves on me, let me tell you.

You know when you see the cover of a book and you think ‘this is going to be a good one’? That was me with Fight for You. The characters, their back stories and just the whole premise of it had me in a chokehold for the last day and a half. Shawn and Mia had both experienced their fair share of heartache and trauma, and I loved seeing their characters grow throughout the story, with them slowly learning to trust in themselves and also their budding relationship. Even though I loved both their characters equally, Mia was the one who really stood out for me. So vulnerable yet at times incredibly tough, she was willing to put herself out there in regards to her relationship with Shawn. Not having had the best experiences previously, she’d finally found someone worth fighting for, and it was a thing of beauty watching her come out of her shell and embrace the new confidence she’d found through Krav Maga.

I’m going to stop gushing now as it’s just getting embarrassing now, but I will just say: if you haven’t already, you really need to read this book. It’s beautiful.

THE BAD ☹️

Mia’s boss. Hated him so much I don’t even want to put his name.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this to read. This is my honest review.

One thing about me is I hate the miscommunication trope. I cannot stand her at all, please be grown ups and talk about it!!

Anyways, I usually like to leave big reviews but I don’t really have many thoughts on this one it was just like fine?? I liked the idea of her learning self defense. I feel the plot took a long time for it to be something and the reasoning behind somethings. Overall it was pretty okay.

Fight For It was so darn good. It instantly drew me in, and I was so engrossed with the story that I was 3/4 of the way through before I realized it. I loved how realistic and relatable the story was to everyday life. I think that was part of the reason I fell in love with the characters so quickly as well. Mia decides to join Krav Maga in hopes of helping her anxiety, plus helping her with her level of comfort zones. She meets Shawn, who is the assistant teacher. While there are some sparks and attraction, Shawn storms out so it's kind of left at that until the next class. Overtime, they talk and reveal what makes them the way that they are, all while falling for one another. I loved these beautifully flawed characters so much. Oh, and the spice, holy cow. I'm so excited to see what happens in Palm Cove next.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Fight for it by Lauren Greene was such an incredible read. From start to finish the story grabs you and keeps your focus until the end. The story was so realistic and the struggles that the characters went through were some things that unfortunately do happen to a lot of people. I could relate so much to Mia on some of her struggles and I loved that no matter what she always fought to continue on with her life and see the light in the darkness. Shawn was such an amazing love interest and his past truly broke my heart, he went through so much but still choose love and that is truly a brave choice. This book gives us a story about two people who have gone through so much, two people that even though are not perfect in any way but they still found each other and decided to fight their demons for the sake of themselves and their love. Two people that helped each other be better everyday by just being there for each other. It truly warmed my heart and this is one of the most realistic books I have read. I honestly cannot wait to continue reading what other stories this author creates. And I hope that in the future we get a story of Olivia because I just loved her character and how she is turning her life for the better. I absolutely recommend this book and author to everyone.

Please note that this book deals with and mentions some heavy themes that could be triggering to some people.

I received this book as an ARC for an voluntary review. This book was an amazing read! I read the whole book in a day, I literally couldn’t put it down! There was slow burn, there was spice, there was a back story from both characters that was similar but different at the same time and it made the story that much better. Make sure you read the content warning but I will say, the way the author portrayed the “triggers” is in a way that was very tasteful & not cringy!

I fell in love with these characters immediately! It’s such a realistic love story about 2 people who are far from perfect, but find out they’re perfect for each other! I read this book so fast because I couldn’t put it down! The spice was 5 peppers!!! I can’t wait to read the next 2 books of this trilogy to find out what’s in store for the people of Palm Cove!

I really enjoyed this book.
The love story is on point and just the right amount of spice.
The growth of many of the characters dealing with trauma, ptsd, workplace bullying to a degree was intriguing and well planned by the author as it all felt realistic whilst I was in the moment reading it.
I found the storyline interesting and was captivated throughout the whole book.
I would definitely recommend reading this book and look forward to reading the rest of the series

What did I even just read? The red flags here are endless but include terrible takes on sexual assault, safety, survivors, women in general, and relationships.

First and foremost, what is it with all these mustache twirling corporate baddies? I must have read 5 books in the last 2 months that involve these in your face office villains. I am begging people to stick with what you know. Based off what I read, this author has never in her life worked in an office setting. Hell, after reading this I’m pretty sure she’s never set foot in an office in her life, period. Let me clear this up for you: the gross men in offices are never this out in the open. They’re subtle and far more sinister.

Then the weak FMC. Dear god! I wanted to strangle her half the time. I cannot stand weak characters and this was the weakest I’ve read in a while. Also who the hell quits their job in a fit of pique and doesn’t freak out even a little about it? Not even a “oh god, what did I just do? Do I have enough money set aside for this?” Nothing. More worried about her ex than her own life.

