An out and proud bisexual transgender man, DC Juris moved to New York State in 2001 for a real-life romance. By day he is a mild-mannered office manager, by night a passionate writer of all types of romance. He lives in Upstate New York with his husband, two dogs, four cats, and a menagerie of Halloween props just creepy enough to keep people guessing about his sanity. Which is just the way he likes it. Still hopelessly single when it comes to the woman in his life, DC will gladly entertain offers, or applications for the position.

When he's not writing down what his characters tell him, DC can be found surfing the internet for random research (DC would like to remind everyone that porn *is* research for him!), killing things on his Xbox, reading, or taking pictures of the world around him.

I enjoyed parts of this book, though it's not for everyone, there were some great emotional scenes and hot M/m/m action. But the lower score is for the pace of the book, it was a bit of a slow start and then all of sudden we were in deep. Kind of only two settings for this book. I think it needed to be a bit longer to develop some more of the in-between. Also, heed some of the warnings, this book contained watersports (bodily functions are personally is not my thing, but has no effect on the rating for me). The main character is also working through his past childhood abuse, which i know can be a trigger for some who don't like to read about abused characters and BDSM.

Oh my holy hell hotness! I wasn't expecting an actual love story when I had to read a maledom/watersports book but I was soooo wrong. With just a bit more of something...maybe background or history, this would have been a 5 star read. Vincent just needed so much and Eric was right there ready to provide. I would love another story with these two exploring more of their kinkiness together.

This is one of those books that I really could have been a high 3 but I rounded up. There are some really intense emotions in this book. As I was reading through it there were some lines that just struck me emotionally. Vincent is almost almost a fragile character with a history of parental abuse as a child and struggling with submissive tenancy. The book focuses almost exclusively on Vincent learning about BDSM and what excites him over a weekend a playhouse. Watching Vincent explore various aspects of play while dealing with his past is the thing that I loved about this book. It was interesting, complex, and most of all hot.

What wasn't so great is there isn't alot of reference points for the relationship between Vincent and Eric. We are just dropped into the story were Vincent decided 1)He is gay 2)He loves his best friend since childhood 3)He wants to get whipped. We don't get to see these two a just friends, we don't really know where they're coming from. What their lives are like now or what their friendship was like as kids. The gay thing seems like it is totally a non-issue for both these characters which just seems really strange for a guy that is engaged and living with a girlfriend. Vincent is happy to go away for a weekend of kinky sex with his childhood friend leaving a finance behind is a huge jump with very little in the way of explanation.

I also wasn't real impressed that this basically takes place in less than a week and Vincent is decided to be Eric's full time submissive, and totally changing his life around. He is going through so many upheaval is seems really irresponsible for both Anton and Eric to just going along and encourage this when Vincent has to be on a high from all the new experiences.

This book does have some flaw but for me the emotional roll coaster Vincent gets on is so intense and mesmerizing that the flaw fade into the background.

Slow simmer with a bit too much explanation at the front end, but soon heats up and...Damn! Some seriously hot M/m/m with a generous if surprising offering of watersports. The story is quite emotional as Vin finds peace with himself and love for Eric.

Finding Sanctuary is pretty hot fantasy fiction. I finished the book in one sitting and when I put it down, reluctantly, I realized this is perfect stroke fiction for women. The sex is incredibly steamy while maintaining a sensuality that will appeal to romance fans. The story is actually somewhat ridiculous with many elements simply existing for the ease of fantasy. Sort of like when you think of hot sex you ignore the condom because it’s just a fantasy and no one adds STDs in their late night dream material. So you have to go into the story with that mindset and not really worry that so many details are utterly ludicrous. If you can do that and enjoy heavy BDSM, this could be an entertaining late night tale.

The story starts with seemingly heterosexual Vincent having a mental breakdown. He has a panic attack and blacks out, only when he comes to; he realizes he always craved sex with his best friend Eric. Not only does Vin crave sex but he wants some heavy BDSM action too. So Eric does what every best friend would and gives Vin a book to read about the subject. After reading the book Vin decides he wants to grovel at Eric’s feet and off the two go to an exclusive play mansion that has rooms for every conceivable type of play. The two proceed to introduce Vin to his deepest desires while working out some emotional issues at the same time.
Now for starters the plot is more than slightly ridiculous. Vin goes from ignorant of BDSM to some serious, heavy play in the course of three days. Also the heavy play is near constant with little downtime. In fact the characters take a nap after being beaten bloody and then get up to head to the next heavy play session. There are no condoms in sight despite multiple partners because there is a magical lube that kills all STDs, including AIDS. The playhouse is an exclusive, elite mansion that has rooms for all kinds of play, even bestiality. But don’t worry, a PETA accountant is a member so clearly the animals are all happy. Vin hasn’t had sex with his female fiancé in over a year yet has also never masturbated in his entire life.

