Yes, this book has socks, baby booties and slippers, too, and they all appear to be fairly easy knitting. I didn't try any of them however. I found the book to be a bit of a disappointment.
I never caught on to the big sock knitting thing, although I have knit a pair of three. I don't see the joy in limiting yourself to creating the same thing over and over (I know of a yarn store that appears to cater exclusively to sock knitters. How weird.). I love, love, love knitting lace shawls, but they are by no means the only thing I knit.
The main problem with these socks is they all use "thickish" yarn. That doesn't make socks easier to knit, just bulkier, and if you live in the south, unwearable.
Nicely laid out & comprehensive book for knitting socks in a variety of skill levels & techniques including magic loop, which will be my first attempt at sock knitting. This is definitely one for the shelf of all knitters who are wanting to explore the joy of sock making.
The designs in this book are lovely and I'd love to knit quite a few of them. I like how there are patterns for knitting with two needles, double-pointed needles, and the magic loop. However, I don't feel that enough instruction is given on exactly how to go about knitting with the magic loop.
Also, I'm not a huge fan of how the instructions are written out. The steps don't seem exactly clear, and the small pictures of certain steps don't really illuminate the "novice" knitter, which this books is supposedly meant for.
I've never knitted a sock before in my life, though I desperately would like to. I don't think this book is enough to guide me through the first time. Like I said, the socks are very pretty (though I'm not a fan of the two-needle booties in the beginning of the book); so I'd like to go back to this book after I have a few socks under my belt and understand the process.
This book has a useful collection of baseline info in the beginning - materials, cast on methods, stitches, etc. Just that alone makes this a good reference book to have for sock knitting. The selection of patterns is nice as well - booties, long socks, slippers, basic socks. This is a book I will be coming back to!
This book shows some really different sizes of socks and explains how to make them with different methods. Now that I can make socks some of these seem too blocky.
