"Just let it go..."Everyone in Granite Falls tells Carrie Randall the same thing. Is it a threat, or a warning? Yet even if it endangers her fresh start, Carrie needs to know what secret the town's hiding. There's her troubled student and his disturbing drawings. His fiercely protective father, and the mysterious death of his mother. And Carrie definitely has to find out more about the bad reputation of her standoffish new landlord, Logan Bradley. She wants to trust him, but she's been fooled by charm before. Is the town wrong about him--or is she?
Roxanne is a USA Today Bestselling, award-winning author of forty romantic suspense, mystery, and heart-warming, emotionally charged relationship novels in the clean & wholesome, as well as inspirational romance genres.
She got her first horse at the tender age of six and grew up riding bareback with wild abandon throughout her small Minnesota town year-round. It was like giving a child car keys!
She showed horses for many years, and later, she and her husband raised quarter horses and thoroughbreds until their kids came along.
She's living her childhood dream, living on an acreage in the country with her husband, three horses (all beloved elderly pasture ornaments, now), a golden retriever, a Mountain Cur rescue, and six fluffy barn cats. It's a much smaller menagerie than when their three kids were still at home!
Ranches, animals, and small-town life frequently find their way into her books.
Thank God for teachers who genuinely care about their students! This is one such teacher, and she has a very troubled student. It has been quite disturbing to move into a small community that seems to hold secrets at every turn. But Carrie Randall cannot abandon her students no matter what it may cost her.
This small town story worked quite well, especially with the attitude many town members had toward Logan. Carrie's passion for her students was believable, but not the reactions of her colleagues and principal.
Finished readig. More of a romance than the thriller I had hoped for along with hints of Christian tones. It was okay but not all that satisfying. Happy for the fictional couples happy ending tho. lol
I really loved this. You had ideas about the killer but thankfully, it kept the secret of who the culprit was without giving it away. The romance part was good for me too. Just an all around great read.
Murder at Granite Falls by Roxanne Rustand was an OK story. Sort of a cozy murder mystery with the focus of the story not on the detective but on the potential murderer. However, I found the sloppy copy editing a bit annoying, especially with references to time and dates. The worse bit was where several scenes are clearly presented in the wrong order. In the novel, these were round where Carrie is put on unpaid leave. Monday morning happens twice in two different scenes back to back. And, there is a scene between Carrie being let go and Carrie arriving back at her apartment that is clearly out of place. I guess no one noticed in writing and editing the novel. Another poorly copy edited scene was the wedding which supposedly occurs at the end of August. This, we are told, is two months and 6 days and some hours after the solving of the murder and the last time Carrie sees Logan. Simple counting on my hands tells me that places the exciting climax around the third week of June. This is nonsense as we know Carrie, Penny and Logan watched the 4th of July fireworks together. And, the solving of the murder seems to have taken place either in the first or second week of July. And, then there is Carrie's gig of teaching summer school beginning in the first week of June. Really? Seems to me summer school is about six week in July and August. Maybe, it's different in Montana? And, art appreciation to fifth graders in a rural school district in the summer? Sounds like a very unlikely teaching gig. Also, we never get an explanation of who siphoned Carrie's gas. And, why? Presumably, it was Billy. But, if it was Billy, then why didn't he confront Carrie much earlier in the story. If Billy saw Munson hanging around the rafting company offices, then Billy knew where Carrie was. Why did he wait so long? Plot hole. And, then there was the afternoon hiking trip up to Dante's first cabin. A trip that apparently started in mid-afternoon but still had seven hours of daylight left for a four or five mile hike checking out caves. Seems way too unrealistic / ambitious to me. If Logan's back is really as bad as he makes out, it's hard to imagine that Carrie and Logan would cover much ground at all. And, why exactly is Logan going to enter the rodeo circuit in mid-July? That is awfully late in the season. OK, while I liked the story, the plot holes were many and time seems to have been warped in Granite Falls, Montana.
Murder at Granite Falls by Roxanne Rustand Carrie Randall has 3 months of living above the rafting company store in Granite Falls, Montana in the Rocky Mountains. Teaching elementary kids crafts during the summer months, then a full time position in the fall-which she hopes to move to the town. She thinks her ex husband, who she's got a restraining order against, is following her. Logan Bradley runs the store during the daylight hours. Logan was recuperating from an accident when bronco riding at the rodeo. He lives up the river a bit. Penny stays in town with her aunt but is usually at the store. Prowlers at night and strange pictures showing up at school make her wonder why is doing it. Logan told her of the woman he had been accused of murdering and whoever it is or their accomplice are still out there. They harm the raft an other equipment, hoping to put them out of business. Things get worse over time and she and Logan are suspects but the cops don't charge them. They take the trails to find out who might be behind everything as the other clues lead to dead ends. Some things start making sense as to who it could possibly be and Carrie leaves to go find out for herself ... Love the scenery and the surroundings and love hearing about the raft company.
