Written for swing traders, day traders, active investors, and students of technical analysis, this book shows how Anchored VWAP can be applied across different market conditions and timeframes. Brian avoids unnecessary jargon and uses real market examples to demonstrate both successful and failed trade setups.

Even I didn't like and rated his old book "technical using multiple timeframe" one ⭐, I started to read his latest book since it's a popular book about vwap.

I read upto 60+ pages with more patience than I read his 1st book. Still I couldn't tolerate author's way of writing and explaining or idk what to call this 😤.

He said "VWAP is simple. It can be over-complicated by people who try to be “smarter” ... I wrote this book as an easy-to-understand manual on how to use this...."

But he is the one making it complex 😒.

Yes he might be explaining in depth about vwap and all including psychology behind it or whatever.

But to me, his both books are tedious to read that I don't even want to skim through this 😩. (I read around 10 books about stock market including very small to medium books, but none of them made me feel this way. Idk what's the reason 😮‍💨)

One of the most critical aspects of trading is finding the right entry point. While many advocate for capturing the 'meat' of the trend rather than perfect timing at the beginning, experience shows that entering mid-trend or when the trend is already well underway can significantly increase the risk. The challenge lies in identifying the middle of the trend, which could easily turn out to be the peak just before a reversal.

When the trend is over-extended, buying into it transforms the risk from a manageable 50% to a daunting 90%. This becomes evident when using a 10-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA), which often acts as the trend's support during consolidations before a bounce. The risk amplifies when the price is significantly above these 'resting areas' of stock support, such as the 21-day and 10-day moving averages. For a speculator, the smarter strategy is to anticipate market resets and wait for confirmations of new entries rather than chasing an over-extended trend.

Is there an efficient way to pinpoint the perfect entry before it becomes over-extended? I believe the Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) offers a solution. When used alongside moving averages like the 21D and 10D, VWAP can vastly improve the accuracy of entry timing. Unlike moving averages, VWAP incorporates the stock's volume in its calculation, providing a more comprehensive analysis of price action. This volume analysis is crucial for identifying breakouts with the potential for sustained movement, essential for successful swing trading.

Not too much I didn't know from before, but all that stuff I knew from before also came from Shannon pretty much summarizing the book on interviews and the like I suppose. Handoffs and pinching were new concepts, and an unexpected great lesson was to classify gaps as common, breakaway, continuation and exhaustion. Days-to-cover was also a new concept to me.

AWVAP really is a cornerstone tool alongside price, volume, moving averages. I've been able to use it to successfully call long and short opportunities already.

Since I have read some technical analysis books before, this one didn't have much to teach me. Besides that, however, the mindset and step-by-step analysis that the author, Brian Shannon, illustrates in the book are highly insightful and could improve your vision about trading, as well as how to be disciplined and respect your strategy.

I fully recommend it to all of you.

very good book just brushed over it again and can say it just has a lot of good data about AVWAP, and when used in conjunction when certain concepts, it can serve as a great technique for scaling in / out of a position while also managing a stop loss / take profit in more of a dynamic way.

UPDATED December 25, 2025

This book is pure charlatanism. Brian Shannon presents himself as an authority, but his claims collapse under statistical testing and offer no real edge. This is true for both anchored VWAPs and simple moving averages.

Trading is the most competitive field in the world. Some of the smartest people work in it. They constantly fight for even the smallest advantage. Applying anchored VWAPs proved far more difficult than Brian Shannon suggests. I nearly lost a significant amount of money by trying to trade based on his suggestions.

If you know Python and basic statistics and want to test the trading strategies described in this book, you may find my repository https://github.com/s-kust/python-back... helpful.

============================

It is a life-changing book and a must-read for every financial market participant.

I have published free Python code - https://github.com/s-kust/anchored_vwaps

This repository provides Python code for adding anchored VWAPs to OHLC data, generating charts, and saving them as .png files. It can help you apply the trading strategies described in Brian Shannon's book, Maximum Trading Gains with Anchored VWAP. The precondition is that you're familiar with running Python scripts and have some knowledge of Pandas.