Then the MMC. Like I get it, he went through something insane and is traumatized. But all the back and forth? Then telling the full story in the last paragraphs before the epilogue? What terrible writing.

And please do not get me started on all the women whose personalities are basically their victimhood. Please for the love of god, quit using rape as characterization.

Spice level: 4 (More than 3 open door scenes, “came for the smut, stayed for the plot” vibes.)

Summary time!

Fight For It is the first book in the Palm Cove series by Lauren Greene. Starring Mia, an anxiety-ridden, number loving accountant who just wants to feel prepared, and Shawn, a brooding carpenter with a penchant for Krav Maga, this book deals heavily with trauma and mental health.

One missing partner leads Mia to taking her first self-defense class by herself. Her best friend, Kendhal, sends her love, but just isn’t ready for class, leaving Mia on her own against the hot assistant teacher, Shawn. Things seem to be going well, until Mia ends up on her back from the force of Shawn’s demo kick. Seeing her sprawled on the floor, Shawn retreats into himself to a moment where his life changed. But this first class leads both Mia and Shawn on a journey towards healing that they both desperately need.

Some thoughts, anyone???

Mia and Shawn as a couple were so cute. The initial assumption on Shawn’s part was extremely characteristic for an assistant Krav teacher, especially for a beginner class. But he had a pretty decent character development throughout the book, despite my aggravation with him to just open up to Mia. I loved his complete worship of Mia and his desire to see her thrive.

For the most part, I was reading through the story pretty easy. There were times where I wanted to shake Shawn out of his own pity party, but what character doesn’t make readers want to throttle them at some point? Mia’s growth in terms of confidence was so well done, and honestly, Lauren Greene’s writing was superb.

I read this on my Kindle app, so I could see the lines that others have highlighted and I was so glad that people connected with the same lines I did. One of my favorite quotes comes from the last chapter before the epilogue and it will probably make my rooster for quotes I think about often.

One negative (An honest review wouldn’t be an honest review without one)
Now this might just be me and the amount of open-door romances I have read in the last few days, but I definitely found myself more invested in the plot than in the smut scenes. More than once my eyes drifted over the sex scenes to get to the emotional connection that I wanted from Mia and Shawn. Lauren always delivered, giving Mia and Shawn a good time to relax and think about their relationship after sexy time. BUt yeah, that might just be me though so is it a negative, or will I just have to re-read this when I remove myself from romance novels for a week and then I’ll think differently?

Who knows… But if that is the case, I’ll update my reviews.

THOUGHTS: Let me start by introducing you to the Krav Maga Romance Era. We're making it official, right here right now. Love the character growth for Mia and Shawn! Without it, I think their relationship would have been a shitshow. For Lauren Greene's debut novel, she kicked ass! I loved the moment Mia stood up to her disgusting boss. Lungberg and Sanders (man who assaulted Mia at the golf event) are top tier douche canoes. The Krav family steals your heart from the beginning and only grows in the times they go above and beyond for one another.

3.5 stars rounded up to four.

I received this as an ARC and I am leaving a honest, voluntary review.

Fight for it follows Mia, who decides to join a Krav Maga class to help with finding ways out of her comfort zone. She has anxiety and thinks the workout might be good for that too. In her first class, she meets Shawn, the assistant teacher. It’s not a meet-cute per se, since Shawn ends up storming out of the class, but the first sparks of interest are already there. They meet again in the next class and slowly begin to grow closer romantically as well.

As the two get to know one another, we are revealed more of their pasts and what haunts them. The book definitely deals in heavy subjects matters in both physical sense and the emotional turmoil that is left behind. It doesn’t go too deep into them but enough that you’ll know they are still affected by them. And there are several of the heavy things in play, including anxiety and PTSD.

I liked Mia and Shawn as characters. They are clearly flawed and have history that has shaped who they are now. Especially Shawn could’ve used a couple of nudges to get out of his head since he seemed to act based on his feelings and doesn’t stop to think of his actions. But I did like that it wasn’t cut and dry, since what he deals with his PTSD isn’t easy. I always like it when the messiness is explored and not swept away the first second a couple gets together. But the whiplash I got from some of his mood swings was a lot to take in.

The general plot is okay good as well and it was easy to follow along. There were a couple of loose threads that got solved way too quickly given the initial weight of them early in the book but it didn’t take away from the overall experience. I maybe would’ve liked to have seen more depth to them or maybe dropped one of them out completely to give time for the others. Now some of the b-plots felt a bit redundant. I did like the Krav angle, it was nice and refreshing! And the found family aspect of the gym members was lovely.

