Ken was born in Alaska, raised in Phoenix, Arizona, studied in California for a few years and then jumped on a sailing yacht and sailed for a year finally arriving in Australia. He attended Moore Theological College in Sydney (completing a Bachelor of Theology) and Morling College (completing a Masters of Arts in Theology.

He is married to Julie, a veteran youth minister and youth ministry consultant.

Since 1986, Ken has worked at four different churches as the youth minister. These churches ranged from large, well established churches with sizable youth ministries to church plants with a youth ministry that was just starting out. Most recently, he was the youth director at St. John’s Anglican Church (Shaughnessy) in Vancouver, British Columbia. He was the youth ministry lecturer at The Sydney Missionary and Bible College from 1995-2003. He also taught youth ministry at Youthworks Children’s and Youth Training College from 1999-2003. Ken was a consultant with the Sydney Diocese (Anglican) for four and a half years. During this time he was involved in the training and equipping of youth leaders across 260 churches. He ran a number of training events and started Youthsurge. Youthsurge is a regional gathering of youth groups held all over Australia. Youthsurge grew to over 50 surges annually attended by 5000 young people.

He has guest lectured in youth ministry at a number of colleges including Regent College (Vancouver), George Whitfield College (Capetown, South Africa), Oakhill College (London), and Cornhill Training College (London). Ken has also consulted for the Presbyterian Church of Queensland and the Anglican Diocese of Perth.

Ken is presently the Professor of Youth Ministry at Briercrest College and Seminary in Caronport, Saskatchewan Canada.

Ken has written articles on youth ministry for: Youthworker Journal (U.S.A), Youthwork Magazine (U.K.), Journal of Student Ministries (U.S.A), and The Briefing (Australia). He has presented seminars at a number of the Youth Specialty Conferences in the U.S.A.

He and Julie have run youth ministry training seminars in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, South Africa, the U.K., Western Europe, Canada and the USA.
