Pavel Goia knew when he was 5 years old that God had called him to speak for Him. Yet by the time Pavel reached his teens, having a good time with friends was far more important to him than his family’s religion. And communist Romania wasn’t exactly friendly to Christians.
But God got his attention one fateful night, and his life took that proverbial U-turn. Pavel made a covenant with God, and his dedication to that covenant was tested almost immediately. But he stayed true, and miracle after miracle followed in behalf of this one young man who trusted every aspect of his life completely to God.
The results of his unwavering loyalty to God? Four thousand pounds of glass suspended midair in a bottomless crate, a law passed by President Ceauşescu that forced a university to allow Pavel to continue his education, a large shipment of Bibles smuggled by unsuspecting police, and a dead boy raised to life—just to name a few.
Oh, yes, miracles still happen—one right after another.
In reading this book, which is about a Seventh-Day Adventist pastor I have heard online before, I was reminded, as I often am, of other books that I have read. In particular, this book strongly reminded me of the book A Thousand Shall Fall, which is about the experiences of a Seventh-Day Adventist member in Nazi Germany who was able to survive, through divine providence, the horrors of the Eastern front despite being sent as an unarmed pioneer into what may with considerable understatement be described as a difficult situation. This book is full of the discussion of miracles that happened in the life of the book’s subject over the course of the first part of his life, and the title is an apt description of the contents that are to be found in this book. If you are fond of reading about miracle stories, this book is full of them. These miracles, it should be noted, not only happen to the book’s subject but also to the people who happen to be around him, and thus allowed the author to worship God as he understood the Bible despite the difficulties of doing so in late Communist Romania.
This book is a quick read of about 150 pages in length and its materials are divided into thirteen chapters. The book begins with a chapter that discusses the workings of God in the life of the subject’s family and Goia’s wonderings about the plans of God for his life from early childhood (1), which delivered him from serious trouble. After that, there is a discussion of the divine promise to take care of believers, something that is seen over and over again (2). This is followed by a discussion of a glass business that Goia had as a teenager (3). After that there is a discussion of the Bible smuggling efforts that Goia experienced and how he was delivered from what could have been a stiff prison sentence (4). After that there is a discussion of the drama that Goia experienced trying to get into university as a building engineer (5) and his experiences in losing freedom in military service (6), and how his hard work led him to prosper despite his refusal to work on the Sabbath (7), and how despite hostility he was able to win friends in high places from those who respected his work ethic (8). At this point there is a family photo album, and then there is a look at the difficulties the subject faced in his education (9), as well as his marriage to his childhood crush (10). There is a discussion of his success in working with textiles because of the personal connections he was able to make and divine providence (11), as well as a look at a miracle involving a handicapped young man (12). The book ends with a discussion of the divine providence of Goia’s seminary education and move from Romania to the United States (13), a well as a conclusion and an appeal from Goia to the reader to have faith in God’s care.
In reading a book like this one, I am struck with the thought that this book reminded me in many ways of a past that has been elusive in texts in my own religious tradition. In reading a book like this, I think of the stories that other people have shared with me about the workings of God in their own life and in the lives of their friends and family members. I am reminded of the faith that many people once had in the workings of God to make sure that people had enough to eat, had blessings for their hard work and their refusal to compromise faith, had cars to drive and access to higher education. Yet in my own religious tradition most of this material is recounted in oral accounts told by one member to a (hopefully) sympathetic audience. There is not, as is the case here, a tradition where ordinary members write full-sized books about the workings of divine providence in their lives. The subject of this book happens to be a religious leader, and if such books are to exist in the religious tradition I come from, they are likely to be from those who are in charge of churches or at least are part of the ministry. Some aspects, it must be noted, bear a strong resemblance as well to the account of the first volume of the Autobiography of Herbert W. Armstrong, and this book may be said to be similar to what that book would have sounded like had it been written by a sympathetic biographer rather than by the subject himself.