When I put the book down, I smiled and was happy I’d read it. I did like the story, Mia and Shawn and it’s a good debut novel.

I really, really enjoyed this book. And I'm super glad this is just the first in a series. I don't know who the next books will be about, but I'm really hoping there's one for Olivia and Ken Doll.

Ok, back to this book. I felt like the characters were just so raw. Especially toward the end when Mia is hit with so many things that just really challenged so many beliefs she held throughout her whole life. And Shawn. Ugh, that poor man. We get hints about what led to his PTSD, but when we find out the whole story, no wonder he has such a hatred for himself (undeserved, but if you've dealt with mental illness in any capacity, it's easy to understand) and why he keeps trying to push Mia away. Now, Mia's skeevy boss. That man had me making so many faces whenever he was brought up. Hell, I'm even making one right now just writing this. Sadly there are still way too many men that hold these same thoughts and feelings toward women and it just makes my heart hurt a bit.

I'd highly suggest picking this book up. While there is some spice, which I pretty much never discourage, this book is so much more than that. It does deal with some pretty heavy topics...sexual assault and murder most heavily, but if those are topics you can handle, this is a must read. It's out 𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺 and it's on #KU!

“Oh God, why was I allowed to speak? I should become mute. I should’ve taken a vow of silence and maybe joined a convent while I was at it.”
-Mia

This book had me giggling like a toddler being tickle attacked to holding my breath in anticipation. It was funny, sweet, and tragic. All in good story telling ways.

How Mia was written as meek was the type that makes me love her. She isn’t a damsel in distress with no voice or thoughts of her own. Mia likes being unseen and would rather take care of those she loves first before speaking out or taking care of herself. That is something that needs to be addressed on a personal level, but it was nice to see this type of persona as to those that show the quite and timid girl who always needs a savior. Mia’s growth from scared of the world to “feisty girl” makes my heart happy.

Having a character that regularly talks about seeing a therapist, not just talks about having one in passing, is a new character trait for me to read about. Most characters who are in therapy just mention having one then move on. For Shawn to talk about therapy, use coping strategies his therapist has taught him, and think to reach out to his therapist (even if he doesn’t) is almost refreshing. There are still too many unflattering stigmas about therapy out there and this was a nice twist.

I went into this book sort of blind. I had access to the blurb and details but I definitely picked it up because of the cover. I was pleasantly surprised by this book and really enjoyed it! I loved the chemistry and the spice in this book and it was definitely a sweet romance. This book is so much more than that though. Mia and Shawn are really amazing characters with a lot of depth and their love story is incredibly realistic and mature. One of my favorite things about this book is how protective Shawn is. Definitely a top tier book boyfriend. Throughout the story, Lauren Greene addresses a lot of important topics but what I really appreciate about this book is the message of body positivity. I loved the growth of each characters and I found it to be very well written. This is definitely a book I recommend for anyone looking for their next romance with an important message.

The book Fight For It follows Mia and socially anxious account who signs up for self defense classes. During this classes, she meets Shawn who assist in teaching these classes. They were both attracted to each other from the beginning, but had their own internal struggles.

This book sheds light on PTSD, SA and the struggles that victims face after these situations. Both Mia and Shawn had dealt with a sort of SA occurring in their life. I honestly liked this book. I thought that Mia and Shawn’s sorry was very cute. The patience that Mia showed for Shawn was so sweet.

I do feel that there was some storylines in this book that didn’t fully unravel for us. I would have love to see more closure with Mia’s family, but that storyline was swept under the ru, in my eyes.

All in all, I would recommend this book as the overall storyline with Mia and Shawn is great!

Mia joins a Krav Maga class to get out of her comfort zone and take control of her anxiety. She meets Shawn, a Krav gym regular, and sparks fly pretty fast after. As the two get to know one another, we see their anxieties also creep up. Both have PTSD for different reasons but Shawn’s is debilitating. Can Mia and Shawn fight their anxieties and be together?

I liked both Mia and Shawn. I thought Lauren Greene did a great job writing characters that had PTSD and dealt with it in various aspects. I think both backstories were important to the storyline. And the spiciness between Mia and Shawn was delicious. The way Shawn was when he saw Mia was lovely. She was worried about imperfections and he was infatuated from the start.

Krav Maga and steamy scenes? Sign me in!
This is the perfect rom-com. It has everything!
Grumpy-sunshine, sport romance, some deep topics, some heavy flirting, banter, an event they attend (but with a twist), third act break up ...
I was super excited to read the famous bench scene, and it didn't disappoint.
It's a light reading even when it contains such important and delicate topics, but they are conducted in the best way posible.
The love story was not too cheesy, they are both normal people with their traumas and problemas, but they find each other in the best way and the right moment. It was beautiful how natural everything was between them.
I really enjoyed this book. And I liked a lot the writing of the author.

