I read the first book in French (Le camp de l'épouvante) when I was a kid and thought it just ended with an open cliffhanger. I didn't know there was an untranslated sequel, that this book "The Second Summer" existed. It definitely captured my attention!

Fans of Goosebumps will feel a "Welcome to Dead House" vibe. I couldn't put it down; I read it non-stop. I was glad to know more about this Camp Zombie universe. I had fun reading this. The story is fast-paced, unfolding in a matters of 2-3 days. I found it scarier than the first one considering there are more campers deaths and that the kids are left to fend for themselves.

I also didn't know there was a sequel to this book too! So a 3rd book exist! The Lake's Revenge. I hope I get to read it some day. It's not available online or in my country's libraries. I'll hunt for it in used bookstores.

The horror is dialed up in this one -- there's an actual body count and jump scares are replaced by long chase scenes. Decently written for a juvenile novel, though not extraordinary. Fans of Goosebumps may get a kick out of Camp Zombie: The Second Summer.
