What a good book. Although I didn't read it cover to cover, I picked the chapters that applied to what I was looking for. Being able to have a better understanding of home ownership is not as glamorous as people make it seem. It is really necessary to do your homework though. This is packed with info so will guide you through all the things that you need to know. Definitely worth a read although a bit outdated.
Yep: Apparently this is happening! I bought this book 6+ years ago and it was written when I was a freshman in college, so some of the information is a little out of date. Also, that giant housing bubble hadn't happened yet, so there is that. Still, a lot of the information is good, particularly her focus on the financial AND emotional issues surrounding housebuying. The prose is a little hokey at times and the near-complete lack of references to the internet is glaring (except for a few "Are you Wired?" notes), but still worth reading. Especially if you are cheap and lazy like me and already have it on your shelf.
Book is full of worksheets of house buying needs. I enjoyed this aspect of the book. It made me think about a few thing that I might not have otherwise - esp since this is the third house-buying book I've read.
I'm going to have to buy this book because I doubt I'll ever stop reading it until I've bought a home. I'm giving it four stars with the caveat that I found it more useful than enjoyable.
