Wow. This is the dumbest hero I’ve come across in a long time. I mean the entire town knew he was being played for his money by the Senator’s daughter and everyone lost respect for him.
Sorry – that’s not how alpha heroes are supposed to roll.

Heroine was equally tsl, but that’s to be expected. She forgave the hero after he sided with his girl friend for:
Insulting her in front of the entire café.
Slapping her
Making sure her house was foreclosed on.

He did come to his senses before the gf hired an arsonist to burn the heroine’s house down – so true love?

His excuse? Some other guy’s wife married young and decided a career was more important than staying home. Hero thought the heroine was too young for him and thought he’d get a placeholder girlfriend while she pursued her “career” as a paralegal.

Since the H/h were so boring and ridiculous, DP spiced up the narrative with the hunt for the heroine’s black widow stepmother who left a string of wealthy dead husbands in her wake. (She was caught by the crack Jacobsville police force) There was also a budding romance between the heroine’s boss and his overweight secretary who started going to the Jacobsville version of Curves and got her hair “frosted.”

Diana Palmer checklist:

Hairy chest check “furry”
Breast Description no nipple color to report
Cigarettes no
Alcohol she’s drinking iced tea at the local bar
Town Descriptions Woman’s only gym. Boarding house where heroine moves after being foreclosed. There are two competing banks.
Gardenia Scent Heroine smells like roses
LOL detail Hero teaches heroine how to make bacon in the microwave, carefully explaining about paper towels.
Cutesy detail The biscuit brothers were mentioned yet again.
DP hobbyhorse All organic all the time

I'm not going to even rate this, but a billion negative stars for the fucking fathead of an idiot otherwise known as the hero. What. An. Idiot. He may be the worst DP hero ever. Hmm, that phrase seems disturbingly familiar.

Anyhow, the heroine is not as stupid or as doormatty as some, but obviously she can't help loving Fucking Fathead (FF). The h's father has died and may have been killed by evil OW #1 aka the stepmother. The h and her brother are on the verge of losing the ranch. FF is the next door neighbor and has the hots for the h. Unlike other more honorable but equally awful DP heroes he doesn't stay away because he's too old for her. Nope, he stays away from her because evil OW #2 has more social clout. He was poor as a boy, and his mother was shunned by her society friends when she married a poor rancher, and blah, blah, blah...oh cry me a a Red River. Not very believable as pretty much all regular ranchers are poor, and....I'm letting reality interfere which is a dangerous thing to do. Oh yeah, he does mention he thinks the h may want a career so wouldn't be good ranch wife material. Yeah, and stupid me continued to read.

Evil OW #2 is a bitch on wheels to the h, and, okay, it was pretty entertaining as she is so awful plus everyone stands up for the h, even the h on occasion. Everyone except for FF, of course. At one point, the h snarks at evil OW#2 and gets slapped. Yes! Yes, the evil OW slaps the heroine! The hero does nothing except to tell the officer who wants to arrest the evil OW for battery that of course the heroine won't press charges. Be still my heart, FF. No literally. It's pounding in rage. I think it was at that point I wandered over to my Goodreads friends' reviews and posted mean thoughts.

The only good thing is that both evil OW get their comeuppances and are hunted down like the dogs they are. Evil OW #2 escapes, but I am going to put my money on all the DP lawmen and Special Ops guys that hate her guts that she will be brought to justice Surely they can use their assholeness for good and not evil.

The h marries the ever present hair chested DP FF and HEA. I am sure he will have either a brain or personality transplant by the next book and be a doting husband and all around nice guy.

Yes I liked it. This is my dirty little secret. Because it was angsty. Because the hero should have died, but the heroine did deserve him since she was so stupid and without pride and dignity that accepted him after all he did to her.
Welcome to Jacobsville, Texas, where cows are happy and cowboys are rude.
So rude that they don’t even say hello when they meet a lady.
So begins the book.
With the heroine being verbally abused by her neighbor, the hero.
She, of course, is in love with him because how can’t you not love a man like that? That when he sees you he salutes you with those sweet words:
What the hell do you want?
Ok, but afterwards he seems to redeem himself because he kisses her and tells her that maybe- maybe- he would not be so opposite to marrying her. Maybe. What a romantic proposal. Whatever. All our hopes of his redemption are shattered when he starts dating the town bi**h, a woman that everyone hates except him. He dates her because he is a social climber and wants to be accepted by the higher social circles in town. So he jilts the heroine to marry this dirty bi**h. Yes, he got engaged with her.
This is not enough.
Because the woman is appalling. A creep. A peasant.
And him?
He believes the evil ow lies about the heroine.
He doesn’t defend the heroine when ow insults her in a local pub
He doesn’t defend the heroine when ow SLAPS her in a public street.
The evil ow damages the heroine that loses her house because she cannot pay the mortgage.
Then he realizes that maybe-maybe- he was wrong and he goes back to the heroine with his tail between his legs, and luckily she send him where we all have been sending him through all the book.
Because even when he apologizes he tells her the things that all women would like to hear.
“She was beautiful and rich and culturate. I was in over my head before I knew it”
Yeah right. Best apologies ever.
Now you can only go and f**k yourself.
Quick, please.
And close the door when you’re out.
This man is not worth anything.
He should be the evil stupid ex fiancé that the heroine has just left when she meets the hero.
I didn’t want them together.
He cheated on her.
He betrayed her emotionally and physically, her trust, her love.
He didn’t deserve a second chance. I know that Jacobsville is a small town and choices are limited but my, I prefer to stay single.
Anyway, I suffered through all the book, I risked a stroke and my blood pressure is high. In a few words,I liked it!

