Embrace the diverse spectrum of abilities, interests, and learning styles among students with this powerful series. Each book includes practical, research-based guidance for differentiating mathematics instruction and dozens of ready-to-use differentiated tasks (including reproducibles). Discover ways to scaffold mathematical learning; strategies for providing and structuring choice within classrooms; and guidance in leading large group discussions. Books include lessons that align with NCTM’s Principles and Standards for School Mathematics and Curriculum Focal Points.
Dacey's Math for All: Differentiating Instruction is the third book in a series with the same title. If the first two books for K-2 and 3-5 are as good as this one, then all three are books that should be on every K-8 math teacher's bookshelf.
Dacey with her co-author make the case for differentiating in-depth mathematics instruction to give access to conceptual knowledge in mathematics to every student rather than just giving challenging problems only to the "high" math group and fact practice to the "low" math group. The book is full of practical wisdom and reasonable structures for accomplishing this daunting task.
Dacey doesn't make everything look rosy. She acknowledges that this is hard work, but work worth undertaking. If we are serious about equity, then our children deserve the type of instruction described here.