Murder at Granite Falls I received this book via goodreads.com, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was grabbed from the very first page, and spent an indulgent weekend sitting in the garden reading it right through. It is one of those books you can't put down. It zips along at a lively pace, which is sustained to the very end. The characters are all believable, and I so wanted things to work out for Carrie and Logan. My heart bled for poor Noah. As for the murderer, I can't in all honesty say I guessed his/her identity, but I did have my suspicions. The "faith" aspect of the book is unobtrusive, and I do not think it would put off any reader. It is just naturally part of the story. "Love, Inspired, Suspense" it says on the front cover, and I think that just about says it all. In addition, judging by the note enclosed with my copy of the book, I think Roxanne Rustand must be a very nice person, and I wish she lived next door to me.
This is just one book in the 'Big Sky Secrets' series. "End Game," also by Roxanne Rustand in this same series was filled with the perfect mix of romantic intrigue, suspicion & suspense - this book was no exception. Main character Carrie moves to the supposedly peaceful & scenic area of Granite Falls after a painful divorce from her husband. She rents an apartment in the hiking/rafting area, it is a beautiful area with sky and trees as far as the eye can see. However, this beautiful area is plagued by tales of violence & murder. The twist? Her landlord (Logan Bradley) is supposedly linked to a violent murder that occurred the year before.
Carrie takes a job as a Summer school teacher, but starts a domino of trouble when she raises questions regarding a troubled students graphic drawings. As a result of her well meaning concern, Carrie puts herself, her student, & Logan in the path of danger.
I related well to Carrie, because, like her, I too would be concerned about a student with such violent drawings & start asking questions. Although the ending came as no surprise, I loved this book. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Rustand's books. Geat job Roxanne.
Carrie Randall is running from her past and hoping for a better life at Granite Falls. The town is hiding a big secret, and her landlord Logan Bradley has a bad reputation and she is afraid to trust him. Blah, blah, etc....etc....As usual, these Love Inspired suspense novels are well written, but lack the real depth and thrills of a mainstream suspense novel. I've read a better suspense novel from another Christian writer and wonder why LI continues to put out these books. When it comes to suspense I'll stick to Davis Bunn, Michelle Sutton and Booker T. Mattison. This is a book I'll never want to read again, and the last suspense LI I will ever read.
The suspense made it hard to put down. I stayed up for the majority of the night to find out what was going to happen between Carrie and Logan. You're supposed to be able to trust law enforcement, but in this instance, even they laid the blame at Logan's feet due to lack of other suspects. Granite Falls sounds like a typical small town where rumors run rampant. I particularly did not like the principal who just needs to retire. Carrie was really concerned about her students and that man shot down her ideas, intuition, and judged her unfairly. I was surprised to discover the identity of the murderer. Logan's quick thinking rescued Carrie and Noah at the last possible minute.
MURDER AT GRANITE FALLS - BIG SKY COUNTRY #4 - (Logan and Garrie)

This is one of the best books I have read in a long time, I didn't have a clue as to who was the bad guy. Most books you can start guessing, this one had me going right up until the end. This is a must read.
This book in the 4th in the series of Big Sky Secrets by Roxanne Rustand. The first three are Final Exposure, Fatal Burn and End Game. After reading Murder at Grante Falls, I want to read the others in this series. Also her other one called Snow Canyon Ranch.
If you do not read another book this year, you must read this one.
An interesting read. The story skipped in some places but it kept me reading. There were places where I had to turn back to see if I missed something. Just to find out the author jumped scenes without any explanation. This is an inspirational romance so no sex or explicit language. I really liked that about it. A few parts required a bit of imagination. It just seemed like the author had to make things go a certain way but some of it was a bit unbelievable. I would recommend this to someone who is looking for an easy read with some suspense and a bit of romance.
Carrie found a job during the summer at a school in Granite Falls. Her ex-husband was following her but was shot to death and it was with her gun! One of her summer school students kept giving her "gruesome" drawings-could he have been a witness to his mother's death and also the ex's? Did these drawings mean anything? Could Carrie, her friend Penny, and her brother Logan solve the murders that the local law enforcement agency couldn't do? This was a quick and easy read!
EXCELLENT writing. Good story and developed characters. Keeps you guessing. I was impressed by this writer! This was the first that I had read of her works. A Young teacher who made a terrible mistake in the choice of her husband. His true ugliness comes out too late and causes her to be afraid of him and what he might do to her or relatives. She divorces and moves away but he pursues her...read the rest and see how vicious some people can be to a divorced mate!
You are supposed to trust Law enforcment but perhaps you shouldn't in Granite falls, not one who feeds Small Town Rumors that lead an innocent man to be persecuted as if he is guilty of a heinous murder. Why would an officer go so far to make an innocent man look guilty? What dark secrets were being hidden?
Carrie Randall has moved to Granite Falls to teach and escape an ex-husband who keeps violating an Order of Protection. Has she gotten herself in more trouble when she hears of the bad reputation of her new landlord or does she believe that he is not capable of the murder that the town believes he committed?
As usual, the person who "done it" is the last person you would expect. However, I was thoroughly disappointed in the lack of character development of the killer, it all felt kind of jumbled in there at the end. While I started out really enjoying the book, the ending left me feeling like I was shorted.
This small town story worked quite well, especially with the attitude many town members had toward Logan. Carrie's passion for her students was believable, but not the reactions of her colleagues and principal.