This book has to be one of my absolute favorite books of all time! I cannot believe what miracles God worked for Pavel Goia! (Then again, with God, all things are possible). This book and its story has strengthened my faith tremendously; I highly recommend it!
I loved this story. Pavel Goia really did witness a lot of miracles in his life, but it was because he was willing to humbly seek the Lord's will and wait on Him. Also, it does not hide the hard times that Pavel and his family experienced, which I found particularly inspiring. Too often I have read books that only tell about the good times and it can't help but make one wonder if God plays favourites. But Pavel definitely endured trials as well, just like I do, so it helped me realize that if I walk closer to God, I can also find His will and experience miracles.
The miracles that this young Romania soldier experience while in the military and through out his life ...is a beautiful testimony of God's Amazing grace & providential watch care. I couldn't put it down, once I got into the book.
A very readable and powerful book about the power of prayer in one man’s life, and how each of us has access to that power! I loved Budd’s writing that held my interest page after page, and I loved the humility I’ve come to know from Pavel in both this book and in his other book, “In the Spirit and Power”. Highly recommend this book and ITSAP- don’t only read them, let your prayer life be transformed as you claim the many promises found in the Bible and reiterated in these books!
Eileen Dry loaned me this book to read that from chapter 6 onward reminded me of my father’s stories about how God helped him stay faithful to the Sabbath under great opposition during forced military service in communist Cuba. My father’s relationship with the Lord stayed close until his death after those experiences in the military. He enjoyed defending the Seventh-day Adventist faith by conversing with people of other denominations such as Jehovah's Witnesses. He could remember most, if not all, of the Scriptures with references, and he always preached from memory.
An exceptional account of how God can make Himself known to us and others through numerous and unbelievable miracles. After reading this, the reality of God as a Father who dearly cares for His children to the point of dying for them became more clear to me. And the confidence that I can pray for miracles in my life and He will answer has been growing and maturing continuously. "If he did it before, He can do it again!"
I love this man, Pavel Goia! What great lessons! To have a personal relationship with the G-D of the Universe. Who could imagine such a life? It is a great lesson book on how to pray to G-D! We need more stories of Goia, and stories of our own walk with G-D!
This book was so interesting that I read it in one go. Reading about God's guidance in Pavel's life was so inspiring and a great reminder to put my trust in God because there's no problem too big for Him to solve.
Definitely one of the best books with answered prayer stories ever. And it's a modern story, which is a beautiful reminder that God is still on the business of performing miracles.
This was a good, quick read. I found it very encouraging. Reminded me to rest in God’s will, stop flapping around trying to orchestrate things my own way. I love the quote at the end ‘problems find their solution in prayer’.
What an amazing testimony of commitment and of dedicated prayers to God! Whoever reads this book will be blessed beyond measure & motivated to Seek God not for needs to be met, but to do His will & to Glorify Him..., and in doing that, the Lord God meets our needs!
Praise God for Pastor Pavel and his family! May the Lord continue to bless him and guide him through his life’s challenges.
I came across Pastor Goia through YouTube and learned about this book in one of his videos. I just finished reading the book and I highly recommend it if you want to read inspirational stories. I would not have believed them had I not already seen many of his sermons and learned he is the real deal. Now that I know his background and what he has gone through, I can understand the passion he shows in his sermons.
As I was reading this book, I was thought-provoked and felt challenged to trust and depend more on God rather than trying to figure everything out on your own. Again, prayer is the indispensible step to knowing God and His daily plans for our lives. This book is a must-read for anyone who wants to know how to live in a relationship with Jesus trusting in Him and in His plans.
Help me folks. How do I get the book here. I have tried clicking on several options as well as login in with my email but still I can't access the book. Please help I desperately want to go through the book
I bought this book because e I liked the title. I had never heard of the author before but since reading the book I looked up the author on u tub e and watched one of his talks. The book inspired me to want to be closer to Jesus.
Unbelievable miracles with God experienced by a faithful man. Lesson for me is that this is possible to anyone who chooses to walk with the Lord (meaningful daily devotions with complete surrender to God's will).
