Vladimir Kavčič was born as the first of two sons in a working-family farm. He spent his childhood with relatives in Zireh, where his teacher was his father's friend, Anton Jobst . Since his birth certificate was destroyed during the war, the teacher wrote to him a certificate of schooling, which allowed him to enroll in classical gymnasium in Ljubljana. He was active at the gymnasium Karel Kavajh youth club, founded and edited by the magazine Naš rast , and also participated in the journals Mlada pota in Problemi . After graduating from gymnasium, he enrolled at the Faculty of Law, where he graduated in 1958. He chose this profession so that he could dedicate himself to writing as much as possible. As a lawyer, he was employed by RTV Slovenia. He was also the editor and director of the Borec publishing house, director of the Yugoslav Authors' Agency, and also held several political and state-official functions in the field of culture. He was President of the Assembly of the Cultural Community of Slovenia, President of the Republic Committee for Culture (1986-90) RS for international scientific, technical, educational and cultural cooperation. At the time of adoption he was the youngest member of the Society of Yugoslav Writers. He was the co-editor of Prostor and Time magazine, and until his retirement, he was also editor of the Journal of the Association of Fighters for Values ​​NOB Svobodna misel .
