I've always been fascinated by the old Victorian homes in San Francisco. I love the architecture of old buildings and I find them artistic. I wish more homes were built this way. It's a lost art for us normal folks who live in apts or homes that are newly built, often built like cookie cutters. The Victorian homes in this book are all different in some way and THAT I love more than anything.
This book is all about how in the 1970's, the owners of these homes painted their homes based on either other home color combinations, or just their own imaginations. Sometimes they were forced to go a certain color combination (which I don't like). I'm all for independence and do not like people telling me I can only paint things or do things a certain way for the neighborhood.
My favorite thing in this book was looking at the photos of these beautiful homes. I realize they have since changed because nothing stays the same. This is a good history book to have for maybe an art project I may do later on or in knowing what colors were from that era if I needed that info.
I'm glad I found this book for sale at my local library. It caught my attention! I love old books AND I love old Victorian homes too!
I really enjoyed this book about the old victorian homes in San Fran and how they are painted. Found this small gem in an Old Victorian in Maine (The Sinclair House) that was painted just peautifully and turned into a B&B.
very nice. great examples. would love to have seen some of the interiors. & it would be nice to see contemporary examples. hope to visit the Bay Area someday...
