From Patricia Potter, award-winning author of The Marshal and the Heiress, comes a thrilling tale of danger and romance as a Scottish peer and a woman with a mission meet in the unlikeliest place--a cattle drive.
Andrew Cameron, Earl of Kinloch, came to America to forge a new life free of emotional ties. But when he saved a Texas rancher from an ambush, he found himself deeply entangled--and suddenly employed as a cattle drover. Scrawny, scruffy young Gabe Lewis joined the drive too, sparking Drew's compassion. The boy couldn't do much right, but Drew had never met anyone with more determination. Then, under the grime and baggy clothes, Drew accidentally uncovered beautiful Gabrielle Parker, acting the role of her life--to unmask her father's killer.
Now Drew and Gabrielle are locked in a passionate dance of secrets and seduction as wild as the frontier they ride....
This ran a little long, but was a delight from beginning to end. I love the trope of women posing as men, and it was well handled here. Added to that was a mystery that kept my attention. A very enjoyable read with good characters.
This final book of the "AMERICAN/SCOTTISH" trilogy by Patricia Potter is great! The character development is masterful and the storyline has lots of twists and turns.
There's one big "HOWEVER." This is the third "girl-disguises-self-to-ride-on-a-cattle-drive" story I've read in as many weeks! At this rate, I can't imagine there were any cattle drives without women (stowing away as males)! Sheesh!
"The Scotsman Wore Spurs" brought the main characters of the two previous books to participate in the grand finale. There was lots of action and a mystery.
All three of the main characters in this book experience growth. Andrew Cameron was introduced in book 2; I really liked how he developed in book 3. The girl-turned-boy, Gabe Lewis/Gabrielle Parker, probably did the most growing up during the story.
Everyone has secrets and Patricia Potter does a great job telling their stories. Even the trail boss, Kirby Kingsley, has an important secret - that is 25 years old!
I also thought Potter did a great job with the nephew jealousy sub-plot and resolved it nicely.
I couldn't put the book down; I read through the night. This was a very satisfying read!
