Joy needs a deal with a demon to bring an end the man who’d ruined her life. Malachi needs a deal with a human so he can remain in the mortal realm, far from the sentries looking to drag him back to his sect in hell.
It’s a match seemingly made in heaven. Except, Malachi doesn’t expect Joy’s thirst for vengeance to taste so sweet, and Joy doesn’t expect a freaking demon to revive everything in her she’d thought long-dead.
After the deal is struck, and the contract has some to an end, they both realise that one contract will not nearly be enough.

I loved that this was a monster romance set in Nigeria. Plus we have a heroine who’s seeking revenge on the man that assaulted her through the help of a cinnamon-roll demon.
As cute as this was, trigger warnings for sexual assault on the heroine and a friend of hers. There are some flashback scenes to what occurred and it was somewhat uncomfortable to read, but the author handled it well.
~I want to preface by saying this book has some heavy aspects and discussions throughout that may be triggering to some, don't go into this book blindly, look at the author's trigger warnings. That being said, I absolutely loved this book and the dynamics between the two MCs.
This follows Joy, a woman who is struggling to get back to normal after her life has been completely disheveled. Despite still struggling, Joy is determined to get revenge on the man that caused her suffering; to do so, she summons a demon to help her kill him. The demon, Malachi, agrees to help her make the murder look like an accident in return for just a drop of her blood, she readily agrees. The two go about haunting the man before they go through with killing him, as they enact the plan; Joy and Malachi get close and quickly succumb to their attraction.
This is a revenge story turned spicy and sweet. Malachi and Joy were so fun and in tune, they fit each other so well. I loved the way Joy took control and gained back her confidence, Malachi was happy to be dominated and worship Joy the way she needed and wanted. While this book deals with some heavy topics, I feel like it was done very well and fit with the story. I absolutely can't wait to read more from Viano Oniomoh!
3 ⭐️ for now…I’m not exactly sure how to react to this one. It was meant to be a fun, quick read and my first time trying a proper demon/monster romance. But it definitely had some more emotion I wasn’t expecting. This was likely a fault on my part cause I should have read the TWs and other reviews properly. So I don’t know if it’s exactly fair to penalise it.
TW: SA
The story opens up with a real badass MC, Joy, who summons a demon to get revenge on her abuser. Joy and her demon Malachi, make a deal and of course develop these strong intense feelings for each other. It’s a WHOLE LOT OF SMUT and insta lust, which I was semi okay with. It’s to be expected with these kind of short and spicy monster romances.
It’s told in third person from both sides.
What I liked: - its set in NIGERIA 🇳🇬🥹❤️ with a lot of references to life there. Including reference to the Isoko culture and traditions. I don’t know why I was shocked to see this kind of story take place in such a reserved west African country but I LOVED IT AND APPRECIATED IT SO MUCH 💗 especially with what’s going on in the real world with Bob Risky, a trans Nigerian woman and trans rights. (in case you couldn’t tell, I’m also Nigerian hahah 😂).
- Malachi, our demon, is a CUTIE! A proper lovers boy. There’s no moral greyness there and he’s just too sweet. 🥹💗 he went through a lot to escape hell and get into the mortal plane.
- There is an active attempt to be inclusive. Characters are referred to as ‘they’ until they confirm their pronouns. Our FMC and MMC confirm their pronouns are she/her and he/him but I thought that was really cool. Especially when the story is set in Nigeria.
- Joy is a FIGHTER. But not because she had to be ‘strong’. She’s a fighter cause she recognised her hurt and her pain and allowed herself to be ANGRY!! She didn’t have to offer forgiveness or be the bigger person. NOPE. she wanted bloody revenge. And it was BEAUTIFUL 🔥😍 ➡️
“she didn’t want to be strong anymore. She wanted to be hurt. She wanted to be fucking furious.”
I really appreciated this message. More than I could put into words ❤️
What I didn’t like:
This is completely my fault I know!! But I wished for a bit more substance. And I know that’s stupid because this is a spicy monster novella…I just get lost sometimes when it’s all smut. But again, that’s my issue because I probably just need to be in the mood for that type on binge reading.
Overall I still enjoyed the book and its message. Sign me up to any story where the woman is bloodthirsty and set on seeking a brutal revenge with a hot demon 🔪🔥🏋🏾♀️
—————————— I need several fun, quick pallet cleansers after Crescent City 3 and book 1 of the new Powerless series…hope this cures me of my book hangover 🤞🏾
While it was great fun it was also pretty heavy so here’s the link via the author for content warnings! I’d check them out before starting 💜 https://www.vianooniomoh.com/extras
I absolutely loved this. It was miles above some of the mainstream monsterfucking out there; Nigerian setting and cultural details, a fantastic revenge plot, a very sexy true-form, tailed demon the entire time. It was steamy and soft and I loved it.