So there is a considerable amount of suspended disbelief that makes the story palatable despite these outrageous details. The fact that the story seems to work regardless is that it’s clearly a BDSM fantasy. It also does a commendable job of incorporating emotion, desire, and love into the scenes which elevate the story for romance fans. This isn’t strictly to get you off, though it has a considerable amount of that, it’s almost meant to appeal to romance fans with the true love between Vin and Eric. They get a happy ending and go from best friends to committed lovers in a very sensual way.

Vin is the star of the novel with his emotionally damaged background and confused emotions. His childhood filled with all kinds of abuse leave him shattered and unable to process emotions. He panics and blacks out whenever overwhelmed with confusion, desire, or any spike in feeling. His BDSM journey with Eric and Eric’s Dom Anton is interesting and sympathetic. Vincent is inherently a likable character as he struggles with his desires, yet remains a responsible, intelligent, caring, and flawed individual. He’s very aware of his flaws, which gives him a humble charm.

The writing is very clear to always let you know where Vin is emotionally. His thoughts, desires, fears, jealousy, and confusion are all presented but never overwhelming. Instead his character is woven into the sex scenes. Sometimes the story is repetitive and often will reiterate exactly what is important through dialogue, such as Anton’s assertion of Eric’s devotion to Vin, Vin’s background, and the rhetorical questions Vin constantly poses to himself. Some of this feels heavy handed but it’s a clear attempt to incorporate emotion into the sex. For the most part, this attempt is successful and the connection between Eric and Vin feels genuine, honest, and strong.

Not all of the issues brought up are resolved well as Vin’s acceptance of Anton is suspect at best and likely totally unrealistic. Vin’s emotional fragility and mental issues are not cured by magic sex, even delicious BDSM kind, and he has a lot more therapy in his future. Eric’s position as a switch may not be enough for Vin, despite their love, and that’s not entirely resolved either. So the story is far from perfect and for those that may be squeamish about some BDSM, there is bloody flogging, water sports, and a threesome that factor into the story. Yet for all of this, I found Finding Sanctuary to be a compelling, interesting, sensual, and romantic fantasy. The characters feel real with a clear connection and enough emotion that the sex scenes never feel clinical or detached. This is above all a love story, just wrapped in heavy BDSM and presented as a late night fantasy.

Something about this story really touched my heart and I'm surprised by that. There is a lot of sex but the story really isn't about sex. BDSM isn't something I read often, I don't shy away from it but I also don't go looking for it. This one had some elements that I found hard to read but looking past that there is a beautiful story of love, trust and acceptance.

Heads up... the story involves cheating and while it isn't something that bothers me in stories I know it bothers a lot of readers.

When I started reading this book I thought, “how strange, it’s a lot less erotica/naughty I was expecting”. Fanny Press is not releasing a lot of titles, but the titles it released are indeed more erotica than romance.

At the beginning Vincent and Eric’s story appeared to be a friends with benefits theme with a little touch of gay for you: best friends since high school, despite being Eric gay and Vincent straight, they managed to remain friends. Probably since Eric was there for Vincent when he was growing up with an abusive father, probably since Eric, even if in love with his friend, understood that he needed more a friend than a lover. As soon as Vincent was independent, and started to gain emotional stability, again it was not time for Eric to stake his claim, and then Vincent went and found a fiancé, Jenny, and he slowly but steadily led towards a 2.5 kids and suburb home life. It was simple, it was clean, it was what Eric thought Vincent needed after his youth. It was not what Eric needed, with his preferences for the BDSM world and co.

Really Eric was not demanding towards Vincent, there was no hints or regrets for what it could have been, but Vincent turns the table. Given the time to settle down and analyze his feelings, far from his abusive father, Vincent understands that he is in love with Eric. It’s a true and pure love, there is nothing of physical at the beginning, what I liked of this story is that Vincent was not having real problem with Jenny, not on a sexual than no-secual level, it was only that Vincent was not in love with Jenny, he was in love with Scott.

What I probably found a little too much convenient is that Vincent, out of the blue, discovered he had an not so veiled interest in BDSM; I found two explanation to that: or Eric, without realizing it, was transmitting by osmosis his interests to Vincent, or he, Eric, growing up with Vincent was the only one who really knew the guy and he taught himself beforehand how to be the man Vincent needed.

In any case my first impression that this was more a romance was confirmed, but the erotica side of the novel did indeed its appearance: the author lulled us with 3 days of blissful cohabitation during which Vincent and Eric knew each other as a lovers other than friends; after that the author plunged them, and the reader with them, into a full-time BDSM experience in an isolated country manor where everything you imagine, and something more, can happen. I’m true, without the lulling and the romance of the first part of the story, some of the experiences Vincent asks to make would have been a little too much for me; I’m not so into the BDSM world, and the author didn’t spare anything to the reader (watersports, blood-play, …), but I think that a true BDSM fan will find the novel well done and described. Me, I prefer the first part, that was a really nice romance, almost a high-school sweetheart story, only developed a little later after the end of their teenager years.

