Lovely, simple, unfussy 1950's American recipes. My family's favourite (now into the fourth generation) is "Beerburgers", the recipe for which can be found on page 148. The illustrations (very period) are an absolute delight. The final section, "The Watched Pot" contains five 'readible edibles'; my favourite of which is Paul Gallico's "Ordeal by Fire": which is a very funny piece about the perils of cooking on a BBQ.