I came for the beautiful cover and promise of a revenge story and was pleasantly surprised by romance between a woman on her path of vengeance and the demon she has summoned to help make it happen.
Joy and Malachi.
Wow.
With a visceral backstory and painful motivation to summon Malachi in the first place, Joy is a complex yet determined heroine in this story and she is perfectly matched by the softer demon, Malachi, with a dark past of his own.
To watch a woman be loved for her bloodthirsty nature was riveting and the steamy chemistry radiating off of this couple is unmatched.
This book is dark but it’s sweet moments of these two watching cartoons on the couch and joining in moments of emotional intimacy cut through the heavy subject matter with ease.
The moment I started this book, I couldn’t bring myself to stop. It was the last thing I read before passing out last night and the first thing on my mind to finish when I woke up this morning.
I’m in love.
CW: references to & descriptions of past rape (including childhood sexual abuse + incest), PTSD and recurring descriptions of rape-related trauma, explicit sexual content, murder, stalking, brief moment of ritual-related self-harm, multiple descriptions of past experiences of victim blaming, death (including death by terminal illness), dead loved ones, grief
I COULDN'T RATE THIS 😭😭😭 was this 5 star or 1 star i don't know 😭
i hated some pop culture things and also it has some heavy contents(rape) so i skipped those scenes because i can't possible stomach
BUT ALSO he was the sweetest demon and his backstory was sad and i loved them together they were absolute the best
but the epilogue 😭😭😭😭 it was a jumpscare honestly i know she was the dominant one in their relationship but i wasn't expecting THAT
anyways i really can't give this a rate but also i don't regret reading 👍🏼
plus can we get a book about her aunt because she makes a deal with a demon about killing her husband in exchange of her soul and then they become lovers???? aunty slayed💅🏽
5 ⭐️ The best paranormal/monster romance novella I've ever read!
Female Revenge stories are not my usual type of read. I'm so absolutely aware that the world is unfair and downright abusive towards women, that I don't like to insert myself in those kinds of narratives when they're fiction. If I wanted to wallow in the fact that the patriarchy is ruining our lives, I'd watch the news.
But this book... I'm sure it's just because it has a hot af demon in it, but I could read a thousand iterations of this story and never get bored. I just know it. I loved Joy, her strength, resilience and desire to take down the man that S.A. her. She's flawless. There are so many TW to be taken into account before reading this book that it can seem a bit overwhelming. I'm so glad I pushed through them, though. Also, I'm pretty sure I enjoyed this book because she manages to get said revenge. Real life is absolutely not like that.
Another thing I adored here is that this novella takes place in Nigeria, and it's written by a Nigerian author. It felt so amazing to read and get glimpses of the life, culture and traditions. I really do need to find more books set and written by authors outside of America and Europe. I usually end up loving them!
Sometimes all I really need is to read books about women becoming unhinged and stealthily plotting the murder of their r*pist with the help a demon... only for them to then falling in love with said demon. What can I say? Malachi was perfect!
Joy and Malachi are gonna live in my head rent free. I adored this. Malachi was the sweetest, touch-starved, slightly submissive cinnamon roll demon who lived for Joy's bloodthirst, and I loved him for it. His backstory was more prevalent than I expected, and I loved how that added context elevated his character beyond "hot big purple demon". Joy...that's my girl. First of all she's a bi Black woman who's fat and TALL (a 6 ft FMC!! imagine!!), so I was already living for it. And while she came in on a mission to get vengeance, I also loved how much she cared for Malachi and didn't want to take complete control over him. Like other reviewers thankfully said, this does deal heavily w/ rape and the resulting trauma. And that aspect of the story is more prevalent/emotional than the cover would suggest. I thought it was handled well, nothing too gratuitous, but it's something to keep in mind. The revenge component was very satisfying, definitely a "good for her" vibe.
Their emotional connection was also stronger than I anticipated! I loved seeing how safe yet empowered Malachi made Joy feel, and how Malachi was able to receive the affection he'd been lacking. The steam was excellent, some of the sexiest scenes I've read in a minute. It had this hint of desperation and longing that was top tier while also really showcasing the MC's chemistry. The moments of slight femdom (and the pegging!!) were also perfection and really fit well with their characterization.
There was some writing nitpicks I had, particularly in terms of the insta-lust, and I could've used one less sex scene for a touch more romantic development. I know this is more on the erotica side but it incorporated more emotional connection than I expected soooo idk I found myself wanting a little more lol
This will definitely not be my last book by Viano Oniomoh, this gave exactly what it needed to give
“Joy had known then, there was only one of two ways this was going to end. With her death. Or with his.”
