Any Given Spring Morning

Rate this book
More than just a how to on turkey calls and finding turkeys across the southeast, the book dives into the actual mindset of a turkey hunter on any given spring morning. A quick read, and intensionally sized to carry in a turkey vest, these pages were truly crafted for those who get it.

Retaining an old-school train of thought, relatable humor, and an undeniable passion for the outdoors, the eleven chapters constructing Any Given Spring Morning are suitable for all outdoor men and women, regardless of age or experience.

The series of stories and life lessons are straight from the spring turkey woods, as the author has traveled all across the southeastern US, from Mississippi to Virginia, and from Alabama to Michigan, in pursuit of wild game across the United States. Along the way, he has had some wild encounters to say the least and has quite a few tales to tell about them.

Memories of his father revive in chapters as he explains wise words from old pro turkey hunters he has met over the years. With a primary focus on woodsmanship and an undoubted appreciation for the wild turkey, the enclosed stories, tips, how to, and general deer camp conversations will cover plenty of peaks and valleys that anyone who enjoys hunting may relive and relate. Memories included in such insight are how to find turkeys on public land and private timber, how to call turkeys, how to prepare them for meals, and surely how to pursue their harvest. There is an entire chapter dedicated to little things you should know before trying your hand in the sport.

The philosophy and traditions you will find similar to the brand founded by the author, Spring Legion Turkey Hunting, which brings a variety of old school thinking to a new age of hunters through podcasts, social media, and collectable literature.

What a great read. Ballad of a Turkey Hunter was a great book with stories and relatable experiences about turkey hunting. While this one felt like more of the same, it drove that nail a little deeper and had more to offer regarding turkey hunting tactics, personal advice, and jokes. I hope there will be a third book!
