John Locke

Honorable Revenge

Rate this book
This is a story of crime and the men that commit crime. The degree of criminality of a crime is determined by the person who commits it. There is murder, an offense so abhorrent to men that it requires the ultimate penalty, a life for a life. There are crimes of passion, of greed, insanity, recklessness, planned, and crimes of opportunity. Crime has no boundaries or rules, no age restrictions or ethnicity, no language barriers nor morality. It is said that there are no new crimes, just new ways to commit them. This is true in today’s world of technology. Millions of dollars can disappear from one place and a nano-second later reappear on the other side of the world. A man’s life can be changed forever with one stroke of a key, his identification stolen or changed. A human organ can be bought, sold, and shipped to anywhere in the world, the same for a human being. No, there are no new crimes, just different ways to commit them. In this story I have committed every type of crime by every type of criminal that I could plot. The subplots weave in and out of the main story like an artisan’s loom creating a priceless garment. Honorable Revenge pits good against evil, light fighting dark, dark winning at times. For isn’t that the reality of life? We each have an element of criminal in us. Some can control the dark urges, others cannot. Who determines where honor lies? Is it the criminal code of honor, or the code of the evangelist? Who decides what is a crime and what punishment is to be meted out? In a world where the powerful make the rules, they also set the punishment. What chance does an honest man have, unless he himself becomes evil? John Locke is one of these men that finds himself pursued by evil men that want to kill him. Chinese Triads, the Cali Cartel, and L.A. toughest street gang are all after Locke. The chase becomes a free for all through L.A.'s back streets and dark alleys. Locke has a backpack filled with diamonds that he wants to trade for his life but doesn't trust anyone. The plot is filled with action, murder, traitors, duplicity, and men that will kill just for the fun of it.

John Locke is a lawyer. Not that he does any in the story, but you gotta have a job, right? He lives in The Grid, a ghetto which is overseen by Trey Big, a bad guy who really does care about his people. Locke lives in an apartment by Uncle Fats, owner of a Chinese restaurant. Fat's son is head of the Chinese triad in the States. Unlikely alliances. The real bad guys are the Mexican drug cartel. John witnesses a murder in the alley outside his apartment. The body, and the case it was carrying is hastily thrown inside a dumpster. Locke retrieves the case and immediately knows he is in big trouble when he sees what is in it, cash and diamonds! It is Trey Big's business to now what is going on in the grid and the Chinese mob isn't dumb either and all roads quickly lead back to John. This is cartel money and cartel diamonds, all a part of something much bigger. This is where the alliance comes in and it is all action all the time!

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading Honorable Revenge. I first thought it would make a pretty good 'airplane book' but, I have to say, that I ended up really enjoying it. Its the story of ex-Marine and occasional California attorney John Locke and his fight against one of the Mexican drug cartels. It is a suspenseful and violent action book but, it also has its characters speaking some pretty funny quips along the way. It's hard to put down once you start reading. The action is non-stop - But, there are also some tender love scenes between Locke and his girlfriend. There are a number of very colorful characters that add to the enjoyment - some are good guys and some are bad guys but it all seems to work out in the end.

I stumbled on Mike Pettit's character, John Locke, when I was searching for more books in the Donovan Creed series by author, John Locke.

Investigator/attorney, John Locke, is just a normal guy; so he says, but he manages to inspire murder and mayhem in his enemies. Filled with international intrique, Pettit's characters are real, his plot lines are plausable, in a fun read from beginning to end.

I have read: Honorable Revenge, The Body Broker, Little Tokyo, The Nine Monkeys, Jungle Rules, and am now reading Dirty Money...all supsense thrillers staring the character, John Locke.

As a novelist, I appreciate good writing that gives me a, "Guilty Pleasure," break from my own work. Pettit's stories are chocolate for my mind!