“She souldve-she should’ve-she should’ve”
“I wish I could haunt him in his dreams like he’s been haunting mine. How perfect would be it be when he wakes up, thinking he’s safe, only to see me standing right here in his bedroom”.
“Of course she was glowing; killing the man who’d raped you and fucking the sexy demon who helped you to get away with it would probably do that to a person.”
The topics discussed in this book are heavy, but this also somehow felt like a cozy comfort read to me? I had such a good time! First of all, LOVED that this is set in Nigeria. So cool. Joy is badass, 6ft tall, and, to quote her, “deliciously fat”. She can step on me *anytime* she wants tbh. And Malachi?? He is such a good boy🥵
“Sweet, murderous Joy, allow me to worship you.”
Listen, the smut is hot as hell, the story is compelling, and all the characters (yes even the side characters) were interesting. Overall a stellar read! I was giggling and kicking my feet the entire time honestly.
“Are you begging to be punished, demon boy?”
“What if I am, little tiger?” Malachi husked against her throat.
Two of my favorite things in one: a character getting the vengeance she deserves, and a man obsessed with his woman. My only complaint is that I wanted it to be so much longer.
Seeing a man being submissive was a nice change (and definitely another thing that I love), and it was very interesting to see more than one demon falling and staying with the human who summoned them.
The story is set in Nigeria, which is amazing considering most of the contemporary monster romance books are set in the US, and even though Malachi is a demon, he's still a Black man (we have hints of it in his demon form, but we also see him in human form), so this is 100% a full black monster romance.
I'm so excited for the next book in this series, as well as any other book by this author.
Representation: black bisexual plus size female main character, pansexual male demon love interest.
Content Warnings: mentions and descriptions of past sexual assault, discussions and depictions of murder, references to slavery and imprisonment (as a past event), religious imagery, trauma, PTSD, blood drinking, violence, gore, dominance/submission, references to a main character being drugged at a bar (as a past event), loss of parents via a plane crash (as a past event), mention of a hysterectomy in relation to debilitating fibroids, explicit sex scenes.
This book was the epitome of righteous dark feminine rage and dealt with some serious trauma. Joy was vicious but compassionate towards all but the truly evil people in the world. Her catch phrase, delicious, was funny but appropriate. Malachi was precious AF; and absolute golden retriever cinnamon roll consent king with his own trauma to work through. They had a fast burn relationship and supported one another through thick and thin. The good boy femme dom praise was on point and so appropriate given Joy’s need for control and Malachi’s need for approval. I adored this book and look forward to the next one!
Spice: 5/5
Triggers: Mentions, discussions, references, and descriptions of sexual assault (as a past event); mention of sexual assault of child (past event); mentions, discussions, and depictions of murder; mentions, discussions, and references to abduction, slavery, and imprisonment (as a past event); religious imagery; trauma; PTSD; blood drinking; violence; gore; (blink and you’ll miss it) dominance/submission; references to a main character being drugged at a bar (as a past event); loss of parents via a plane crash (as a past event); mention of a hysterectomy in relation to debilitating fibroids; and explicit sex scenes.
This was a very sweet little novella about which I don’t have a whole lot to say! The page count definitely limits the depth of the relationship and speeds up the pace of its development, but it’s a really cute romance between two likeable characters who are fun to read about together. It also happens to be free of all of the specific romance tropes that often bother me, so ymmv. There’s a lot of smut, which is not something I’m super interested in generally speaking, but I think the sex is well-written and I really appreciate the emphasis on reclaiming personal sexuality, enthusiastic consent, and healthy power play. It deals sensitively with exploring the female character’s sexual assault, but this element is slightly diminished for me because of how completely straight it plays the violent revenge plotline without any interest in exploring the morality or possible complicated feelings involved there at all. I think the only other thing I’d mention is that I really enjoyed the Nigerian setting. If any/all of these things sound like something you’re interested in, I say check it out!!
I loved pretty much everything about this book. A monster romance set in Nigeria in which the FMC Joy summons a (sexy) demon to help her cover up a revenge unaliving.
This book was so beautifully written, it is alternatingly heart-wrenching, and witty, and hot. The only thing I could possibly ask for would be a longer and more painful revenge. I think I have to go read everything Viano Oniomoh has written now.
Heavy topic so check the trigger warnings. But I enjoyed the characters and that the setting was in Nigeria. Most smutty demon fics keep it very Eurocentric.
If I had a nickel for every book I’ve read where a demon gets pegged, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice right?
