Well here is the penultimate book from latest Papertiger hunting spree -This time by both Doris and Boris Vallejo (rather than the simple credit given by Goodreads). As usual it is filled with anatomically perfect (or stylised perfect) specimens in various erotic and semi-erotic poses.
However this time each main image is supplied with several pages of text - not so much a short story as rather an excerpt that paints the "scene" that goes with that image (along with a number of lesser images to help illustrate other parts of the text.
Not quite short stories but rather a sample of a large piece of work that justifies the full page image. Some are flights of fancy other dreams and nightmares.
The Vallejo's have a very recognisable style which has drawn compliment and compliant but you cannot deny that they have made this style their own. This I will admit is an interesting twist on their usual work.
Good lord that was horrible! This was purchased because of the artwork by Boris, however Doris cannot write. In fact she is so bad that she could have won the goodreads award if it was published this year.
What's wrong with it? You may ask. Everything, it's like reading a fifth year schoolgirls fantasy complete with elephant trunks, weird sex and impossible, perverse events.
Boris' artwork is so lazy that in the story "Medusa" every figure in the painting as the same physique and face. Oh and things can be repeated up to three times In the same sentence. Even mentions different shades of gray long before THAT book.
Unlike Mr. Vallejo's other art compilation books, this one in particular is quite risqué. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a pornographic art book as such, but rather a collection of paintings that capture the beauty of nudity without being too explicit.
The writing doesn't work for me, but the art is pretty good so I am giving it half and half on the rating scale. It is a book that most would by for the art by Boris Vallejo. The "erotica" writing doesn't work for me as it seemed disjointed and no real passion. The art however is typical Boris with lots of paintings with women (and a few) men displaying their sculpted bodies with a paranormal or fantasy setting. Recommend only for the die-hard Boris collector.
Gorgeous erotic art, of course: it's by Boris Vallejo. But the stories are the interesting part: strange and intriguing, I really wonder which came first, story or art.
