For Every woman!

This book is an awesome read for every woman regardless of what season of life you are in right now. There is a wealth of information, revelation and enlightenment from these women of God in this book. There were a lot of aha moments for me as I read. I also loved gleaning from various women and their different aspects of the topics discussed, but they all weaved a beautiful congruent pattern of our journeys here on earth travelling with God and what that looks like in the seasons of our lives. So much wisdom, transparency and keeping it real. You won't regret getting this book.

Have had this book on my shelf for quite some time and picked it up to read after realizing that one of the authors will be the speaker at the His Women Seminar this spring that I plan on attending. Made up of sections of various authors' books, this book talked about the things that keep us stuck and the things that set us free. If you like reading from Angela Thomas, Sheila Walsh, Stormie Omartian, Paula Rinehart, Tammy Maltby, Marilyn Meberg, Lisa Whittle, Jill Hubbard or Jill Briscoe you might enjoy this book!

I enjoyed this book and the viewpoints of the different authors but I feel like it has too many starts and stops and could have flowed better. Still, a great book that is spurring me to change some things in my life in the coming year.

Okay, so, I have mixed feelings about this book. First of all, worst title EVER. It sounds like a corny self-help how-to manual, which is basically the opposite of what this book is about. Marketing fail! (At least it's pretty, which honestly got me to pick it up and read the description, which *then* convinced me to read it.)

On the plus side, it's filled with pretty solid, appropriately convicting/inspiring stuff, all essentially revolving around the gospel and the grace of Christ and all those wonderful beautiful truths that we just get distracted from in the noise and chaos of our lives.

But for some reason, it took me aaaages to get through. Maybe it was the way the chapters were arranged. I liked how they were formatted as an anthology of excerpts, which made it easy to read in quick, short installments, but I didn't really like how the first half had a more negative focus ("The Things That Keep Us Stuck"), with the positive contrasts not happening until the latter half of the book ("The Things That Set Us Free"). For me, it made the whole first half of the book rather depressing, and I was never eager to pick it up.

Having said that, it did get better and all of it was still definitely worth the read. Maybe I was just dealing with a lot of crap at the time, but it seemed like every chapter had something carefully pin-pointed to exactly what I had experienced or precisely the encouragement I needed. I often cried reading it. (Maybe that's another reason it took so long, cuz after awhile I started only reading it in privacy in case I cried again, lol!) These authors don't shy away from addressing some serious questions, doubts, and problems, and if nothing else it's always nice to realize, "Wait, other women experience this feeling, too??" Occasionally the selections got a little overly sentimental for my taste, but as far as I could tell they seemed still theologically sound, so I can't complain too much.

Bottom line: if the anthology format appeals to you rather than one or more of these authors' individual books (the compilation draws mostly from a few of the same ones), then yes I recommend this book. Although hopefully you'll have a bit better discipline while reading it than I did. ;)