This was…. So good. Although the story is very heavy dealing with some very heavy topics (check trigger warnings) this was such a good read about a woman getting her power back and gaining something else in return.
5⭐️ I NEED a demon boyfriend! | tropes: demon x human, femdom, revenge | high steam | physical
"The morally upright Christian she'd been raised to be protested: Isn't death too harsh a punishment for a rapist? For any criminal, for that matter? But the other side of her —the side that clawed for justice- for vengeance-screamed: death is not enough."
Overall Thoughts I loved this book a lot! I loved seeing Joy's journey and getting her revenge. Malachi was a green flag from top to bottom! I loved their chemistry and build to them completely falling for each other.
Sweet Vengeance by Viano Oniomoh Paranormal MF Dark and Delicious Summoned Demon Vengeance Cinnamon Roll MMC Lite-Femdom Good Boy, Sweet Smut
This was a complete random book pick and I’m glad I found it. I was in a slump, looking for a short read to hopefully boost me out of my slump and this did it.
Joy is female rage personified. Justified. She is the survivor of SA and wants nothing but viscous revenge on the one that harmed her. She is angry AF and it’s wonderful to see. Joy straight up wants to 🔪him, and to do that, she summons a demon for help. Malachi is a demon that has a sad back story and is very touch starved. He needs humans to make deals with him or trade their souls so he can stay tethered to the mortal world. This demon winds up being the perfect balance of sweet and sexy.
This is a shorter story, so everything happens fairly quickly but it doesn’t feel too rushed. You feel their connection and even though it is insta-lust, the pacing of the spice is well done, and boy it’s 🥵. Really enjoyed this one and will be adding the next book to my TBR.
Check the TW because there is some heavy content, and some dark and graphic scenes.
Trigger warning? Yes. Included in book, and considering this is a dark romance please read them.
Safety? FMC was raped. The plot revolves around her killing her rapist. MMC is a virgin.
My thoughts? This book took me a bit to get throughout, but it wasn’t because of it being bad. It’s because of the dark nature of the story revolving around her actively planning to kill her rapist (which she does). Intertwined with that is a love story between the FMC (a human) and the MMC (a demon). It’s a story of trust being rebuilt, firsts being discovered, and consent at its forefront. Overall, I freaking love this book.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
If I'd been told, in all the recommendations online for this novel, that it's essentially a story of a woman who summons a demon to kill her rapist, I would've picked this up instantaneously. So, now, I'm telling you: this is a novel about a woman who summons a demon to kill her rapist and ends up hooking up with the demon and also killing her rapist.
This was so freakin sexy. Joy reclaimed her, well, Joy in the best way possible, and wow, Malachi, so very down bad for her, and gleefully so. Do you know how iconic it is to bend a demon over???? Have him begging to worship you? Have him a moaning, whimpering mess?
Yeah Joy was simply that girl.
Also the respect they had for each other in the bedroom was one of the sexiest parts of the whole book. I thought it was so cute when they *spoiler* giggled for a second while figuring out the logistics of getting that big ass wang to fit. And he did! And she took it like a champ! And so did he!!!! Like GIRL!!!
I’m shook.
MAJOR TW: rape, murder. it gets a bit heavy than i’m sure a lot of people expect.
Oh this was an interesting journey. SA survivor wanting revenge and solicits the help of a demon. This was very much about justified rage and healing through revenge. Please be aware there are flashbacks to the assault. Oh the relationship bet Joy and Malachi was so precious even though they were brought together under impossible circumstances. Even Malachi's backstory was heartbreaking. He needed to this connection as much as Joy needed this revenge. The tenderness (for a demon) to help Joy enjoy being intimate again was really special. This was unexpected but quite a fun read with very dark themes. Protect Malachi at all costs 😘
CN: rape, PTSD/flashbacks, panic attack, roofieing, murder, plane crash parental death, family outcasts, victim blaming, power outages, hysterectomy and fibroids
Definitely look up the trigger warnings for this one.
This was delicious! I loved it. The story was engaging and surprisingly hard-hitting for being less than 200 pages long. It is a bloody revenge story that becomes surprisingly sweet as Joy and Malachi get to know each other. It is fluffy, it is smutty, it is exactly what I wanted when I read it.
TW: Mentions, discussions, references, and descriptions of sexual assault (as a past event). Please take heed of the TW. The reason for Joy's need to summon the demon for revenge did make this a bit heavy but the author handled the balance really well.
now...WHEW! This book was simply delicious!! Joy using Malachi to exact her revenge. Malachi basically going all heart eyes for Joy in all her sexy murderous glory. These two were burning up the page. Seriously...this one is hot and sexy.
I would give this one 10/10 if I could cuz !!!!! delicious truly does sum it up my friends.
