My favourite of Lietha's books.

This is probably my favourite of all Lietha's books I've just read it again for the, actually I've no idea how many times I've actually read this book, I love it.
Kate Purnell travels from New York after the death of her father, to stay with Tyler and Ellie Purnell her cousins, now Ellie's written to Kate to fill her in on life in Cottonwood and her obsession with Jace King but nothing could have prepared Kate for Everett, it's love at first sight for both of them but this is not just a romance, it's so much more.
I love Lietha's books, I like the strong alpha male and the innocent females that they fall for, I love the stories and read my favourites over and over but I'm under no illusions, these are not brilliantly written, there's mistakes all through and usually the dialogue isn't fantastic and if I'm being honest they're a bit simplistic....I'm sure you could pick holes in them if you wanted to but it doesn't matter I love them, the characters are fabulous and memorable.
Again 3* would be a fair rating for the book itself but I love it and so I'm giving 4*.

Kate and Everett. The story is really two love stories, Kate's and Everett's plus her cousin and Everett's brother Jace. Kate's father dies and so she goes to live with her cousins in California, post civil war and gold rush. She is beautiful but for some reason convenient to the story, she is unaware of this. Everett is the oldest brother on the neighbouring ranch, and not used to vocalizing much of anything. I actually really liked his straight shooter, 'Man of few words' character. I liked his character so much, that it pains me to say the story was ultimately disappointing. It was a nice easy entertaining angst free read, when out of the blue Kate gets kidnapped by some crazy over the top villain. There is more violence (raped women) than I like to read about in romance novellas. But lucky for her Everett to the rescue. Is this the last you see of the dastardly villain? Of course not, like an over-budget Hollywood action movie, he strikes again. The only good line in this part of the book was when Everett asks "Why does everyone want to steal my wife???!" Good question...

The way the book started out it made you think that Ellie was the heroine of the story but just when you start to get comfy it twists and turns out her cousin Kate is the main focus and Ellie is just secondary. Although you get two romances in one book as you see these two ladies capture the hearts of each of their King men side by side it just felt weird to me. I was expecting to read about Ellie only to get her pushed to the side. That just threw me off for the rest of the book and the reason why I can't give it the full 5 stars.

Love the historical cowboys! You get two stories in one in this book, so even better!

We have our main couple of Kate and Everett. She is a shy 18 year old from New York and he is the heir to a large ranch in Texas. Large, bold, bossy and quiet, he is startled by his attraction to Kate. He has quite the reputation, well, he and his two brothers and Kate's cousin, Tyler, do, as men about, but knows Kate is the one you marry not tarry with. So used of having things just fall his way, he is shocked when Kate doesn't read him as everyone else in town does. Luckily his father is there is set him straight and he starts his wooing properly. There is kidnap story weaved in there, but it really didn't add a whole lot to the story for Everett and Kate and seemed to serve the purpose for our other story

Ellie is Tyler's sister and Kate's cousin. She has grown up next door to Everett and his family and has been madly in love with his younger brother Jace for always. Jace is all about fun and he, Everett, and their younger brother Chance, see Ellie as their sister. She is quite the tomboy, helping out on her ranch and wearing pants regularly so she can assist. Jace has started to notice Ellie a bit, but he isn't ready to settle down, and her brother, while his best friend, would not appreciate him dallying with his little sister. On a big night for Everett and Kate, Ellie dresses all out and Jace can't resist, and takes Ellie in the barn. When she protests afterwards, he takes her again. He is now obsessed with her, but still doesn't want to get married. Several of the items in the kidnapping make him see the right way. And he has his father to thank for Everett not coming after him, but he still gets his proper punishment. They are the fun couple, whereas it all serious with Everett and Kate

The story flows nicely, the women aren't stupid or docile, and the men are typical and protective. This was a really good read!

Liked the story but rather than Kate n Everett the chemistry between Jace n Ellie was sizzling n fun. I wished Jace n Ellie had been more focused.
Loved the story of Jace n Ellie only. Kate n Everett was couple next door as in films.

I liked the book but Jace and Ellie's story was best for me than Everett and Kate. Kate didn't do much for me. I wish she had more spunk and fighting skills than being a meek woman especially when she got kidnapped not once but twice.
