I'm sure that I was expecting the wrong information from this book. Yes, it does present the history of the castle by mentioning which rooms were built when, and by whom, but I also wanted to know more about the historical context in which these changes were made. I was hoping to learn more about the times the castle has been through, and the kings that lived there, but everything is presented very scarcely, moving quickly to present day. I didn't like the text, it was quite boring to follow. But the illustrations were really nice, they helped me remember my visit to the castle. Long story short, it's a nice book to browse, but not an interesting read.

I picked up this book years ago in the gift shop at the castle. It's short and sweet, very high level. It does cover its topic reasonably well in a rapid-fire manner. There are also some beautiful historical illustrations of the castle of yesteryear and beautiful color pictures showing the castle today.

It is highly recommended for fans of English history, royal architecture, castles and keeps, and the like. If you're looking for the best and most beautiful book on this topic, spend more (quite a lot more) and pick up Windsor Castle: A Thousand Years of a Royal Palace by Steven Brindle.

I was hoping for more interior pictures, a sort of memory book of what I had seen. This book gives the entire history of the castle including drawings of some of the rooms that were later changed. A little dry for my tastes, but I'm glad I powered through it nonetheless.

Good history, great pictures. Wasn't quite what I wanted but was great for a general overview.
