I never really got through this book completely but when I finally got into it, I couldn't put it down! Anyways, Darby is from Los Angelos, California, and her grandfather Jonah, owns a horse farm in Hawaii. She rescued a mustang from Nevada in the winter time, They shipped her to Hawaii to be worked with by Darby. When they set out on a 'bonding' adventure, They encounter so many diffrent things....Including finding a friends lost horse for over two years! The lost horse's name was Tango, the friend was named Megan, and her father Ben who was killed while riding Tango....(He was killed by a wild boar charging Tango) was a horse charmer, sort of like Darby is. A wild boar attacks Darby's camp and scares her mustang Hoku, who later bolts out the gate and drags Darby with her. Darby looses control of Hoku when they finally find Tango running in Black Lava's territory. Black Lava is a very pretty black stallion that runs part of Wild Horse Island. Hoku had trusted Darby so much, That when Darby wakes up from sliding down a hill and rolling into a mud pit, She awakens to find Hoku at the top of the hill looking at her as if asking her "Are you OK?" Hoku was rescued from a man named Shan Stonerow, he was so called 'training' her which in his case meant beating her to work. Hoku is very head-shy now.... Megan and Cade get into a fued over who's fault it was that Ben died in a horse back riding accident, and who's fault it was that Tango was lost in the first place. I can assure you I will be reading this book more than once, espicially when i get the two books before it.

I give this book 3-3.5 stars. It was a sweet story. Wonderful horse facts and vivid imagery. I did feel it was slow paced so my attention was not 100% on the book. But because I love horses I will read this series anyway.

(Okay, so I'm just copy/pasting from my review of the other book...)This was a pretty good book for a junior level book. I preferred the first one to the subsequent ones - I sped-read through the first four, and found that they seemed too short, and could have been combined into one book. Vague sense of dissatisfaction about that. However, it was not written for my age level, and the fact that the books all mesh together so completely speaks well for the author's writing ability.
