Howard Vandenburg is a brainy researcher at a Chicago hospital – completely absorbed in his work. When he is sent to London for a medical conference, he manages to miss his connection and lose his passport.
He is rescued at the airport by his nemesis – and the COO of his hospital – Michael Sullivan. Michael brings him back to the hotel. Van is completely floored to learn that Michael has been preparing for this moment and has a plan.
JM Cartwright is the alter ego of a polished professional who works all the time. Well, maybe not all the time... but paying the mortgage and buying dog food keep JM pretty busy.
JM dreams of the Appalachians and someday sitting on the veranda overlooking 100 acres of paradise.
Not instalove, if you allow for a slow windup from a distance, but definitely insta-relationship, and given the elements of rescue going on, almost edging into dub-con, and with the repetitive use of an endearment that started to come across as rather creepy, almost like a Dom who hadn't done proper negotiations with the sub, just -- took over. I understand this was the author's first story, so I'll look at the next one, but if I'm paying money, I don't want it to feel like fan fiction. Chapters for 7000 words of continuous action are unnecessary, and more editorial guidance will probably smooth out such blips.
Oh my! I loved this story and Van—Dr. Howard Vandenburg—even as I chuckled throughout most of it. Van is indeed a quintessential example of an absent-minded, yet highly intelligent character and while I was amused, I could understand his bewilderment and shame. Then everything he thought he knew went out the window!
Lucky for Van that his boss, Michael, has every intention of making sure that this will not be a problem at all. I loved watching as Michael took charge and, indeed, turned Van’s life upside-down…but all for the best of course; the very, very best!
Sweet, fun, sexy and downright awww-inspiring, JM Cartwright’s How Did I Lose My Passport—and Find My Love is a treat not to be missed.
Dr. Vandenburg, Van, is a brilliant cardiologist and total airhead professor type. He's in London for a conference and misses the cruise ship to Denmark, then loses his passport somewhere between checking in the security gate at the airport. Much to his chagrin his boss, is arriving in London and he has to meet him and admit what a loser he is. He's in for a bit of a surprise when he finds out why Michael was on his way to London, and that he has big plans for the two of them. This was a cute story of the typical airhead brainiac and a dominant corporate boss.
Serious overuse of the word "sweetheart" -- once Michael and Van get together, just about every statement Michael makes to Van has him referring to Van as "sweetheart."
Otherwise, the story was short and cute (mostly because Van is cute; Michael is just kind of creepy). It'd be nice to read a follow-up story to see how the two manage as a couple.
2.5 stars. So-so short m/m romance about an absent-minded medical researcher who misplaces his passport while traveling and is surprised when his nemesis, the hospital's COO, turns up to get things sorted out.