I think Vincent's father recognized early on that his son may be gay and worked diligently to try and beat it out of him; after his father caught him masturbating, beat him brutally and when he tried to masturbate after that, he'd blackout. Needless to say, Vincent receive little sexual satisfaction from his relationship with his fiancee.

But it isn't until his boyhood friend Eric invites him to the 'playhouse' and gives him a book to peruse, that Vincent begins to understand what he's been pushing down all his life and what his needs really are even after therapy.

The weekend with Eric opens his eyes to opportunities for pleasure and the realization that his happiness lies with being with Eric in all ways, but especially at Eric's knee.

Was a bit slow to start, finally got pretty deep although there was a lot covered in one weekend. Would like another story when Vincent and Eric are farther into exploring their relationship.

I was slow to warm up to this story, but I ended up enjoying it quite a bit.

The watersports....the first time, I got a little squeeked out...not so much because it was watersports, that no longer phazes me...it was that it was not fresh. Somehow, fresh urine is okay for me, but stale urine...yuck. But otherwise, the scenes were okay.

I really loved the M/m/m action.

I also liked, that it was made very clear to the doms, when Vin was saying no no no, that he ment yes...it was discussed, and not just assumed. There was no question about it being dubious or non-con, because it Vin asked to be allowed to say no...and not mean it. Noone can be a mind reader. It was good that it was made clear before hand.

I liked that Eric was careful with Vin, and didn't trust himself to not jump all in, due to his eagerness, and let things go to far.

There is story here...a good one. Yes there is a lot of sex...good sex. But it isn't PWP, it is still a romance.

Very enjoyable story.

First of all, if you wanna make a cheater your main character in the book, own up to it. Do not try to show the one that gets cheated on, the victim, as the bad guy.
Secondly the sex scenes could be so good, but they were so not because of the upmost care the doms were showing. Yeah we get it, you are being safe, BDSM is great, haters gonna hate, but did you have to write a pharagraph about the cleaning product they are using instead of bleach, or the doms checking the cuffs to see if the subs are comfy? Those subs are not demure slaves like in some books, they can tell if they are uncomfortable. If you want to really talk about it, you can do it outside of the sex scene so that we can get into the action a little.
It was more a book on the justification of BDSM lifestyle (Which I do not think necessary) than a romance book. They were already in love after all, one of the characters said it at like page 2 and the other page 5. (pages are not correct, just a matter of speach)

Pro: BDSM as I hope is practised in reality, h/c and angst, hot sex, some twists like . I really felt with Vincent b/c of his past and found most of his reactions written believable . Unlike Jenre, Jenny's over-the-top reaction didn't bother me so much, as I feared a cop out like her seeing someone else already, but it could have been handled more subtle.
Con: I wish there was a sequel, Eric's and Vincent's journey begins when the book ends. Especially Eric could use a lot more spotlight.
This review was written right after finishing the book, when I'm usually most enthusiastic. I will sleep on it.

This is really the story of Vincent, who at the beginning of the book believes he is straight. He has a girlfriend and they live together.
As the book progresses he realizes he has deep feelings for his friend , Eric. He also realizes that he might have some BDSM tendencies too.
Eric, takes him to Anton's house for the weekend. Anton is an experienced Dom and Eric asks him to guide Bincent through the weekend.
Vincent is eager to try lots of things including watersports, which aren't really my thing.
By the end, Vincent has moved in with Eric to being a new chapter of his life as Eric's sub.
An interesting book and I would love a follow up to see how Eric and Vincent are doing.

3.5 stars. Good kinky m/m romance about a guy who's felt only half alive for a long time, even though he has all the trappings of success (nice house, lovely fiancee, good job). He's slowly beginning to realize that what he actually needs are things that his father beat into him as being wrong. (The water sports were a bit much for me...)

This is intense. If you are even remotely into BDSM you will like this. He really draws you into the world and and into the relationship between these to men and how they not only discover their love for each other and how Vincent gets introduced into a whole new world. It had me holding my breath and waiting to see what happened.

Definitely water sports. Relationship progress way too fast, Vincent went from straight vanilla to gay hardcore bdsm in a weekend, a little unbelievable. But I liked the story anyways

I somehow just stumbled on this book even though it's been out for years, and I'm happy to have found it. I thought it was both sweet and hot, which certainly isn't easy to do when you're also featuring a character that is exploring his sexual orientation and BDSM for the first time while he's also dealing with past childhood abuse.

This book did feel a little rushed to me (plot-wise, not the writing) and I wish it had expanded on certain parts. For example, Eric probably should have had a conversation with Vincent about Eric's own submission needs and Anton in general *before* they were in the thick of the BDSM weekend.

Overall I really liked this book though. Heads up for anyone considering it, it does have cheating, mentions of childhood abuse, watersports (at the sub's request), and menage scenes that do involve jealousy.