This has the typical DP asshat H who doesn’t know when to quit and his tstl quotient is so high that it’s a wonder he runs a successful business as he does. He does a complete 180 from an aww-so-sweet and obvious smittenness to shifting his allegiance totally to the crazed ow. DP explains all in her usual way- how he believed her too young to settle down and maybe she would want a career over marriage etc. but that does not explain how his feelings changed so dramatically.
What I find completely unforgivable is how he stood and just watched the nasty ow verbally and then physically assault the poor h and does nothing!! Most DP Hs treat the h badly but they are always protective of her in some way, especially if a third person mistreats them. Of course an ow can change that perspective and its good for the angst too but it happened once too often and even physical assault didn't open his much blinded eyes.

Apart from that, it's a very average DP and the H is mostly absent in the 2nd half, coming back for a periodic grope (*grimace*) and that too didn't thrill me as much as DP's making out sessions usually do.
The h and her brother, Curt (the H’s poor neighbors) go through so much but the d-b is disinclined or not interested enough to help them in any way. Not that they ask for it but it's expected of a H to at least offer! Curt comes across as an affable, hardworking guy and a loving caring brother. I somehow hated the H’s alluded snubbing of Curt and treatment as a menial employee even more than I disliked his treatment of the h.

And this is another DP with hordes of characters from other books romping about doing their stuff but for once I enjoyed reading about them thoroughly - maybe as this h/H did not have much going for them.

UPDATE: ==>Relido em 23 de junho de 2016.

The author's heroes are easily fooled by OW.
They are gullible and adore a blonde socialite.
Just OW show interest and the hero goes blind and his brain stops working.
They become toys in their hands.
And if OW comes from a wealthy family then, they're even dumber.
For this hero a social position is more important than a good character.

Harley Fowler and Blake Kemp are wonderful!

The 4 stars are for our heroine and the townsfolk who supported her and her brother. The hero has gained zero star and a kick in the ass to learn to stop being dumb and shithead.

==>My Highligts:

"I don't know that he's got marriage on his mind," Curt replied slowly. "But he's spent a good deal of time with Julie and the senator just lately."

"He's got a big, fancy house and he likes to keep company with high society. Maybe that's why he's been taking Senator Merrill's daughter around. It gets him into places he was never invited to before. We'd never fit. Especially me,"

"She told me that you treated her so rudely that Kemp made her leave the office."

"Oh, look, it's the little secretary," Julie drawled when she saw Libby in line behind them. "Still telling lies about me, Miss Collins?" she asked with a laugh.

"Harley Fowler defended me," Libby said with a quiet smile.
"Harley's sweet. He defended me when Julie was insulting me."

"When Julie kissed him, it was with her whole body. She was more than willing to do anything he liked."

Kemp cursed. "I don't understand how a man who was so concerned for both of you has suddenly become an enemy. However," he added, "I imagine Julie Merrill has something to do with his change of heart." "He's crazy about her, from what we hear."

"You keep your sticky hands to yourself, you little liar," Julie told her as she passed on the steps. "Jordan is mine!" "No doubt you mean his money is yours, right?" Libby ventured. Julie drew back her hand and slapped Libby across the cheek as hard as she could. "Damn you!" she raged.

"I am nobody's one-night stand," she flashed at him. "Not even yours!"
"Don't make stupid jokes," he said icily. "You're no innocent."

"Libby and Curt had been forced to move out of the farmhouse where they'd grown up, because the bank had foreclosed."

"He'd liked being Julie's escort, being accepted by the social crowd she ran around with."

"Rumor is that Julie Merrill's courting Duke Wright now." "Good luck to her. He's still in love with his wife. And he's not quite as gullible as Jordan." "Jordan wasn't so gullible," he defended his former boss. "When a woman that pretty turns up the heat, most normal men will follow her anywhere."

