A year has passed since puppy raiser Diego handed Aloha’s harness over to her blind partner Kimberly Louise. Now Diego is traveling to Georgia to visit his beloved friend again! This heartwarming story follows the exciting cross-country adventures and moving scenarios of a diverse group of family and friends. Although Aloha is a central figure in this intriguing story, she shares the stage with human actors who make this more than a tale about a blind woman and her guide dog. Learning from the devoted Aloha’s example, they discover they are capable of weathering any storm and triumphing over every setback. _________________________________________________ “From the opening chapter where Aloha rescues Kimberly Louise from the wheels of an unseen car, through the consequences of a horrific storm and finally to the riveting last chapter, we identified with the unfolding relationship forged between a blind person and canine partner. We thrilled as teenager Diego evolved from Aloha's puppy raiser to Miss Kimberly Louise's friend and eventually to hero. With more than 65 years of guide dog partnership between us, we reveled in Kimberly Louise’s joy in meeting Aloha, and their evolution as a team. This novel continues the story of Aloha, a yello Lab guide do trained by Guide Dogs for the Blind. She's now living and working with her new partner, Kimberly Louise, on an island off the coast of Georgia. The team has been together almost a year, and Aloha's puppy raiser, Diego, comes for a summer visit. The book nicely captures the bond and working relationship between a guide dog and the blind person who is partnered with them. At times, the plot felt a little overwrought, as if the author had to put as much excitement and danger in as possible. This probably makes for good fiction, but it sometimes felt like there was too much to be believable. Aside from that minor quibble, though, this book is recommended for anyone who wanted to know how things turned out after meetin Aloha for the first time in "Hello, Goodbye, I Love You".
"Aloha Crossing" is a nice follow-up novel to "Hello, Goodbye, I Love You." Once you meet Aloha in the first book, you want to continue to follow along with the guide dog's life. This story shares the impact Aloha has on the lives of Diego, the boy who trained her, and Kimberly Louise, the blind woman who counts on the dog for independence and companionship. The book also serves as a guide for understanding the challenges blind people face and offers an example of how to overcome some of life's unexpected difficulties.
