Follow the ups and downs of the Bennet family in this witty classic, full of unforgettable characters. Has the lively heroine Miss Elizabeth Bennet met her match in aloof Mr. Darcy?
She joined Usborne Publishing almost straight out of university and has been writing books for them pretty much ever since. She has written about everything from dinosaurs to the Queen to Fairy Ponies and tiny monsters, small enough to fit in your pocket. She is also a mum of two boys and works from home, where she spends most of her time talking to the dog and trying not to eat too much cheese.
This middle grade version of Pride and Prejudice has changed my perspective towards the story. With its beautiful illustrations and better narrative than the other two versions i have read, I obviously like this one better and able to comprehend better too. How many betters there is? 😆 i don't know. my vocabularies just seems limited these days. pardon me sir. hahaha.
everyone made mistakes including Mr Darcy. he has the right intentions and a kind heart, but he clearly said the wrong thing at first. when he realised it, he regretted what he had said and reconciled with elizabeth. this story is cliche in Malay movies, but you know, its good to read English people's version.
millions people have read and review this. i dont see why people would stop and read my review, but lets just leave it to that short one 🤣
For what this is; a shortened version of Pride & Prejudice for younger children, it is wonderful.
There are 'omissions' obviously, and many of the details are somewhat glossed over, but I felt that the story was still there, and done well.
I had purchased this for my 8 year old want-to-be Austen fan, but I may hold out with this book for a while after reading it- like the original book, there is a complex story line and some nice use of language that would make explanation necessary. And as an Austen fan myself, I want her first experience with the great lady to be 'just right'...but when she is a little older & has a better grasp of slightly more complex language, etc-- this is going to be the first book I reach for!!!!!
A wonderful simplified version of Jane Austen's classic novel Pride and Prejudice for the younger reader. With beautiful cleverly drawn pictures to match the descriptions. It still gets the classic story across perfectly and there are some sentences that sound very similar to the ones in the original book.
Well-written, with gorgeous illustrations and design. As abridged versions go - easy to understand and read. Great for foreign-language students.
Of course, almost all of the original book's sarcasm and irony are gone, and at a couple of places details were omitted for the sake of brevity and clarity, but some of those could have been done better - so there are my 4 stars.
Beautifully illustrated. The story is a simplified version, I don't have a younger child so I am not sure if they would understand all the themes. As an adult who loves Jane I adore my copy.
Obviously something lost in the retelling, but I suspect the original wouldn't really be my cup of tea either. At least now I know what the story is about.
