What do dreams mean? How important is childhood, really? Why do we forget this--and remember that?
There's nothing more fascinating--or frightening--than the ins and outs of the human mind. But understanding the complex links between our brains, our emotions, and our behavior can be challenging. This book unravels even the most arcane mysteries of psychology,
This book really lives up to its title, providing a comprehensive and easy-to-grasp introduction to the intriguing field of psychology. The author is able to span an impressive array of subjects, from the basic tenets of classical and operant conditioning to the intricacies of cognitive process, social behavior, personality theories, and even touches on psychological disorders and therapy.
One of the strengths of this book is the writing style itself, which is so clear and readable. The author shuns highly academic language and thus makes even complicated ideas easily comprehensible for those with no psychology background at all. She also succeeds in demystifying complicated ideas into manageable pieces of information, many times using real-life examples and down-to-earth stories to highlight major points. Learning about human mind and behavior does not then seem like study, but an adventure.
While the scope of the book is to be admired, its depth on any given subject must necessarily be restricted. Considering the enormity of psychology, each field is treated as an introduction, giving a good foundation rather than a detailed examination. It's like an ideal primer or a complete overview.
The author's presentation of the material is clear and coherent, moving from basic principles to more complex topics. The addition of useful summaries and key points at the conclusion of each chapter reinforces learning and facilitates retention. Overall, "The Everything Psychology Book" is a useful guide for anyone interested in the fundamentals of psychology, providing a balanced and interesting introduction to the subject. It's an excellent choice for students contemplating psychology, individuals who want to know themselves and others better, or simply anybody with a broad interest in the human mind.
The book was good, though I did find grammar and spelling mistakes and there was some information that hadn't been updated before publishing. The problem I found was how credible the information due to outdated information and spelling and grammar issues. Though it's good for a nice read and a little dip into psychology, I'd rather go with a more academic level for psychology books rather than tiny paragraphs summarizing it. Overall, it was an okay book (not the best, not the worst), but it did help me get into psychology.
This book was absolutely amazing to read, and I learned a lot more about psychology than I had before. I didn’t know there was so many layers. I highly recommend this book if you like science of the mind.
This book is so fascinating! I'm wanting to be a psychologist even more now that I read this book. It gives information on a lot of different fields on psychology so I'm sure that you'll find something in this book that interests you. Another thing I like about this book is that it is just giving the facts in clear form, not some textbook lingo that would inquire you to stare at the book's page for an hour. So if you want to be a psychologist or just merely want to know more about it, pick this book up sometime and enjoy! :)
This was a great crash course, but it lost some stars for poor editing. I did learn a lot but I didn't like how it tried to just gloss over cruel animal experiments done in the name of man's curiosity. At least mention how unethical it was/is...