Recomendo!

4 Country Soapy Stars
I’m coming off of 8 books of an uber violent dystopian series, so I thought some DP fluff would be a great palate cleanser. If you’re not familiar with DP’s books; they’re VERY formulaic, so if you hate one chances are, you’ll hate them all. I lovingly refer to them as wholesome Harlequins. They’re unrealistic and old-fashioned… my guilty pleasure…my literary Ho Hos.

This is one of my favorite scenarios. Completely clueless H that misses the machinations of an insane OW with a h that pushes back until it’s time for HEA. My only complaint (other than Jordan disliking biscuits) is that I found the H a smidge beta, and I prefer clueless broody assholes. A clueless alpha can still be fooled by OW trickery without all the insecurity crap. (He reminded me a bit of Judd Dunn from Lawless)

Libby Collins (24) is having a bad time. Her dad died suddenly from a heart attack. Her step-monster is stealing all their money. She’s crushing on her neighbor Jordan Powell (32) that hardly notices her, and when he does is a grump. Things start to look up when Jordan starts giving her passionate kisses, but then Julie Merrill prances onto the scene and starts mucking it all up. Julie is 26, and those two years make a HUGE difference. She’s also a beautiful socialite that speaks three languages while playing the piano like a pro. She even has a college degree in Political Science. (Libby has a lowly paralegal certificate) …and is a crazy bitch. Jordan is blind, but grouchy Blake Kemp gives her a dressing down.

Bottom Line- All the craziness you expect from DP…black widows, drug dealing, arson, bitch slaps, death by roofie heart attack, chubby secretaries, and hidden fortunes. What we don’t have is roughened chest and sensitive nipple time because these two never get it on. I’d recommend to DP fans, or readers in the mood for a toned-down Dallas-ish read. Random, but does anyone know if Duke Wright got a book?

Reread. H was arrogant and influenced easily by people around him, such as Duke's failure marriage, but never did he think that h was different from Duke's ex-wife. Not to mention what a fool he was to let Julie insulted h in front of so many people or how he always took her side instead of h's. h should let H suffer more time, not to forgive him so soon.

Aku ga pengen jabarin apa ceritanya, hanya disini aku pengen mengatakan :
I HATE JORDAN POWELL!!!!

Too stupid too Life", "douchebag". Walaupun akhirnya dia sadar kesalahannya.

OMG....i had totally forgotten i even had this book on hold....it is exactly like all of her other stories.....just change the names and hair color.....I really like the idea of a nice little town where most people know and take care of eachother....but really? older guy, inexperienced girl....he is rich, she is poor....then throw in people from other stories that i have read and it is an even bigger reminder that all the stories are the SAME!!!! yeah, i know, then why do i even bother.....like i said, it is something about the town...

3 start because its an angsty book by Diana Palmer and honestly when you read her books you kinda know what you're gonna get. An asshole hero that lusts after the evil ow. However he is still kissing the heroine and telling her she will never muster up to his ideal woman. She feels bad and sad and pines afted him the whole book because even though there are a lot of men mentioned in the book the hero is the only one for her.

The book feels like it was written in the 1980s where no one had cellphones or options and being a careerwoman was something bad and to be ashamed of. And the only important thing was to get married and be a housewive. I'm not saying its bad but it felt really dated.

Libby Collins’ father had only been dead a few weeks when her stepmother, Janet, called a real estate agent out to the ranch. Suddenly, Libby and her brother faced the prospect of being homeless as Janet attempted to get her hands on every scrap of money that she could.

Jordan Powell, their next door neighbor, was certainly wealthy enough to help them out, but Libby was too proud to ask for his aid. Libby liked him a lot, but Jordan’s tastes seemed to run more toward experienced women like the beautiful Julie Merrill. Julie was stunning and sophisticated. She moved in the posh circles of the wealthy and famous, but her glittering appearance hid a horde of misdeeds. How could Libby make Jordan see how wrong he was about the woman?

Jordan was proud, stubborn, and handsome as a Texas sunset. Libby couldn’t help but care about him, but she wouldn’t beg for his assistance. If he really liked her, Jordan should be able to see her predicament and offer to help her himself.

Suddenly, things escalated out of control. The drug and criminal elements surrounding Julie Merrill threatened to engulf Jordan as well and an attempted murderer nearly set fire to the Collins’ ranch house. All seemed lost. At the height of her despair, will Jordan finally see the light? When will Jordan at last realize that what he feels for Libby goes way beyond mere neighborly affection?

