Possible sub-title; More than you could ever imagine knowing about otolaryngology.
It's a very comprehensive treatment of everything between your nostrils, mouth, stomach, and lungs. All these parts are closely connected and inter-related, and the author does an excellent job of describing everything that can go wrong with any particular part and how it affects every other part.
It's very detailed and technical, making it slow reading for those of us without medical degrees, but there are no prerequisites, all the material is fully explained. The author focuses on a systems view, emphasizing holistic treatments for the long term rather than fighting symptoms one at a time.
Unless you are an ENT, don't read through the whole book cover-to-cover like I did. Use the quiz in part one to identify the root sources of your problems and focus on understanding and treating your conditions.
From a molecular point of view, the human body is an extremely large and complex system, the immune one being a major subset of that. Singular "maintenance pharmaceutical chemicals" can easily become ineffective depending on the individual. As a non-board certified layman, I can understand to some degree the need for medical specialization "silos." And as well, our rational "Type A" thought processes do very much like categorization and neatness, however incorrect that may be under normal circumstances.
It's nice that such books exist that discuss diagnoses that are outside the vogue of pharmaceutical advertising and drug company balance sheets & income statements using catch words and phrases like COPD.

Since I'm about to undergo surgery with the author of this book, I figured it would behoove me to read it. I had anticipated a rather dry medical read, boring but necessary. It was anything but: rather, information was presented in highly readable, narrative format and served to clarify and unite so many previously confusing and seemingly unrelated symptoms in my medical/respiratory history.
If you have sinus problems, sleep problems, respiratory problems, GERD problems, asthma problems ... get this book. Best $13 you will spend.
Josephson offers a solid explanation of the physiology of your sinuses and clear explanations of common problems that can develop with each part of your sinuses. What I really liked was how thorough this book is. Josephson covers both traditional and alternative methods of treating sinus problems and also covers how interconnected the sinuses are to other parts of the body giving a truly holistic approach to treating sinus issues. I feel better equipped to have an informed discussion with my doctor now.
I'm returning this book to the library and will wait to finish it once the copy I've ordered from Amazon arrives. It isn't a particularly quick read but if you're suffering from any of the conditions Josephson covers in the book, you'll find it invaluable. I intend to highlight the bejeezuz out of my own copy once it arrives. FINALLY, I can talk to my PCP using words she will understand to get my symptoms addressed.
While this would have been a really great book if I had some serious sinus issues going on...I don't feel like my sinuses are all that crazy and the info given to me in this book wasn't really all that new. Though...I didn't make it through the whole thing and just skimmed most of it. It's probable that I missed something life changing.
