Rate this book
Amanda Jackson took the job with Fame magazine to get closer to her estranged father, billionaire publisher Peter Tate. Instead of welcoming her, Dad sends her out of the country to cover a music festival on the magnificent isle of Capri. There, Amanda finds herself up close and personal with her dad’s leading competitor--dashing British playboy, Eric Greyford. Can she get an exclusive on Eric’s hectic love life, or will she wind up as just another item on the gossip pages of his newspaper?
Forced to take over management of his family’s publishing business after his brother’s death, Eric Greyford needed a diversion. Now, he’s found one in the beautiful blonde reporter he discovers in his hotel room. But is the girl a bumbling junior member of the paparazzi or a corporate spy sent to get the scoop on his company’s daring new business plan?

About the author

Lynn Reynolds

Lynn Reynolds’ published fiction includes chick lit, steamy romance, a cookbook, and a ghost story. RT Book Reviews called her debut novel THIRTY-NINE AGAIN, “a first-class mystery . . . and a first-class read.” Print editions of Lynn’s novels may be ordered wherever books are sold. Her ebooks are sold exclusively at Amazon.

In addition to her full-length fiction, Lynn has written numerous well-reviewed short stories and poetry, which have appeared in a number of obscure literary magazines you've never heard of.

Lynn’s real life alter ego, Linda Reynolds-Burkins, currently works in corporate communications for a small Maryland-based defense contractor. In her previous career as a journalist, Linda wrote feature articles for the Pulitzer Prize-winning Baltimore Sun and many other regional publications. She also worked in public relations for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and received the Mayor's Citation for her work with the symphony's Community Outreach Committee.

A woman with a dangerously short attention span, Lynn has been a librarian, a journalist, a publicist, a computer programmer, an actress, a stagehand, a secretary, and a child model. Eventually, she is bound to run out of professions. Her real ambition is to be a wench at The Renaissance Faire.

This book didn’t work for me.

I really enjoyed Thirty-Nine Again (TNA) by this author, so I bought Love Capri Style (LCS) hping for more of the same. But I was disappointed. TNA was clever, witty and fun, but I didn’t feel that with LCS. I was not enjoying the main characters. I lost interest. I read 40% and then jumped to the last couple of chapters.

STORY BRIEF:
Amanda’s parents never married and she grew up without her father. Amanda’s father owns a large publishing group which includes a celebrity magazine called Fame. Amanda hopes to interact with her father and develop a relationship with him, so she goes to work for Fame, but she’s not cut out for it. She is assigned to write a scandalous article about Eric a wealthy playboy who is dating a famous singer. Eric is immediately attracted to Amanda. They have a date. Amanda is reluctant because she knows he is dating the singer. Amanda also keeps her father’s name a secret which creates a conflict later.

DATA:
Narrative mode: 3rd person. Story length: 234 pages. Swearing language: mild. Sexual content: not in the parts I read. Setting: current day mostly Island of Capri (near the coast of Italy). Copyright: 2010. Genre: contemporary romance.

It's taken me awhile to write this review because I've encountered Lynn in the blogosphere and I wanted to do justice to this review. As a fellow indie author, I know how important it is to get specific and constructive reviews, so for what it's worth, here goes.

What I loved about this book was that it managed that delicate balance of being humorous without being campy so artfully that I smiled almost from beginning to end. Having your characters do and say humorous things without trivializing them is incredibly difficult to do (I would never even attempt it) but Lynn did so in a manner that seemed effortless.

Her writing is fluid and natural, with bursts of descriptive genius that remind you throughout that should she choose, she would be equally talented at writing deep, dense, literary fiction. I also loved that in a relatively short read, she managed to craft interactions between her characters that convinced me utterly that they were developing a genuine and heartfelt connection to one another and in a short period of time. I did not have to suspend my disbelief that they had fallen in love, I believed it.

And then, amidst the humor and playfulness, there was this incredibly vivid portrayal of a growing physical attraction, and the reckless things it can make us do. The sex scenes were pitch-perfect. All too often, I read scenes of intimacy where the characters become someone else entirely (which sometimes does in fact happen during sex for sure) but in a way that is unconvincing - that didn't happen here at all.

Lynn's preferred genre includes more intrigue and adventure than I generally feel drawn to as a reader, but reading 'Love Capri Style' made me curious enough to give it a whirl. I'll be following her work from now on because I think I can learn a lot from her light touch and economy of expression.

What is it about a story that grabs you from the beginning? I’ve wondered before, but my curiosity has increased tenfold since I began reviewing. I still don’t know how to answer that, but I can definitely say I opened this book as unaware as a fly heading toward a spider web. It had me from the start. Perhaps it was the hero, Eric Greyfield, whose cool, calm demeanor and cocky-as-hell attitude had me swooning from his first, seemingly innocuous, “Well, hello.” Perhaps it was Amanda, the headstrong, independent reporter who wanted to forge a relationship with her father enough to test her comfort zone. I don’t know, but this is one book I did not want to put down, and one I desperately wanted to see more of after the ending scene.

My favorite books recently have been those with headstrong characters who clash ideologically but can’t keep their hands, or thoughts, off each other. The sexual tension in “Love Capri Style” is thick and authentic. The characters are engaging, incredibly likable, and seem very real. The side-characters are likewise engaging, and each serves a purpose. The writing is fluid and natural. These are things that qualify a book as a must-read, or in my case, a must-read-again-and-again, and when I find a novel that captures all these qualities, it’s hard not to beg for more.

I really don’t want to give away too much of the story itself, especially since the blurb has been provided. Let me leave it at this: having read nothing else by Lynn Reynolds, she has definitely made my recommended authors list. I’ll be ready with my credit card, anxious for her next release.

This was a holiday read for me and it just fitted the bill, although I was in Holland, and not Capri!
The words flowed nicely and the characters developed in a very satisfying way. I don't quite understand how the hero, Eric, could have been duped into the initial situation but life evolves in mysterious ways. It was a good way to spend a few hours travelling!

This is a cute if not predictable and formulaic love story. Amusing diversion, but, not one of my favorites.
