Based on the original classic, the story of young Sara Crewe, a Victorian girl of privilege, finds her at the mercy of a cruel headmistress when her beloved father dies, in a Keepsake edition that includes a Little Princess necklace charm. Original. Movie tie-in.
I remember this was one of my favourite books as a child. I believe because it seemed like a magical story where magic and happy endings exist. Now I know that it was because of the loneliness and longing that Sara experienced for her Dad and for his unconditional love that I can relate too also.
It was a good book to reminisce of old times and look forward to 2017 with. (What a coinkidink, fireworks just sounded.)
This was the first chapter book that I read to Catherine and have her be really interested in what I was saying. I used to read chapter books to her as a baby. But she understood the story this time and liked it! It was actually the Great Illustrated Classics one, which is an abridged version. This one was the closest to what I read to her. I love that she will sit and listen to me read to her, even when there isn't a picture for every part of the story. I really love this book for sentimental reasons. But the story is pretty good, too! It is a princess story about the inside of a girl, not the outside.
