Will F. Jenkins is best known these days for his science fiction under his pen-name "Murray Leinster". I love those stories, but he was best known during his life for his Westerns, so I decided I should give them a try - and I'm glad I did. "Dallas" is the story of an unrepentant rebel after the Civil War who goes after a trio of vicious brothers that murdered his family, and ends up (where else?) in Dallas. On his journey he runs across Wild Bill Hickok and then a U.S. Marshal who is appalling bad at his job but willing to learn. And then he finds something better to fight for than revenge. It's great fun, well-told and won't be the last of his Westerns I'll read.
