Logan, deeply soaked with unicorn magic, is the ultimate slave to the unicorn, his mind, body and soul completely forfeit to the unicorn's whims. Blake on the other hand has his fair share of troubles with the centaurs, a rival clan to the ones on the farm capturing him and forcing him to see his once innocent world in a different light. The unicorn's son, Keallan, is the brothers' only hope. Can he rise up and overcome his own failings to help the two men before Logan is totally lost and Blake is held forever by the centaur clan? And can all this prevent the bloodshed that will soon follow as the unicorns and the centaurs prepare for war?
I live in Melbourne, Victoria, in the land of Oz. According to my own Teenage mis-adventures, I am just an ordinary guy with a penis which likes to get me into trouble…a lot. I’ve seduced trees, copulated with watermelons, and had nice old ladies pick ants off my naked body. Yep, that’s me. Mark Alders. All round nice guy and with my brain firmly in my pants, exactly where it belongs!
So what about the here and now? Well, I am a mild, mannered post office worker by day. I have a mortgage to pay and a partner named Lee who I have been with for *cough* twenty one years *cough.* At night, my muse, the bitch, forces me into bondage and makes me sit at my computer and type out stories about men having sex with each other…all the time…over and over…in varying degrees of WTF, too!
I mean, I have stories out there about alien spiders needing humans to nourish their eggs, red-skinned aliens whose balls glow when they are sexually excited, beings who cock dock with their victims to drain them of their life force, and a young man who discovers puberty is just the start of his problems as he comes into ‘magolescence’ on his eighteenth birthday and his penis turns into a snake!
Ah, the life of a story teller. The fun never ends.
The plot moves along quickly. You have a hard time putting it down because you are afraid you'll "miss" something;) I enjoyed the further development and growth of the characters in this second book of the series. Because of the nature of the plot line I expected to have a lot more "yeah, right" moments but the author manages to weave in the "magical" elements of the story into a believable storyline. I look forward to more book by this author.
There's everything in this book - sex, back-stabbing, sex, centaur ceremonies, characters switching sides, sex, mythical creatures, sex, magic, sex, masterful evil plots to rule the land, sex, war and did I mention sex? Sort of reminds me of an episode of Desperate housewives! :D
We are intruduced to an Ancient One and the Queen in this part of the story. You have to read on to find out what their agenda's are, as they're both mysterious magical beings. Like the council, are they evil, creating lies to gain allies? Seems everyone has their own agenda but the lines of who's good and evil are blurred throughout the first half of the book. There is no predictablility in this story at all. The story jumps from one group to another, combines some of them together, until the end when they all converge during the fight. Being Mark, I thought the war might end up in some sort of orgy!! LOL
Did the war actually decide a winner? We shall see....as one of the supposed evil ones rides off into the sunset...

4.5 stars for this follow up to Mark's Unicorn's Peril. The action picked up right where Peril left off and never stopped until the very end. All of the original characters where there along with several new ones to keep the story moving along. Lots of keep track of but still a great tale.
Thankfully, there was a "to be continued" notation which means we have a third installment to look forward to.
Okay now I can exhale. The whole time I was reading it, I had butterflies in my stomach. I tell you this book started off with a bang and didn't let you relax the whole book. I couldn't tell who was a bad guy or who was a good guy half of the time, lol Once again Mark gives you a great read!!
Please don’t pay attention to how long it took me to read this book. I started it when I knew that I have other obligations. Reading it that slowly only tortured me anyway. I was reading a few pages at a time and it only allowed my mind to makeup scenarios that were always worse than what actually happened.
This world that Mark has created is brilliant. He draws for you these vivid pictures that as you read they get their hooks into you so that you feel the heat, smell the dust, and for all the naked people running around; the damn itchy grass. The only logical creatures living in this world were the sheep…at least for the first 40% of the book. Reading this was like watching a training wreck with sick fascination. You can’t look away. When you close your eyes at night, you see it.
I had to watch as I became disappointed in Logan for not asking for help and then because he gave up and then when he started worshipping Aidenock again. (We will forget that I got excited for about two paragraphs when Aidenock was reborn.) And then I had to watch the power struggle between Aidenock and Logan and then Logan got stupid again after he got his brains sucked out. …You know, I once was able to visit with Melissa Marr and she told me that the more she liked a character the more she tortured them. Logan is the most tortured character in this series and I have to believe that it is because somewhere he is truly loved…because he is getting no love at home. You cannot make me believe that the Epilogue is loved. More like Stockholm Syndrome.
Let’s see sweet Josh turned into a power drunk heartless unicorn. I was made to believe that he was beyond redemption, thank you very much. Let’s say that I was led astray.
Oh, let’s not talk about Blake. Okay, lets. He forgot he had a set and turned into a carpet for the centaurs wipe their hooves on. It did not surprise me that it was a WOMAN, Ambrosia, who led him around by the nose to get his place recognized as the Keeper.
Poor Keallan, got volunteered for a fight to the death, didn’t get the broad and for some reason kept getting his head literally stuck in the most disgusting places.
Ancient One? *snort* I was afraid to even like her. I read her sections with one eye closed waiting for the disaster that she was sure to bring with her. I knew that as soon as I relaxed she would pull out an axe and chop off Logan’s head.
Like I said, it is BRILLIANT. Just don’t torture yourself by reading it in pieces. Grab your chips and dip and select a place to nest until you are finished.