I really enjoyed the book. I like when the H is a real jerk to the heroine but I also like when he’s regretful and she calls him on his crap.
When I started the other half of the book I was little disappointed. In the first half the H acted like someone blinded by sex with the OW and I was anxious to read how he would dig himself out of it. Then author wants me to believe that he really wanted the heroine and he couldn’t stomach sex with the Ow. There was some explanation that I didn’t buy. It was a stupid excuse that the heroine was ambitious and didn’t know what she wanted in the future.
But I don’t like easy way out and wanted little more heartache and then HEA.
Maybe it’s too much to expect. I guess the author didn’t know how to defend the H if went all the way with the Ow.
The heroine gave up too easy to the traitorous body syndrome and didn’t make him grovel enough. There was some fine moments when she called him on his betrayal but I wanted more. I guess I’m more petty.
Overall this is a better story that many contemporary romances in my opinion.

Cattleman's Pride ~ Diana Palmer 🌟
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kalo dirimu ga suka Judd Dunn di Lawless, Jordan Powell bakalan "dibakar" olehmu. Jordan dan Libby bertetangga. Ayah Libby baru meninggal dan ibu tiri Libby mengancam akan mengambil alih rumah peternakan dan seluruh harta dalam wasiat ayah Libby.
Lalu, Libby meminta bantuan Jordan. Kondisi keuangan Libby ini sangat pas-pasan. Jordan berniat membantu Libby, dan percikan2 asmara mulai mengelilingi 2 sejoli ini.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

😩😩😩 *inilahefekmenumpukbuku 😫

Five stars because I *love* it when the OW is an unhinged mega-bitch from hell. Very typical DP plot, with some election business plodding along in the background.

Kung-fu kicking, ex government assassin, ex cyber crime expert turned small town police chief Cash Grier turns up AGAIN (I think DP is obsessed with this dude as he's featured in so many books now), and there is some talk of Tippy having been kidnapped, and I'm wondering where the frick that story line happened because it sure as hell hasn't been in a Long Tall Texan book, I know because I'm reading them in order. This is a slight gripe of mine, in that other book series cross over with Long Tall Texans and it can be a bit of a puzzle to know where to go to keep up with all these overlapping story lines and characters.

Also hoping Violet gets her own book!

Jordan and Libby
One of my favourite books from Diana Palmer. Libby has been in love with Jordan, her self Billionaire neighbour, for years without hope of ever been reciprocated so she settled for a friendship. However their relationship shifts and they even share a kiss and she dares to hope for a future together. Unfortunately, due to his poor pass and wanting to be recognized by the big wigs of their community, Jordan gets involved with the daughter of a prominent politician and drops Libby while she's going through a tough time. Disappointed and hurt the h keeps going with the support of her brother and community. But betrayal, illegal activities and even attempted murder will through this two together again and lead them to a HEA. Highly recommended

Kind of a cute story but I got the impression that it was an old story revamped. Characters getting their hair frosted, two full-time employed people bringing home less than $800/mo between them, a ranch with an $800/mo mortgage, there were lots of little details that made the story seem much older than 2004.

There was also a ton of repetition. We must have been told 100 times about Duke and his ambitious wife, Janet and the will, Violet going to the gym, etc. And there were huge chunks of time that were glossed over in a paragraph or two even though the things happening seemed kind of essential to the plot.

But despite being strangely and not very well written, it was still a pretty decent story.

I didn't really like this one. I think because we don't really get to know the hero very well IMO.

There's a lot going on here. The heroine's father dies and there's a whole story of whether he was murdered or not.

Then the Hero started dating a senator's daughter but only starts kissing the heroine after he starts dating the senator's daughter. But this love triangle has nothing to do with the father's suspicious death.

There's also another romance brewing between two side characters.

So, the pages that would usually be used to introduce us to the Hero are used on all these other things instead.

Slow-burn tension, strong emotions, and timeless Palmer charm.
Cattleman’s Pride brings together one of Diana Palmer’s most compelling dynamics: a fiercely independent hero guarding his heart, and a heroine who challenges him without even trying.

The story beautifully captures the frustration and vulnerability of two people who feel deeply but speak too little. The misunderstandings push them apart just enough for the reunion to feel powerful.

Palmer’s writing shines in the emotional bits — the quiet glances, the sharp pride, the slow thaw of a hardened cowboy. A heartfelt, classic western romance that hits all the right notes.

I purchased a copy of the steamy Cattleman’s Pride by Diana Palmer, and this review was given freely.
Political corruption and drugs are blended with a murder mystery and a rocky infatuation to love story.
Paralegal Libby and her brother’s lives change drastically when their father suddenly dies, their stepmother tries to sell their ranch, and the wealthy neighboring rancher Jordan Powell flip-flops between hurting her and not being able to keep his hands off her.
