Mean Chicks, Cliques, and Dirty Tricks: A Real Girl's Guide to Getting Through the Day with Smarts and Style
Author: Erika V. Shearin Karres
Genre: Informational
Pages:160

Mean Chicks, Cliques, and Dirty Tricks: A Real Girl's Guide to Getting Through the Day with Smarts and Style is about how to get to life with out go through so much pain and bullying. This book is about how to stand up to your worst nightmare and how to get rid of her. Girl guru, Dr. Erika, teaches you everything to know by putting real situations, tips, and quizzes to help you out. She interviewed 1000 girls to gather information about a daily teens life and how hard it can be. There are popular chicks, first dates, and even the bully giving you so much pressure.

I liked this book because some of the situations shes been through, you can relate to. One of the things I related to is how much anger you have when someone bullies you. It is like you just want to smack that girl down and beat her up. This book gives you a solution to all your teen trouble. I also like this book because it gives you real good advice. One of my favorite advice was to stand up to the bully if she and he is saying rumors about you. The book said to say "thanks for being such a great publisher and I love your prize, its free." I would recommend this book to anyone that thinks they can't stand up to there bully because you actually can. There just pick on you because your weaker and stronger. If you show that your not, they will stop.

I really enjoyed this book, as it is very informative and descriptive about each mean chick, the story behind them and what to do when you encounter these mean chicks. These mean chicks are the gossip, the snob, the teaser, the traitor, and so forth. Each of these girls act the way they do due to many circumstances. For example, perhaps their parents are always fighting at home or maybe they feel like they need to be respected. While dealing with these girls, we have to understand why they act at that ways and what we can do for ourselves and them. The author constantly says, " Every girl has potential." That is a fact, but sometimes other girls have to help each other in realizing their potential. There are also many skills the author taught me and developing these skills can lead to personal growth. Some skills are keeping a journal or blog to write down your feelings, doing something you like, relaxing and calming down when you are having a bad day or is in a bad mood and so forth. Thus, I enjoyed reading this book because I learned a lot and this book influenced me emotionally, mentally, physically and perhaps spiritually.

Mean Chicks, Cliques, and Dirty Tricks By Erika V. Shearin Karres
Genre: informational
Pages: 160

This inspiring book tells everyday girls how to handle their worst nightmare. From The Snob, The Gossip, and The Teaser, to the Bully and the Traitor this book tells you it is possible to handle it all. Weather you are “Just one of the Girls” fighting against the “Chick Clique” or something much more serious this book can make changes. Many personal stories and helpful hints to getting life back to normal hide between the covers of this book.

I gave this book two stars because it wasn’t about how places like Dublin are. It was about places with a ton of bullies or such. I don’t know if it is because I am newer to the district or what, but the book doesn’t tell about how to get more or new friends if you loose them. I found this book to be full of information but not the kind I might need.

MEAN CHICKS, CLIQUES, AND DIRTY TRICKS

Nonfiction Informational

The book MEAN CHICKS, CLIQUES, AND DIRTY TRICKS, talked about how girls can change how many mean girls there are in their school. It talks about how to deal with “The Snob,” “The Gossip,” “The Teaser,” “The Bully,” “The Traitor,” and “The Clique Chick.” This book also talks about how just one girl can change almost the whole school of girls.

I thought this book was okay, because it helped me learn about things that I didn’t know how to handle things that I had no idea how to handle. It inspired me to imagine new ideas. This book also let me quiz myself so I knew if I was a target or a follower. I could also be a independent girl who knows how to be a leader. I would definitely recommend this book to any girl who is unsure of themselves or doe not think that they are in the “in crowd.”

I read this book and my daughter also read it. We talked about what girl's say and do. Sometimes girls can really be cruel and she has experienced some of that. Often it is a mutual thing though. They are not friends with each other one day and the next day they are. One girl interviewed in the book said that to ask a girl if she hasn't been teased by other girls is basically to ask her if she has been with other girls. Yes, girls seem so much more 'backbiting' than boys as I notice from working with children as well as having a girlie girl myself. But... hey we grow up to be women. However, the book doesn't go into detail about how powerful a close female friend can be. Yes, girls/woman can gossip and judge, but they can also provide support and loyalty. Overall, the book had some interesting parts.

the book is about girls who think they're better than everyone. so they be mean to people who is low class. because they don't have the same things as them. they talk down on people to make themselves feel better. they make things up about people for no reason. this book shows a lot about the real world and how it is with teenager at school. because some schools do have these typ of problems. people go through things like this every day of their lives. and if you would read this you could probably can connect to the book.

I really enjoyed this book and it had tons of good facts and tips about getting through tuff times and how to deal with bullies. It also had real life stories and events that people went through. Most of the stories were all so sad and it was awful how people would treat one another. They would just make them feel so bad about themselves that they don’t even want to come to school. A lot of the stuff in the book was also very interesting and had really good facts and ideas. They also had short quizzes like how to find out if you are becoming a bully or if you are vulnerable to one. Overall all I really liked this book and felt it was very helpful.

At the time I read this book I was in high school and enjoyed it. It explained a lot to me about girls and why some of them act the way they do. See, I was never popular and I wondered about everything the book stands for.

My daughter is now reading this and can identify girls at her school that fit into the various labels. I am using this as a foundation for discussions to help her become more assertive. Time will tell if some of the advice makes a difference and helps her become a more confident young woman.