This was one of the cutest, most beautiful romcom I’ve read in a while. I love taking a break from my usual dark romances to read sweet romcoms, especially involving sports. I loved this book, I could not put it down and I’m so happy I found a video of it on TikTok and decided to try it. It was sweet but oh so heartbreaking. These characters went through so much and had so much trauma that neither of them knew how to move past it, but they sure tried.

Mia and Shawn. These two.. they had so much from their past holding them back that they never realized how free it would be to just let it go and open up to someone. I loved their chemistry, their energy and love, it was so beautiful. I do, however, wish Mia would’ve made Shawn grovel a bit more, even though I knew why he did what he did. Anyway, amazing story, loved the beginning of this series and I’ll definitely read the next books on it.

A romance but a whole hell of a lot more as well. The relationship between Shawn and Mia is the heart of this story. A slow burn love, these two both had their issues to overcome. There’s great mental health rep with Shaun suffering PTSD and Mia having anxiety. They meet when Mia goes out of her comfort zone and joins a Krav Maga class where Shawn is the assistant teacher. The whole class is a found family of sorts for Mia who is not close to her parents.
There’s great character arcs for both Mia and Shawn. We see Mia grow more comfortable in her skin and become more confident and Shawn slowly begins to deal with the guilt he suffers from an earlier crime.

TW for talk of SA, attempted SA, domestic violence, rape. The author deals with each subject sensitively and nothing is too graphic.

Thank you Lauren, via Romance me with books for the arc.

From the first page to the last, I absolutely LOVED this romance! It was a quick read, in the best possible way; I could not put it down! The main setting--a Krav Maga gym in sunny Florida--was engaging and unique. I adored the three-dimensional characters, Mia and Shawn, and found myself alternately cheering for them, wanting to hug them, and wishing I could hang out and eat lasagna with them! 😍 The multiple perspectives and real-life issues gave an unexpected and welcome depth to this fun and super sexy read. I appreciated the author's care in exploring sensitive topics. Cannot wait to read the next book in this series!

I loved this little book! These characters were adorable! Their flirting and banter... 🥵

Mia joins a Krav Maga gym and meets Shawn, the assistant instructor she's paired with. The two of them grow closer as they navigate work, life, home, family, and mental health.

Mia has anxiety and Shawn has ptsd. I thought the daily life and struggles of these two was really well captured and their support for each other... 😭❤️ I loved them individually and together. I especially loved Mia's growth! Yes, girl! Know. Your. Worth. 🙌

"I'll never be able to look at lasagna without getting pissed again." Iykyk 😆🥵

"I've never been so turned on while getting my ass kicked."

Now wondering if I should find a krav maga gym to join... 🤔🔥🙃

I received this book as an ARC and I’m glad I got the chance to read it. I was so invested and couldn’t stop reading.

The main characters Mia and Shawn were amazing together and I loved how they helped each other out through their struggles. Their back stories were quite emotional and I could relate so much with Mia.

This book deals with some realistic topics which happen to lots of people and I was glad to see how the characters helped each other deal with these.

I really enjoyed reading this book and hope we can get a book on Mia’s sister and best friend! I will definitely be looking out for more books by Lauren Greene!

Amazing dual narration from Branden Davis-Butler and Von Necros, who just bring the emotions, characters and hot moments to your ears. Perfect

Mia finds her self alone outside the gym, when her friend fails to show up to a Krav Maga class they agreed to go to together, So taking a deep breath Mia decides to attend by herself. Complete coming to a surprise to herself Mia finds herself liking the class. It could that be something to do with Shawn. Shawn and Mia have both experienced their share of heartache and trauma. But together wow. This book has humour, some drama, and some hot moments.

This was a really cute romcom! I loved the relationship and how they grew together and both had their own issues to overcome within the relationship. I enjoyed the gound family aspect as well!

This was a sweet read! I was a little confused at the two month jump right after they reconciled, but I guess nothing else really needed to be discussed that couldn't be covered in the flash forward chapters. I was also a little confused that I had made it so far before his past was revealed, but it made sense for her character to forgive him as quickly as she did. The spice was good and added to their story as well! It was well done and hot and cathartic!

This was a book that was hard to put down! Such a unique blend of romance, trauma, unwavering support, and things worth fighting for. So relatable because so many of us have a person we didn't initially care for that we then come to adore. There was just enough spice and steam, and you can't stop rooting for Shawn and Mia with all of their chemistry. It's not often you read a book where you want to be friends with the main characters, but this was definitely one of them! Cannot wait to see what Lauren Greene has coming next!
