In this compelling contemporary novel, a woman confronts past secrets and present dangers when she travels to Sedona, Arizona, to attend a family reunion.
Jessica Clayton has endured a lonely childhood. Brought up by her embittered, alchohilic father, she's shunted from one place to another as her father constantly loses horse training jobs. After his death, Jessica goes to college and then finds peace as part owner of a bookstore specializing in rare books and her cozy cottage.
Her life changes when she gets an invitation to a family reunion; a family she had no idea she had.
Secrets and subterfuge abound when she visits the Clement's Arizona ranch and meets her long lost family.
There is instant chemistry between Jessica and her aunt's adopted son, Ross. Jessica's constant suspicion of Ross, even after they made love, got to be quite annoying however.
Ross' inability to form relationships is due to his shattered childhood, and his Indian heritage keeps him from feeling a part of the family. He is the typical brooding, handsome, isolated hero.
Jessica's lack of interest in her inheritance is farfetched, especially at the end of the story.
I enjoyed this book but there were aspects that didn't fall into place for me which is why I gave it three stars.
